I'm honestly impressed at how you can get those anatomical details with a relatively simple mesh. I keep struggling at that phase and can't move on. Any tips or areas to look out for that you can give?

well from a person that doesn't do Sculping but watch lots of people both new and old do it.
hmm Don't Focuse Too much at Getting it Perfect (Look at the Boob Segment in the Video) that's now how "Real Boobs" looks like since most Real boobs have a "Pinch" but he/she Din't bother to put that Detail cause he/she knew that Clothing would be Covering up that Area. and Worry more about how the Clothing will look.
Look at the Arms like around 3:30 see that topology. (aka the way it flows).
now look at how the person did that part Exactly she Pinch it a little bit. and Reajusted the Arms Hight a little bit. (cause it look like someone Broked it LUL).
Plus Second thing i tend to see new people do in Sculping. Focusing too much at Small Detail. What i mean by that.
they tend to be Too Zoom in into one Part. try like her Zoom out. She is Zoom in kinda Far from the object and trying to get the Silloute Right instead of Getting the Small Details in.
3:20 Where she is Working at the Hands is probably the best Example of what i mean.
she didn't worry about the Shape that much instead she worry more about the Places Where the Fingers would come out
She knew that a Hand looks Kinda Rectangular. so she went to that. and instead of going into Detail and Drawing the Hand Details she focus at you know it.
the Topology How will this Bend? she added Loops Exactly where the Fingers would Bend.
So on So Forth i can give Unlimited Examples just by this video Alone but i would be filling it up All way down XD.
      But here's one more
(About Scale. yea i can't help you with that since most people just know it (since most people use Reference to get that part Right).)
      Word of Advice?
yes , if it looks "Good Enough" then instantly Pass to the next part. Don't bother Fine Tune in it until the last part.
whats more important at the Start is Getting a Whole Model Done. than Getting a Good Looking Model. Why?
cause you will know where to improve.
Every Part of the Body is like a Tiny XP BAR.
The Head has! (Cheeks,Mouth,Teeth,Jaw,ETC,ETC) and every time you build it you will know where you lack.
      same thing with the Arms
Legs,Eyes,Feet,Hands. Every part of the Human has a Tiny EXP Bar and the More you Search on it (do Anamoty Study) the more you will get Better at it.
but at the same time Every Part has 1 Important Component that makes it more human..
if you want to improve on arm making.
Make your Base Shape of and Arm.
now Mold it into a Actuall Arm it should be Divided like in this video (into 3 parts Topper Arm. Bottom Arm and the Split Joint of both arms (then hands then Fingers XD oops).
look at this video closely it give you soo many Hints on actually making one.
      oops repeating myself sorry.
well since I'm repeating myself I'm gonna say Good Luck on your Endeavors. and Sorry for not Splitting it with , . : XD

@@pikachufan25 thanks for the reply. I have problems with sort of "breaking up" and "fixing up"the simple mesh to correct the edge flow. It just kinda overwhelming with the amount of vertices.
I wonder, would defining where the edge flow goes and filling the gaps after defining the base proportions be a more viable method?

    • @pikachufan25
      @pikachufan25 2 роки тому +11

      @@seanchoy236 Can't really help you since i don't have idea what your workflow style is like ;-;
but in general topology (Arrimus3D Do Good Examples on Topo) you want to make sure the Area you are Connecting has the Same Amount of Vertices as the Hole
lets take an Example - you have an Arm with 12 Vertices and you have a Hole with 24 Vertices, the Arm has too Little Vertices you want to Make Sure the Arm has 24 Vertices. before Connecting. to the Hole. there is Topology Tehniques to not Avoid Adding Extra Vertice to the whole Entire mesh but now you are going too in-depth for me to explain.
it can go the other way around too. Maybe you Choose the Body to be Lower Poly to fit the hand now you have to -Clean Up the Body- so it fits 12 Vertice.
this can go on and on.
but in General Advice Circle Holes tend to be 8 Verts (to make it Connecting Easier to a 2 Vertice or 4). you can go 6 in the Circle but you will have Troubles Connecting it to a 2
not saying its impossible. but you will require higher Grade Tecniques to do so.
Example of what im talking can be Found in 3:30 play it in Slower Speeds. like .5 to get what im saying here
      Look at the Arm Carefully
(top side) it looks like it has 8 Faces (could be Counting Wrong!).
(you can get a Really good Look at the Bottom Arm at 3:31)
and it looks like looks like it has 12 Faces. (Could be Counting Wrong!). so time to ask yourself. how will you connect it (taking the Prior Knowledge into account).
Exactly you will be forced to add Vertice somewhere. now how many Dots(verts) you will need to add to connect here?
Exactly 4 Verts. (i think LUL my math could be wrong oops sorry).
so with this Extra Geometry its up to you to decide where to waste it. She Decide to waste it on the Hardy Part of Arm.
at 3:33 shows you how she Insetted the Mass there Look Closely.
after that the Arm is Fully Fix. Pretty Simple Right?
after that she Fine Tune it so it doesn't look off once she is happy with it she continue on.
in the Arm Case Don't add More Vertices in the Direction of the Hole instead add more Vertices in the other Direction. so you don't have to worry about the Hole Too much.
(UA-cam is Starting to get Really Laggy LUL).
(another way to look at it)
less is more in this care if you are Adding Loop Cuts you should Problably Apply the Sub-d. then Start Moving it (apply at the Lowest Level. always)
but if you need to apply it again then you are Problably Adding Too much Detail. unless you need/want that Detail. :P but remember Higher Detail means More Work to do on Patching it up.
Arrimus3D Mention about this a lot in his Video's.
so to be clear im not a Pro this are just the things i personally Catch When i saw Her Video. Multiple Times. and from personally Experience from Messing Around in 3D Modeling.
Good Luck and i Hope you learn something XD cause i sure did LUL

@@seanchoy236 Just an idea like that. If you are overwhelmed by the amount of vertices and faces you can un-subdivide your model do the change then re-subdivide. There can be some unexpected conversion error to fix but it is usually not that bad. I really often un-subdivide my models before doing significative modifications.

She is cute still I think it is possible to improve the eyes by doing the pocket trick. Sorry I do not know if this has a better/more official name. Anyway It would prevent the eyes form looking bulgy when seen from the side. If somebody wonder what it is, it is easy to find examples from popular MMD model like Sour YYB ect and many game models by example Genshin Impact. Actually the vast majority of anime style 3d model use a pocket or flattened hemisphere as an eyeball to prevent bulging. I also use a variant of this that I tweaked to work better with realistic materials and a refractive cornea.

    • @leucome
      @leucome 2 роки тому +3

If you look closely you will notice that they use the sculpting tool all the time. It is mostly sculpting and box modeling combined. The workflow is something like box, extrude, loop cut, sculpt then repeat up until the character is complete.
The idea is that you get an optimal topology that is ready to rig/pose/animate. So there is no need to do a re-topology. Doing a re-topology over a sculpt is about as long as just doing a proper topo from the start. This workflow is pretty popular because Zbrush is an external tool and studio can hire a sculptor to sculpt, a modeler to retopo then a riger to rig. Then they can each works on a separated specialized software. This workflow only make sense when you do have access to a whole team of expert. Doing it this way has no real advantage for a single person. Unless you are practicing to become specialized in one field.
