      @corey Babcock I agree 100%. That should of been tested by the repair guy after putting the wires back together and before them leaving the shop. A rookie mistake for sure. Worse yet to cross thread the water hoses and just leave it like that without testing is totally incompetent. I hope the repairs they cannot see hold together but I would be very skeptical. What parts did they have to wait weeks for? Some sheet metal and square tubing!

      Here's another tip. We took our 2017 Solitude in for the recall on the microwave/convection oven. Grand Design is having service centers put a metal plate behind them because apparently heat from the convection oven can discolor the wall behind it. ANYWAY...the tip is to always make sure the service center LATCHES the outside vents back in place...ours flew off onto the freeway because they didn't AND they don't make the black shiny ones like ours has anymore....so we won't have matching vents unless we replace both and the new ones aren't as nice looking :-(

      oh man, i got a good one !. brand new 2021, 18rd, sunlite classic. the day i went to inspect it WHILE SITTING ON THE DEALERS LOT !, i pointed out, that the rear steps ( rear door entry ), was mounted wrong, and not allowing the door to close/seal at the very bottom ?. the sales man says to me, '' oh..its because the trailer is not level ''. uh huh..so i say..ok..fine ( dumb move..i know ! ). i get home with it a few days later, level camper, WITH A 4 FT LEVEL MIND YOU !. side to side, front to back. all level. open rear door, fold down the MorRyde steps, right off the bat, same problem. i make a phone call to the dealership ( 1 1/2 drive away from me ), explain to him, same problem with rear door and steps, he tells me to take some pics, send them to him, and factory. i did, i get an email back from the factory, they say '' MAKE SURE THE TRAILER IS ALL LEVEL '' ?..WHAT THE HECK !!. ( i sent maybe 20 pics to them, detailing what the problem was, and how to solve this ).
      Couple days later, the factory tells me to take it to the warranty repair all the way back up near where i bought the camper ( yep..you know...the place is 1 1/2 drive one way ! ), i get there, explain to them, here is how you fix this, the fold down steps DO NOT have the correct bends that comes over the thresh hold, and the steps are hitting the rear bumper edge once folded down, and not pressed against the outside of the thresh hold at the bottom. they take notes, 2 weeks later, they call me, say come pick my camper up, its fixed. i make ANOTHER drive back up there, and what do i see ?, THEY SHIMMED THE DOOR FRAME OUT OFF THE CAMPER BODY, ABOUT TWO TUBES OF CALKING TO FILL THE FRAME GAP !!..OMG...I WAS MAD !!. i go inside, soon as i walk in, they ask me how do i like it ?..lmao. oh i went off on them, i said..its not fixed, you need to get the salesman over here...RIGHT NOW !.
      He shows up, stands there in front of me, TRYING to tell me, its fixed, when i can still see that the door wont close, and seal correctly ?!. now i start to get a tad mad, finally i just say ok, time for me to hire a lawyer. i get home, very first thing i do is go on google review page, and lay it all out ( pretty much like i am doing here..lol ) next thing i know, the salesman is calling me ( with his number blocked at that !..lol ) telling me he is going to sue me for posting lies about the google review ?, I SAID...BRING IT BIG BOY..I'LL OWN YOUR ARSE ( a nice word there ), and the factory as well !, real quick like, he changed his tune to me..lol. HE KNEW WHAT I POSTED WAS THE WHOLE TRUTH, NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH !. i did finally fix the steps, all it took was putting a different brand of steps on my camper, yes, it was at my cost, THERE WAS NO WAY IN HECK WAS I GOING TO DRIVE BACK UP THERE, AND TRY TO GET THEM TO COVER THE COST...EVER !.
      So, BEFORE YOU LEAVE ANY REPAIR SHOP ?..MAKE 100% SURE EVERYTHING WORKS THE WAY IT SHOULD ?..OR YOU WILL GET TAKEN FOR A RIDE !.

    Pretrip upon picking up from a shop is a lesson we learned also.
    We picked up our motorhome after being in the shop for a couple of days.
    We got to our campsite. Hooked up and then needed to visit one of our two bathrooms.
    I went in the back one and told my husband, "hey thanks for leaving that little gift behind in the toilet... I'll flush it for you." He said he didn't do that.
    We both realized that the shop used it. So from now on we will tape our toilets shut.

    They know you are a "famous LizAmazing UA-cam Channel", so they showed you much respect. I hesitate to think how they would treat a "regular customer" that doesn't have 38,000 subscribers. It goes to show the lack of professional checkup on repair work in this industry. Thankful they listened and did complete it. [PS - I'm the guy with the slide out story, and the awning that flipped in Wyoming!]. Happy Camping!

