Flown with Emirates A340 business class back in 2007 from Dubai to Hamburg. It was a great experience. They didn't serve Champagne back then. It was a great flight. Thanks for sharing the video it walked me through the memories I had with the A340.
I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and visited that past year and got to say i love the country and the media percieves people in thinking that no place in the country is beautiful but i think very opposite i love it!
Afghanistan has so much culture, history and heritage but the problem is the war. It means you can only visit a couple of places in Kabul and that is all, also there are no professional tour guides, who have done their research and can take you around the city or country. I'm Afghan and i get shocked at how rich Afghanistan's culture and heritage is, many musical instruments used in the west and India are off Afghan origin, Herat in western Afghanistan was the centre of calligraphy, literature, poetry, and architecture. Its home of Rumi, one of the greatest poets that ever lived and Turkey is helping Afghanistan rebuild his house in Mazar e Sharif ( Northern Afghanistan). Its home of the worlds first Monistic religion and home of the worlds first oil paintings. According to research by goldsmith university of London and university of Barcelona, the Guitar is based on the Afghan Rubab. Its multicultural and before the war European designers would come to kabul to learn from Afghan designers and copy Afghan designs, most people see the Burka but Afghan clothes are probably the most beautiful clothes you have ever come across and are even selling in high-end shops in London, Paris, Dubai thanks to Afghan designers.
*Wait a minute... who said we don't have culture, history, and heritage? This country exists for thousands of years and has one of the oldest culture and history. From budhism to Islam and Hinduism, everything existed and exists in Afghanistan. Kabul is a new city but please visit Ghazni, Kandahar, Herat, and other places where you will find history and heritage. Yes the war has destroyed our land and we are being in war for hundreds of years. From alexander to Genghis and British, everyone wanted to capture this land but almost all were defeated. Yes you don't see any tour guides etc because of the security reasons. In Shaa Allah in future you will see the bright Afghanistan where people will come from all around the world for holidays. Let's pray the 32+ countries exit our land and leave us in peace. And may our neighboring countries either vanish or get to know that Afghanistan belongs to Afghans and anyone who tries to own this country will vanish. Afghanistan the graveyard of empires*
When i see this video , I am feeling very happy , Because Afghanistan is my Homeland I will Never forget My beloved homeland Afghanistan , Thank you very much , and Welcome to Afghanistan, welcome again and again ,
Flamesforcup 123 If it is survival, don't say it's a beloved place for you. If the place I lived was a dangerous life threatening place, it would be very hard for me to call it "beloved". Again, less hipocrisy.
+gbriank1 its a major euro-asia air route. Over 1500 flights daily use the Afghan Airspace to connect the west to the east. Also increasing numbers of airlines are flying to Afghanistan itself like Emirates, fly Dubai, Turkish Airlines, Iran Asaman, PIA, Air India, as well as the Afghan Airlines. The problem is the risk of Taliban attacks on the airport itself, which is why they do not stay in Afghan airports for long. However once they are on Afghan airspace they are safe, the Taliban can not reach that high and i dont think they would even attack a passenger plane.
GermanSpottingHD in the mid 2000’s the A345 was the workhorse of the Emirates fleet, they flew to JFK, MEL and SYD, which are all operated now by 777’s or A380’s
Your videos are so sleek and unique, you have a massive passion for creating travel films which me and surely a lot of other people love, Thank You Andy.
+AscendSounds that is the nicest comment i thin anyone has ever left for one of my videos - thanks very much for watching !!! Good news is there's much more to come in the next 3 months with Emirates in First class to Brazil, Argentina, South Africa and Thailand:) Andy
I bet you really have a nice flight with that A340-500 ! I miss that plane, last time I took an A340-600 of Qatar,, Sadly, they will be no longer in service just like you comment.. Enjoy flying mate!
I thoroughly enjoyed it Andy - thank you for this very beautiful journey you have put together and shared here on the A345. Take good care and safe flights, D
maria cornwallis My question also..and how Emirates dare operate into Kabul its a mystery for me..the whole city is unsecure at best..who will insure the aircraft??
Ershad Tamim Well..look at bombings and shoot outs..an international airline must insure its aircrafts..thats why most international carriers didn t fly into Beirut during the civil war 1975 to 1990.
What a wonderful 5 star trip report of an exceptional journey:) Perfect camera, perfect choice of music. Magic images flying over the great Hindukush. This was one of my regular journeys 2001-2006. I was always dreaming..maybe..one day..Emirates:) Instead it was a 38 year old DC9 with a South African crew. I always nervously looked down at landing whether a missile was approaching. You had a wonderful, cooperative crew on this flight..not all of them are like this. I once almost got kicked out by a nasty eastern european sfs at midflight for filming an empty cabin:) I liked the "room with a view":) And I share your enthusiasm for the A350..maybe THE most beautiful civil aircraft ever built! I would have never advised for the Biryani..dry like the Gobi:) Oh yes: thank you very much for the nice shout out:) Hope not to see you next time with my yellow band meter like on my last video:)) Be careful in Afganistan!
Well Homer thank you for the kind review, that's 2/2 for me now 😀. Yes you certainly had a more adventurous entry into Afghanistan whereas mine was just luxury! Agree about the biriyani it was a little dry. And I should've had some wine too but I was already getting a little tipsy and didn't want to be drunk when I arrived obviously! Thanks again and I'm glad you saw your shoutout from 29,000 feet above the HinduKush!
@wecanfly777 for me it is a toss-up between four places: 1-Bay of Kotor, Montenegro; 2-The Cook Islands; 3-Fregate Island, Seychelles; and lastly, 4-Cano Cristales, Colombia :)
