I've been knitting socks for over a decade. My stash has grown to well, a lot. My home is in drab browns and other very neutral colors and I'm a conservative dresser who doesn't wear jewelry or colorful makeup (think totally coastal grandmother aesthetics). My socks tend to be bursts of color peeping from under my tea dyed linen pants. For some reason, the more colorful, bright, un-matching, fraternal not identical socks the better. Thank you for your videos.
One good way to ensure you don't regret hand-dyed in a garment is to just alternate skeins for only about six-eight rows when you transition from the first skein to the second. I find this an acceptable compromise that keeps any small difference between the skeins from becoming a big colorblock effect to the eye, but it's not the commitment that alternating throughout would be.
I'm in a sock club this year, so that has been fun. I don't plan to buy any more sock yarn, but if I come across someone trying to get rid of scraps....then I'm there. Have a scrappy blanket going, and that is a long term project.
Valid comments re: the wearability of variegated and colorful socks. But I like them because they are pops of color or pizzazz (sp?) that I can wear with basics. As I wear a lot of neutrals (skirts, shirts, pants), wearing those colorful socks makes me happy. Same with shawls. I like to knit colorful ones because they jazz up outfits that otherwise are rather bland. (And I aspire to an amount of sock yarn like you have. I was just organizing mine and I have well over fifty skeins of it. But it makes me happy, so it's okay! I, too, usually have at least one pair of socks on the go... but more often a couple of sock WIPs.)
Wow, 50+ skeins! But you're so right - if it makes you happy, we're all about it! I'm not here to stash-shame anyone ❤️❤️ I bet you have an AMAZING collection of handknit socks 😍
@@balancedskein I do 😊 And I gift knit quite a lot so it's nice to have my own "store" to shop when I am searching for yarns for projects. The pantry might be too full (for some people), but it means I'm never at a loss for something to knit with that I really love 👍🏾
No self striping to work??? KENDRA?! Are you kidding me? 😱😳 But in the end it only makes sense to knit stuff you will actually wear, without feeling conscious or uncomfortable. Love that for you! 😅😘
I feel a little sad for your striped socks that are rarely worn. 😢 I like to wear mine inside boots during fall/winter, like a fun little stripey secret just for me. When you buy destash, how much do you worry about moths? What precautions do you take when you bring destash into your home?

@@dw9463 wooo! I love a good sock pop of color. I completely relate to this

I totally do the same thing! "Oh, actually that category of yarn isn't so big as I thought." *6 months later* "Wow, that escalated quickly..."
I loved seeing and hearing your plans for your stash.

You can always faded into the second skein so if there are any differences it will be subtle.

Hahaha! I'll revise that statement and say I'm open to more neutral self striping options 😅
You could alternate skeins only a few rows before adding a new one it does not have to be all the way

Oh yes! Good point because I do wear all of my socks in winter beneath boots, including the striped one 😉
It’s always fun to have a peek at a stash! BTW, can you tell me what website you use to buy/sell stash yarn?
Hi! It's a paid membership based group: lauraallyson.party
My sock stash is “generous.” 😂. But I love it. 🧶☺️🤷🏽♀️
What destash sources did you find yarn? I often look for specific yarns on Ravelry but I find unusual buys through a Facebook destash group.
Everything I purchased was from this paid group I'm a part of : lauraallyson.party
What is the name of the top you are wearing.? I really like it.