    We were lucky. When we clipped the back of our camper, the repair shop fixed it better than new. Of course we only did $1100 dollars of damage. That was 4 years ago and no new issues with the repair. Since you recently damaged your roof and the rear corner of your rig your might want to get a tractor trailer driver to give you some lessons.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  3 роки тому

      OK so check out those videos you mentioned. The roof scrape with something where we saw the tree and didn't realize that it was sharp enough to cut the roof. We figured we would just brush by the branches. Sometimes I think people look at our headlines and don't actually watch the videos. Sounds like you had a similar situation with tail swing, glad that it was only $1100 worth of damage. Stay safe out there!

    Glad you're back in your rig and it's fixed. We got ours back last Thursday. Total repairs so far in our 2021 ceder creek 371fl: half bath sink faucet replaced, rtv radio and dvd unit replaced with wires going to left speaker fixed as it was wired wrong, front drivers ground Jack replaced, front black tank flush fixed because the backflow valve was installed backwards originally, dinette slide adjusted, vent fan in kitchen lift motor fixed.
    Mater bath toilet bubbles up gases, they couldn't figure out what was wrong as it didnt do it there and stopped for a bit once we got it back so figured it was a clog that got dislodged while traveling but now it's doing it again.

    When we purchased our big bunk semi, we spent 3 weeks driving around from state to state getting her ready for work. From lettering, to computer systems we need for work, custom seats put in, all sorts of stuff. (Of course, one just can't get all the work done at one place, that would be too easy). This entire time we had beautiful weather. Once finished the truck, we head home so we can get our trailer and resume work. The morning we wake up just 200 miles from home, it was raining, outside AND inside. YUP, major leak in the roof. OMG!! So, turn around and head 550 miles to the builders and have it looked at. Something in the roof caulking was not completed correctly. It sure is now!! Just glad we weren't back to work and try to get back there for a look.

    Those are great tips! We've experienced many trips to the repair shop in the less than two years we have owned our Class A. Some were bigger issues than others, we used at 3 service shops for different issues. The first was the dealership shop where we bought the RV. Second was the service shop that originally installed our solar. The third was a national chain we needed to use when we were on a trip. They all made mistakes and mostly they try to fix them as best they can. We have been blessed with good service, not perfect but willing to re-do or revisit the problems. All of your tips rang true with us from our experiences.

    I must say I am impressed with Blue Dog RV. We helped our grandson buy a 5th wheel, in fact it was just like your previous one, from BD. They allowed him to keep it in the lot for two months until the financing was done and he could find a full time place to live in it. So glad you can be back on the road. If you come through central Oregon come out to Camp Sherman RV park and say hi. We could probably find you a spot if it isn’t a weekend, or after Labor Day weekend.

    Great upgrade to an in-house washer and dryer unit you are going to love it. When we were first married we were able to purchase our home but unable to get a washer and dryer immediately. It was kind of a date night as a young couple with limited resources to travel to the coin op laundromat. However it aged very quickly and was super excited to get our in house units asap. Little disappointed your repair shop needed that last 1/2 day it seems to trial and verify there workmanship.

    I don't have an epic travel trailer stories. Almost all of the minor repairs needed over 12 years, I did myself. Just a couple of trips to the dealer. One comment though, new trucks (as I am sure you know) have fuses for everything. I had an instance where my trailer lights were not working. Turned out to be the fuse in the truck. Always something to learn. Take care.

    Very informative video. Being a minimalist myself (lived in a sailboat, semi truck sleeper, converted utility shell, converted 6'x12' cargo trailer, small home in the Philippines), I like the freedom of a small easily managed rig that can go anywhere. You explain everything so well. In our motorhome, the hitch was high compared to our explorer so the dealership put a 5,000 lb rated step down receiver to put the hitch at the right height. We were headed south from Sarasota to the Keys. As we were crossing a bridge in Port Charles I noticed our towed car going right and left. The step down receiver had sheered in half leaving only the safety chains connected to our car. Luckily the bridge was 3 lanes in each direction so we straddled two lanes. The slight grade slowed us down and on the other side of the bridge was another grade and on the shoulder was the deepest cut shoulder warning that I'd ever scene. Working the two together enable us to stop without causing significant damage to the car or motorhome. Port Charles RV had one step down receiver left which was solid and had a 10k lbs rating which I bought in a heartbeat. We made it down to the Keys, stayed the month of February, at $3,000 a month lot fee and had a great time.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  Рік тому

      Oh my goodness, how scary. Wow, sounds like you handled it right or else it could have been tragic. Glad you still got to go to the Keys. How fabulous! Thanks for watching and see you in the next video!

    I don't know if you guys enjoy a cocktail but after hearing and watching what you went through I had one for you just in case you don't. My 2018 Coachmen Freedom Express microwave halfway fell out of its brackets on my second camping trip with it to Cherrystone Campground in Virginia. The RV place I bought it from told me to wait till the end of the season when everything else goes bad and bring it in so they can fix it then. Needless to say I had to fix it myself. There were other things that went on it that I had to bring it to the shop for. I'm happy to hear that you had somewhat of a better experience getting your camper fix. But I did what you guys are doing I let other people know how I was treated at that RV place

    Good tip to stay nearby. We too just picked our coach up after 6 weeks in the shop and had a TPMS system installed. We left the area on a Saturday and found it was wired wrong and not working. Just purchased my 26' RV. Moved my RV to park on a Saturday. (Monday) Everything sat up, level front to back & top to bottom. That afternoon the wall next to pull out & bedroom,by window pulled apart. Approximately 3 1/2 feet long. The following week another wall pulled apart. Only about 8". I went to dealer, thru their shop, also thur jayco. So far they have left me hanging. I will be able to take to shop in September.