Awesome video coverage of the aircraft. A340-500 and 747-400 are two the most gorgeous aircraft to ever graze the skies. I will miss both of these models greatly. It's sad that A345 has been taken off service and retired rather quickly in favor twins. I wish the A345 gets a second life, if ever, with Mahan Air.
+Emmanuel Van Dessel the A345 had a slightly shorter fuselage and had a longer range. However, these ultra long range flights aren't as popular and profitable for airlines. Fuel prices were high at that time and A345 isn't as fuel efficient as twin wide bodies like Boeing's 777 and 787. ETOPS rating for twin wide bodies improved a lot now, so quad jets gradually fell out of favor. A350 will be taking over the mantle for the flights flown by A340 and even 747 in the future.
I wish EK flew the A345 to long haul secondary destinations, possibly like EWR, MIA, ATL, and YVR. In Australia, ADL, OOL. I know it is fuel-guzzeling but for secondary "startup" routes the A345 could have worked very well until a larger aeroplane became ready or there was demand for a 777. Unfortunately, they only flew it on short hall flights as long as I recall (maybe they did long-haul a long time back?). I know it is the A340-553, and the A340-556 has longer range (due to more powerful engines and increased fuel capacity), but the -553 should be able to make it from DXB to eastern Australia or USA without severe weight restrictions, if none at all.
Waaa why do they have to retire the A340 and A330 they were such beautiful planes. I actually used to fly on the A340 even though they had only 4!!!!! In their fleet.
Is not all about Tourism and make thinks nice and tidy because of Tourist .I like or better I love place without masstourism . is horrible it makes everything expensive ,people become greedy we are greedy already enough ,stay way tourist and let people live there live and if you go there you blend in or stay out simple as .
@wecanfly777 oh my, there are zillions of places to go to hmm ... you could always fly to Toronto, Ontario Canada and tour the city and then rent a car and drive up to the Muskoka area north of Toronto in the summer where there are endless things to do like hiking, biking, canoeing, golfing, zip-lines & aerial park, spa, shops, festivals & events, great food and endless sites to see, etc ... Muskoka was chosen by the National Geographic Traveler as a #1 pick for the ten best trips of summer! man, that makes me want to go now too lol :)
outstanding video on a rare tip to Kabul Afghanistan would also recommend a video into N/S Viet Nam if you can pull it off...have 14 classmates that gave their lives there i could see the country side where they perished...
Said Ahmad Jalil Hashimi If it was about money, I'd have stayed in Dubai! Expensive plane or flight? All commercial planes are expensive, but this flight wasn't. Why Kabul ? Why not !
Kabul is a place to be, generally Afghanistan is very beautiful and with an old culture and history! Please forget these bombs etc. otherwise USA is also dangerous because everyone can hold a gun at home , so please think before you judge.
hope and would love to see your reviews on flights/cities like Asmara/Eritrea and Mogadishu/Somalia. TurkishAirlines flies both.* Your Kabul city scenes/sounds video was one of the few online. great source to see the local daily life and what to expect before going such secluded areas. *though Mogadishu flights are on hold since the failed bomb attack on a local airline (which later revealed that was targeted Turkish and bomb-in-laptop was handed over to suicide bomber by airport security guards in transit area.) I really hope they got control of security and retain flights there.
+M.Hamza Aslan very interesting. when I went there i didn't really film much like I do these days. It was a long time ago! But I would like to revisit for sure :) Andy
I have the gemeni jets version of a6-ere but today there is children that came to my house they found the plane that is on display and take it and damaged it the broken part is nose gear the rear wheel on the right gear and left stabilizer and the stabilizer have already came off before but I fixed it by glue it.
What a excellent video...I shall inform Homer of his shout out via Whatsapp. Was it easy getting into Afghanistan? What about hotels? Homer and I have a German friend who went to Kabul last year and he had a armed escort....he was working over there...I'm sure he stayed in army base.
Thanks mate! Getting in, first I had to pay a bribe just for the visa but once inside Kabul I let my driver and guide take me around. I chose not to get the armed escort. I stayed in a compound by the Iraqi Embassy of all places 😉 and my next upload will be sights and sounds from Kabul including the EK A340-300 taking off with nice views of the city. Thanks again !
wecanfly777 Wow...awesome, you are bringing travelling to a whole new level...they say there is a prison in South America where you pay to spend a night there...sounds like it could be right up your street ;)
Please don't think Kabul is a war zone! And Kabul isn't a warn-torn city as you would think! You go there and see it before you judge Afghanistan! Peace.
It is the definition of old but gold what an amazing aircraft, can’t go wrong with an a340
It seems as though Emirates really fly everywhere - a very enjoyable report!
+Natasha Stojsic Thanks a lot!
Its 2.5 hours from Dubai to Kabul
Except North Korea I think
Flown with Emirates A340 business class back in 2007 from Dubai to Hamburg. It was a great experience. They didn't serve Champagne back then. It was a great flight. Thanks for sharing the video it walked me through the memories I had with the A340.
Bappy Hoque Thanks! Why wasn't there champagne back then?
wecanfly777 I really don't know. They did not offer me any champagne. But there was awesome selection of wines.
brings back memories of those seats on the first generation 777-300 that did bkk and hongkong ....nice video.....
This is definitely a very rare video. This video is the definition of old but gold!!!
I was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and visited that past year and got to say i love the country and the media percieves people in thinking that no place in the country is beautiful but i think very opposite i love it!
Then come back tomorrow to see my new Kabul video!
BRUH 🙏😲
The A340-500 was a great airplane. Quads forever!
Welcome to AFG

