I react to 'The Night Osama Bin Laden Was Killed May 1, 2011 Full Feature HD' from the War is Hell channel. One of the more emotional videos I've reacted to covering the famous Navy SEAL raid in Pakistan.

I was older than you are now when 9/11 happened. I want you to know that the only time I cried that day was when the played a clip on the evening news coverage of the band in England playing our national anthem and said that the Queen had personally requested that. I will always be grateful to her for that.

It was appreciated. I was teaching HS kids from DC so my day was a bit hectic, and different. I cried the next day, when I learned my home room students sister was on the flight that hit the Pentagon. I cried again when my friend Tim in NY went to 13 funerals, and checked himself into a mental hospital. His whole company died, and he survived because his daughter forgot her back pack.

When 9/11 happened, I had just finished my training as an FMF Corpsman. I hadn't yet gotten my orders to a unit, but, I already knew I was going to be going to war. When this happened, I had already been out of the service for 6 years. That's why this was such a huge deal. For quite a few years, it felt like we would never get Bin Laden. When we finally did, it was HUGE.

I was born 2003 however my dad is a West Point grad, of 2001. He was deployed in Iraq when I was born. He deployed seven times over the course of his career, while I don’t remember where I was during 9/11, i remember how it affected my family. My dad was deployed when bin Laden was killed and called my mom at the ungodly hour he learned, she cheered. She told me to wear red white and blue the next day to school. To hear people saying obama did something right in rural Georgia was a shock even to my thrid grade mind

The night that Bin Laden's death was announced, it was a Sunday night, and obviously nothing really breaks news unless it's something serious. So when the White House announced a news conference that night, before they even mentioned Bin Laden, I thought to myself, "If this isn't about Bin Laden, I don't want to hear about it." Well... it was.
I definitely remember when 9/11 happened. I was in 10th grade (year 11 in the UK), had just switched classes, and they had the TV on during the attack. All day long, we couldn't concentrate on school. I happened to live next to Fort Bragg, NC, one of the largest Army bases in the country. It was always free access to the public. But that day, that base closed its gates. Controlled access only. Everything changed that day.
The whole world was showing solidarity with us the days after. Just about every U.S. Embassy gate was covered with flowers and mourners. And I especially love the Queen ordering the Star Spangled banner to be played for the first time ever. Love our British cousins.

I watched this game live. It was only a few weeks into the season & it was an extremely boring game.
My boyfriend at the time was at the game & I found out about Bin Laden when he texted, then the tv broadcast announced it!
    A couple bizarre coincidences:
    - The announcement at the game was during the 9th inning, score tied at 1-1 (9/11)
    - The one broadcaster, Bobby Valentine, was actually the former Mets manager (head coach) during 9/11.
    - The Mets were the 1st team to play a game right after 9/11, weeks later.
    - You also have to consider how Philly & NY are really close to each other and a lot of families from both fans were affected.
**The UA-cam channel called baseball doesn’t exist, is really good! A lot of non-baseball fans love his videos.
Mets & Phillies are playing a 2 game series in London this June.

I was in 7th grade gym class 80 miles away from Washington D.C. at first I joked like uh how could someone hit a big building (thinking it was an accident) then by the next period my math teacher didn’t teach we all sat stunned and shocked watching the carnage. I remember seeing people jump to their death from the towers. Some were literally blinded by smoke and just walked over the edge with out realizing it. Our teacher then turned it off and by that time most everyone was being picked up by parents. I think it’s important to see those moments to remember that not all people value life as we do and that evil people will do evil things

To be honest, the amount of British reaction hosts ( if that’s the correct term) that show so much respect to the things that happen involving the US, i almost don’t consider you as a foreigner my friend. There’s such a long history between the two that it’s more akin to a cousin you have not seen for a while type feeling. I fully understand that we are two different groups, but, not separated by very much. I do watch alot of British comedy and panel shows and perhaps that has skewed my perception. You blokes are definitely great in my book. Maybe sling Mr. Frye a knighthood if you get a chance. That would be awesome to see and to hear his eloquence at a speech about him receiving his honor would be one of the greatest and humbling things ever.

I remember the morning of 9/11 perfectly, because I was at home sleeping off the night before and I got a call from my mom telling me to turn on the news immediately. I watched in horror as the towers fell. Moments after I got off the phone with my mom, my Marine Corps recruiter started blowing up my phone, and when I answered he said "Pack your shit because your not going to Marine Corps boot camp in January, you leaving in 2 weeks". I had enlisted in Marine Corps in July that year and I was waiting to find out about a Med Board to clear me because I had a plate in my wrist and I couldn't go to boot camp until it confirmed I was fit for duty. He told me that my Med Board had cleared and I would be Swearing in at the MEPS (military entrance processing station) as soon as he could get me there and I shipped out to MCRD San Diego on October 8th, 2001.

It was 9:05 am when I turned the tv on and literally thought it was some movie, they were previewing .it took me a few hours to realize that it was real. The streets were empty, over 100 trains went by my house every day but there were none that day,its like the whole country had just stopped. every channel was about the attack.

A home run is when the batter makes such a good hit that he’s able to run the complete 4 bases. In that situation, there were players on bases 1 and 2, so the player at base 2 was able to clear bases 3 and 4 (home plate), scoring a point.
A “grand slam” is when the bases are loaded, meaning there are players on bases 1, 2, and 3, and the batter makes a home run, therefore scoring four points in a single play.

I was really young only 7 I was in second grade and the only thing I remember is being at school and we would be on the playground before class started and I just remember seeing teachers in a panic going from classroom to classroom looking for other teachers. In hindsight probably to tell each other what is going on as this was prior to mobile phones being common.
I don't remember actually learning about the actual events which my mom told us when we got home but I just remember the panic coming from the teachers and that stuck with me for some reason

I'm 28, America will be a important factor in American culture for at least another 20 years i think. Unless something radically changes, i saw it live in Michigan and I'm 28, which alot of us went through.
Homeland security department was meant to be temporary... but it's still here. It was interesting moment because it was so different than other nations really experienced before.

@Ira88881 depends on the region. I used American just as a catch all for any non-americans. Anyone who lives here definitely understands the difference between American culture and regional culture that most of us use to identify(the pop vs soda vs coke debate for example, where no one is debating having free refills)

I didn't really think much of it, after almost 10 years, I was almost 20 and didn't exactly believe it. And I knew someone else would take his place. I was actually more worried about what his successor would do to avenge his death. And a lot of people felt the same, it was a time of uncertainty and fear. Bin Laden had been on the run, but his successor probably wouldn't have been, it was edge of your seat waiting for the worst.

If you haven't seen it I recommend BOATLIFT - An Untold Tale of 9/11 Resilience. It is one hell of a mini documentary. I'm from New Jersey and close enough I could see the plume of ash on 9/11. I also had a pair of AH-1W attack choppers with 16 hellfires and 2 sidewinders each fly over my yard. I had to use email to contact my uncle to make sure he and his wife were alright in the city.

Most of the country had tuned out the 'wars on terror' years before this. Tens of millions of Americans felt great shame that we were destroying Iraq and Afghanistan and killing hundreds of thousands of civilians. What you see here is the effect of crowd behavior. This was not at all representative of how the country reacted. There were no wild celebrations in the streets. It was a normal day for the average American.