    • @LizAmazing
      @LizAmazing  2 роки тому

      Oh no. So sorry this happened. Try to find the Jayco page on Facebook, Twitter, etc and tell your story. Don't be rude or point fingers. Just tell your story. They most likely will accelerate your claim and take care of you as soon as possible. Good luck.

  • @ceciliapetrowsky2572
    @ceciliapetrowsky2572 3 роки тому +1

    Looks great! Considering how much damage there was, it amazes me that they could rebuild that without putting in a whole wall. I’m happy you guys are finally on the road again. Liz, make sure you get out and spot Paul at those scary gas stations.

    • @LizAmazing

      Absolutely! That is the plan. The copilot gets out. Before the accident I was doing 1/3 of the driving, after the accident 1/2 of the driving. I think we are even going to bump that up so I do a little more than that. Just trying to keep the pressure off of Paul.

    Glad your all put back together now.
    Paul, it would be smart to go pick up a couple of shut off levers and in stall them in your front garage bay, the passenger door side bay, look up at the ceiling in that bay you’ll see the washer lines run right there. Thats were we put ours. Cheers 🍻

    As usual...your presentation had a new RV tidbit to put in the file for how to deal with new equipment does and don'ts. Washers and driers are still not totally common in an RV and the Drain Pipe Sleeve requirement will sure help the RV public avoid a fountain experience. Our brand new travel trailer refrigerator didn't work on shore power for months. We finally took the outside cover off to find that it was never plugged into the receptacle. The jack knife bed only had 2 drywall screws (bent) holding it in place. So many other things wrong. Thankfully nothing too serious. Good luck to you both!

    Our first camper we bought for a good price because we knew we would be taking the entire back off and fixing it. The previous owner had offered to help but didn't have the ability on his own. True to his word he came and helped my husband fix it. When we would up selling it later years on, the people who bought it were not planning on spending the amount of money we were asking originally, but saw how wonderful it was kept up and didn't even haggle. Our current camper got a leak in the slide and my husband again fixed it up gorgeous and installed a slide topper it hadn't had before. He is extremely meticulous. He is very talented, an auto body tech by trade.

    Looking forward to your washer/dryer review. We have used our Splendide 7100XC combo unit regularly for 4 years and would not RV without one. It's the ventless model which appears to attract a lot of harsh criticism by many, but I think overall these type of machines get a bad rap. I will say our dryer can be temperamental. Error codes will appear if lint, hair, or other debris clog up the system; but dealing with these issues is not difficult.

    I truly appreciate your openness and honesty re: the costs incurred with this repair, insurance, etc. There are other UA-cam channels out there that are making RV videos, that for some reason do not want to keep things real by disclosing costs....”They took good care of us”. We have had our RV 9 yrs. The first trip we took was just a short weekend trip to the mountains. We stopped to get gas on our way home. We pulled into a gas station with a small truck stop off to the side. I told hubby to pull into the center lanes, but he wanted to do the outer lane. One thing about his driving, he always cuts corners. So he pull in from the hwy and went right to the outside lane and made what I call the lazy turn to the left and realized that he hadn't pulled up far enough before he turned into the gas lane. Well, he was close to the concrete horseshoe shaped barrier they had at the end of the island. he tried to back up and correct his turn but everything he did he got closer & closer to the barrier. I finally told him to go get a truck driver and maybe they could help him get out. They guy told us it was going to scrape but he guided us thru so we only did damage to one panel on the RV. It wasn't a storage compartment and there was nothing behind it. So, that panel was $2500.00 to replace. The first place we took it, because it was closer to the house, tried say there was structural damage to the frame, which we didn't see. So we took it back to where we bought it and there was no damage to the frame. After driving 30 mins or so after her scraped up the side of our brand new RV, hubby said, I should have listened to you and gone to the middle lanes. I almost fell on the floor. He has never admitted in out 30+ yrs of marriage that I was right. My daddy taught me a lot of mechanical, electrical and automotive skills. His dad didn't spend much time teaching any of the 6 kids much of anything. I never understood why he never listened when I tried to explain something to him. He didn't want an explanation, he just wanted me to do it. LOL Now, with his eyesight, he can't see the small things well enough, so I do it.
    I am so glad your rig is fixed and you can get back on the road! I miss your travels! You are near where our oldest son lives. I'd love to spent a summer RVing the Oregon coast! HUGS~Donna
