  • Welcome to the channel, I use 8×4×1mm shims and have had great success. however I've been educated on shims by a viewer. Learning every day.
    The outer diameter of the shim MUST NOT! be any larger than the outer diameter of the bearing. This may cause binding.
    However the inner diameter must match the size of your shaft/axle or pin. You may play around with different thickness of shim 0.1-0.2mm ect until your happy with play and no binding.

    The bearings in the 144/124019 hubs are actually only 1.8mm, in a later video I've found a better way in my opinion to use less shims or none at all. Check out the later video for updated hub wobble information. Also subscribe! To the channel for more mods/fixes

      I figured the dog bone being closer in the cup would be better, as long as the shim is smaller than the outer diameter of the bearing and it's winner winner chicken dinner. I've came up with various way to fix the play now, thanks for your comments and support.

    Just shimmed the wheels on my new 2nd 144001-no other mods yet and it does seem to help keep it in a straight line. My 1st one is a bit broken at the moment (Front gearbox cover smashed ) but as soon as its fixed i will try them side by side and see for sure. Waiting for metal c cups, seats etc (front and rear) I will do the same,direct comparison between original new and replaced metal bits!

    That video has a problem and not working for me:
    Ordered same 8 mm / 4 mm / 1 mm washers you preconize and it almost fit, no more wobble... until I try to rotate the wheels and now they are stuck as hell.
    8 mm outer diameter seem to be bigger than the bearings, and it grip something on plastic holder when screwing the wheel nut , costed me 5€ for nothing.
    Checked the received washer size and washer seller did not made an error. Also checked you are not using imperialist stuff, and you wrote millimeters in the comments.
    But seems to be promising IF you find the good diameters, gonna try to find a washer that could fit behind the bearing inside the plastic, so the rotating piece of metal will touch the bearing and not the washer.

    • @bretzeletouffeur7401
      @bretzeletouffeur7401 4 роки тому

      If the shims touch everything it neutralize the bearing. Bearing outer diameter is 7 mm, you would need a shim that touch inner part of the bearing without touching the outside part of the bearing (not even speaking about plastic holding bearing. That mod really sux and going to upgrade the bearing instead.

    • @mehimrc1314
      @mehimrc1314  4 роки тому

      @@bretzeletouffeur7401 the shims that work for me are the 8×4×1. The bearings I'm using are 8×4×3 for the lc racing hubs/bearings. Even on my standard car bearing 7×4×2.5 they work fine with NO BINDING. You've done to mod and cranked your tyres on stupidly tight. You should of checked for free rolling wheels before running.
      Other people have had success with the mod sorry something went wrong for you.

      Sounds like you've put the wheel on super tight I've not had one issue with the. Mod,and if your knowledgeable on shims. Why do it in the first place? And why not tell me I'm wrong? Instead I cost you money for nothing? Your own doubt cost you.. I personally haven't had an issue with the sizes I've said.

      @@mehimrc1314 Noway it can work good when washer neutralize the bearing, it act exactly like a break disc. It can work only if you do NOT screw enough the wheel nut but it is not the way it is supposed to work with mechanic and bearings. Bearing is made for inner disc rotate in compare to outer disc with minimal friction. Check the original car and you will see the metal transmission only touch the inner disc and outer disc touching plastic, even if you push metal. If you apply a washer that touch inner AND outer part of the washer at same time it makes friction. So if it work for you, I can tell you my mother did 500 Km with her real car with wheel nuts only rotated manually 2 turns, because air compressor of the garage was not working and the guy did not saw it. At the arrival the other garage guy said it was miracle she did not lost her 4 wheels on the highway.

    Hi, after a violent crash against a wall today, my 144001 drove a bit strange. Still fast, but it was no longer extremely fast after the crash. If you accelerate and stop accelerating, the wheels stop immediately. (The tires stops not smooth, rather immediately). So, the tires don't roll easily after I stop accelerating, stop turning immediately as if I had turned the tires tight. Do you know what's broken?

    • @mehimrc1314
      @mehimrc1314  3 роки тому

      This is like a zodiac riddle,i'll need to ask questions to even be in with a chance of telling you. You've crashed yet the car works but the wheels stop once you let off the accelerator? Hmm are the dog bones and cvd straight? Is the drive shaft straight? The motor could of shifted and tightened the mesh on the spur gear. If all those things are ok then your diffs are absolutely shot. Or depending on how bad the crash was it could be all of the above.

      "The motor could move and tighten the mesh on the spur gear."
      Maybe the problem can be here. What can I do if this is the problem?
      The engine makes slight sparks inside, is that normal?

    • @mehimrc1314
      @mehimrc1314  3 роки тому

      @@muromango4415 the sparks in the motor are fine it's just the brushes making electrical contact.
      You'll have to take the car apart so you can check the mesh between the spur and pinion. Also to check if the drive shaft is straight. If its bent hit it with a hammer once it's out the car to straighten.

    I bought 8x4x1mm shims but the wheels are totally blocked when I tighten the wheels nuts ! I assume that the pin in the axle which lies in the hex adapter gets pushed on the plastic around the OUTER bearing by the wheel nut (via the hex adapter) which can now travel further down the thread after the shimming...Solution: I loosend the wheel nuts a bit and used threadlock on them.
