The challenge is when in Moscow enjoy follow the Moscovites we in the West are served up far too much bullshit about other countries quality of life. A lot of people are considering Russia as one of the best and safest tourist destinations in the world not only value but the history is enormous and there hospitality is unique, Go Russia.

you forgot to mention medicine! it's pretty darn cheap compared to England. many foreigners come to Moscow for treatment and there are even clinics where doctors treat only foreigners. even Russian emigrants come from the usa for treatment - it's cheaper to take plane tickets than a few dentist appointments in the usa. if we talk about more serious operations, the difference in price is enormous!!

thing is a city with a good subway system like moscow when you look for a appartment "downtown" you should include places that are not downtown but close to a subway station. if you walk down the street and are at the metro you have more access to the city then if you're closer to downtown but far from a subway

@Delilah Faye MUA Ofc domestic violence is a crime in Russia. What you have read is just the example of how Western msms twist and exaggerate things. Several years ago the Russian government just change the penalty for a first report of a small family squabble from jail to administrative arrest and fine (in case no one needed a medical help). Thats all that happened and everything else was just made up by American and European newspapers as usual.

I can write you a comment from an American. The distorted view of the west being better is held by a lot of young Russians who would never believe they have a better life than the majority of people in say, the US. They see movies where no one works but the whole movie is about exciting life with money being no problem. The reality is very different.. All the women I know who moved from Russia to the US are unhappy but trapped, only one remained married the rest are struggling like everyone else. The cost of living is so much lower and the need for extra cost services is absent, that they wish they had learned more about real life instead of movies before they moved.
I live in Russia and as an American, know both countries well. It is easier to be happy with friends, free time, culture, lack of debt, lack of strife and have a good secure life right now in Russia than in the US unless one is very wealthy. With the free higher education, medical care, usually free housing, long paid vacations and holidays, low cost of living, not needing a car, having safe streets and parks, more services for children, right now it is much better living in Russia. I know several women who moved back after their difficult divorces but they are still in debt from living in the US for a few years. Young people in Russia assume that all the features and advantages they have are the norm and assume any place they go will have even better services and better access to culture and more money but it does not work that way. When everything taken for granted as a norm in Russia, is absent when they move those higher incomes(if in a high demand technology field) they find out quickly that everything and more of what they can earn goes to cover basic cost of living leaving nothing for travel, clothes, recreation, and the utter absence of culture depressed a lot of women who lived in cities of Russia before moving to the west. I chatted with a friend who moved 13 years ago to the US. She had a nice modest life in St Petersburg before deciding to move to the US because her son would have more opportunities. She ignored my warnings when she found a man from Nevada who was obvious far below her in culture and education, or even basic manners. She went for her son's sake but the man treated her and her son badly, and turned out to be in serious debt and living off his eldery father. They divorced 3 years later and left her poor in a small city. She worked hard and increased her income and put her son through college and now dreams of being able to see a real museum or play, or the opera she always loved but could never see one in the US. I keep encouraging her to move back to St Petersburg where she had an apartment free and clear, vast cultural options, free time and savings. She is in her 40s and still very attractive so would have a better social life also.
I know I made 20 times as much income in my own business when I was in California in he upper 5% of income and still worked too much and paid too many bills to have much left over at the end of the month, but here, I have much smaller income from my own businesses and have a much more fun and social life that would just not be possible in the US People compare dollars when they should be comparing hours worked to cover expenses. I have 10 times the social time and 100 times the cultural time of fine arts, opera, ballet, dance clubs, dining out, hanging out making new friends in pubs, museums, starting new businesses et, and living with little or no stress, easier access to medical care, easier to meet people worth knowing and can't imaging returning to the stress and anger on the streets in the US.

Thinking of moving for a year or so just so that i can learn the language (studied a bit online but I’d need to be there everyday to fully adopt the lingo), work remotely at the moment cause of COVID so i could still (brexit pending) work and get paid by my civil service job.
Only thing stopping me is finding a nice apartment as they seem to be fairly small compared to London even

Sounds very exciting 😆 regarding housing I think it’s much better here compared to London. When I was living in London I was paying £750 for 1 bedroom (shared apartment) but here we’re paying around £500 for the whole apartment (1 large bed, living room with sofa bed, kitchen, literally everything we could need). I have 2 videos dedicated to our Moscow apartment, so feel free to check those out on my channel to have a look :)