When i see this video , I am feeling very happy , Because Afghanistan is my Homeland I will Never forget My beloved homeland Afghanistan , Thank you very much , and Welcome to Afghanistan, welcome again and again ,

Finally! For the first tim a travel report to Kabul in HD, this makes me really proud! Thank you so much ✌🏻️
Tamim Ferough My pleasure thanks for watching!
awesome trip report! If only those were still in service, it'd be an interesting experience to fly on them. Thanks for sharing. Liked and subbed
I did this flight regularly when I worked in Afghanistan....definitely better than the other options available.
Just going on a nature hike in the hills above Kabul all casual.
hehe and it was fun :)
Didn't know they have the suites onboard the A340. Thanks for the tour, very detailed and entertaining!
Only A340-500
GermanSpottingHD in the mid 2000’s the A345 was the workhorse of the Emirates fleet, they flew to JFK, MEL and SYD, which are all operated now by 777’s or A380’s
That was yet again a fantastic video Sir :)
Good video as always. Haven't travelled in the old style J Class seats. Think I actually recognise a few of the crew from some of my flights!
That was too cool. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure !
very nice video!! Im flying emirates on A380 business class in october, cannot wait now
beautiful plane indeed

omar yuusuf Actually you wouldn't want to, jetlag sucks!
Thank You for The Video. Love You Afghanistan from Bottom of My Heart.
my pleasure!
I bet you really have a nice flight with that A340-500 ! I miss that plane, last time I took an A340-600 of Qatar,, Sadly, they will be no longer in service just like you comment.. Enjoy flying mate!
Those suites must have seemed positively space age in late 2003. Most passengers would still be impressed with them.
I thoroughly enjoyed it Andy - thank you for this very beautiful journey you have put together and shared here on the A345. Take good care and safe flights, D
Thanks for the lovely comment! This is my tribute to a stunning aircraft which sadly will no longer fly later this year.
wecanfly777 Why did you want to fly to Kabul? It's not exactly a holiday resort
maria cornwallis My question also..and how Emirates dare operate into Kabul its a mystery for me..the whole city is unsecure at best..who will insure the aircraft??
The city is not insecure! When you only were there you would see the real Afghanistan and the positive and beautiful sise of our country.

Great video. Felt like I was there!
Tranlanderful Thanks!!
That was remarkable! Emirates should've kept their A345s for a longer time!
agreed!
FANTASTIC video!~ it is a dream of mine to fly with Emirates some day ... I so enjoy your personality and lovely smile ... until next time, cheers!~
Thanks that's very kind! I'll keep trying hard to make entertaining trip reports!!
@judi fotherby where should I go next with EK?
Emirates don't fly to AUH
I wish EK flew the A345 to long haul secondary destinations, possibly like EWR, MIA, ATL, and YVR. In Australia, ADL, OOL. I know it is fuel-guzzeling but for secondary "startup" routes the A345 could have worked very well until a larger aeroplane became ready or there was demand for a 777.

They used it on their New York route before their first A380
Rare footage of the Emirates A340. There are barely any photos/videos of the interior of the A340 & A330
I am glad I filmed this one! such a beautiful plane - heard it flies to antarctic now on charters
Ah memories...
the video was amazing .... just like you.
Great video. Keep doing these aviation videos!
Max 2003 Thanks! What should I do next?
wecanfly777
Seeing as you have done Emirates perhaps you could do Singapore Airlines A380 Suites or even Etihad Airways First Apartment or Residence?
I'll have to win the lottery first !

I bought economy but I'm Gold so I get upgraded for free all the time + sometimes I use my miles :)
