roadside rescue, automotive technician, mobile mechanic, roadside mechanic
I gain more and more respect for you the more of your videos I watch. First off you're a great mechanic. Secondly, you're a genuinely good person. The thing that makes me respect you more than both of those things is your ability to get things done in the crappiest of temperatures and in inconvenient places without complaining and whining about it. You just do whatever it takes to get whatever needs to be taken care of, and I admire that
Thank you! I try and make the best of it!
I am SO GLAD I'm not the only one that dumps FWD transmissions off that Harbor Freight trans jack. EVERY time I try to 'free support' a trans on that thing, I end up dumping it! Good video, Ernest - sorry that you had to go through all the stress - thanks for bringing us along though!
lol thanks for watching!
Good job bro. Always better being able to fix your own car. Even though the transmission took a week it's still faster than a shop. Plus a car saved from the junkyard.
Very true!
Your the man Ernest. You replaced a transmission in your wife's car in your driveway. Not many people can do that. I also work on my cars in my driveway with no garage. One day I want a 2 bay garage with a nice lift. Might have to move to south Carolina though where the houses are cheaper.
Yeah hoping to end up back home in Tennesse or maybe KY close by. I miss it there.
Thank you!
Well hurry up and move here! I live in Charlotte ,you can work on my cars. After 42 yrs. of working on trucks i dont even want to change my oil anymore!!lol!
I moved outta salt lake city in 2021 from an 800 sq ft house came out to Columbia SC got a 1800 sq ft house on .50 acres for less than half what I sold the Utah house for. Come on out the roaches don't bite lol.
Another great video man ! Glad everything worked out with law suit and glad you got the transmission fixed , also happy to know I’m not the only one who buys crap cars and fixes em rather than getting a loan
Thank you! Yeah no need for a loan.
Ernest, I am so happy for you to have the CRV fixed. It is not easy without a lift. Just change the distributor seal soon. Next you can finally get the mobile truck fixed. God Bless 🙏.
Thank you! very excited to start on the cummins again!
Nice work! As a mechanic myself,i always try -avoid it as i may- to lightly spray wash/blow off dust, leaves in the engine bay. Otherwise in some cars rain water will end up in the cabin.
Select Opel owners have had water mess the ECUs right under the bottom of the windshield.
crazy
Props on the install!
I was glad it shifted smoothly. I love it.
Little Honda tip to pulling axels, leave tie rod end and upper ball joint connected. Serperate only the lower ball joint. Love the videos 🤙
Well, Your wife knows that working on cars is your bliss,
So, it is her gift to you.
!
You know something? Being poor sucks, buying older cars will get you financially ruined not because they bad cars, but when they get older people don't maintain them, neglected cars cost money. New expensive car will bankrupt you for sure when they get older and thus cheaper.Buying is never the problem, maintaining them is. For the environment older cars are excellent, nothing wrong with them, also you can work on them easily, while the newer ones is all plastic, so crammed you have no way to work on them.
this dude seen him coming a mile away. he was all "what do you recommend? lolz
New rear main crank seal replace sounds as a good idea.
Watching you from Wales( Not part of England), great videos. 🏴
A rubber mount starts to bust out before you ever notice it Don't replace them all at once... I guess you can if you have the money and you don't care but don't buy them from the parts store not AutoZone or O'Reilly buy them from Honda online It's not like a ball joint where if the OEM ball joint on one side is loose they're all getting loose which is a pretty good guesstimation
That's what got me in the cars is I used to build gaming computers and then I got a 1997 Honda Accord and did a head gasket on it and never once touched the car before ever since then Ive been a Mobile Mechanic.
"never to see the light of day again" again. lol
lolz its like a bad dream now
Oops. Sorry about that one!
Them b20s are tough. I liked the older 4ws prelude. I swapped a 98 h22a engine into a 96 prelude that had the obd1 non vtec h23. The car picked up quite a but of power with a tuned ecu and the shorter gear ratio of the h23 trans. That was my first swap at 17 for a buddy
Badass. 💪👍
I'm glad that I bought a second generation CR-V with a stick shift. It's a really solid vehicle but I do anticipate having to replace the clutch at some point in the forseeable future being that the car has 214k on the odometer.
I just bought my wife a Toyota Camry. First order is replacing the transmission 😁
Hi Ernest! Instead of taking the top ball joint and tie rod off to get the axle out just pop the bottom ballhoijt off instead
Cool, thanks
I fucking hate logistics fiascos
HEADACHE! Always nice hearing from you!
@@RoadsideRescue thanks yea you did a great job on the transmission swap
My family has 2 of these rd1's. they are work horses
DANGNABBIT
i noticed the engine light is still on
lolz
This may sound crazy but with most fwd cars I'll just pull the engine and Trans together. Separate them outside the car and throw it back in. It's easier than trying to Separate it in the car most of the time.
Dude get your wife and kids a decent car and get rid of that relic
Thanks
Thank You!
Yep i have the 3 ton low profile Pittsburgh jack no creep on it
Your lucky it wasn't a AWD transmission more heavy brotha. Great content I own a 01 Crv AWD also
A car lift definitely would make your life easier, great video. Thanks
Agreed!
I didn't understand the lawsuit story - what exactly happened?
been in a lawsuit for a couple of years thats had all my money tied up. Finally settled. So i can get my big truck running again soon!
Absolutely a job well done!
Yeah… spare NUTS isn’t good advertising 😅😅😅😂😂
Hey guys I live in a complex so repairs are a breach in my lease wheres a good place to do a break job ? I’ve had luck with Walmart in the past
Auto parts store. Anything you need is right there just in case.
Damn
😭
what is with contractors cheeping the concrete in driveways hey know heavy cars will be on them unlike the floor in your house which is probable not done rite either is it rite or right um huh write
i dont want this to sound insutlting to the wife, but i seriously have issues if she does not take care of the car, driving correctly learning everything to prevent the trans to go so soon and ,many times etc i also mean it must cost $$$$$ headaches for get lawsuits etc
yah sue the wife!
Use the cherry picker to lift the trans
😅New Subscriber! Trying to figure out where you have the camera (GoPro?) when your both hands free. If you have the time
Clipped to my overalls zipper slightly open. People always ask about the hood shot as well.
May I bother you again? Is it a GoPro? And while your here, i will also ask about the hood shots. Also, your voice is so clear that I was searching for a wireless mic and dont see one. @@RoadsideRescue
Logistics, wish hav some ans for dat due to deir financial preferences they hav alot to get away wid like wrong phone# just one of doze gimmick which can work for Logistics but especially ppls like Mr Earnest wid small kids & family keeps suffering through Logistic's tyrannical tactics dat bkums vry shocking vry sad scenario
what!?
Haha I just bought a first-gen CRV, should I be worried!?
nah. this one was $300
and almost 400k miles i knew it would have issues
@@RoadsideRescue Thanks Earnest - proving nominative determinism is real. My 110k mile manual has barely been run in then!
I have one I got for $600 with almost 400k as well. The auto trans is maybe a weak spot, but cheap and easy to replace.
The big annoyance is doing the bushings every 5-10 years. (buy the good ones, installation costs more than the part).
i guess that depends, is earnest your mechanic?
Wondering when you are going to purchase a Toyota, or a Honda. Just saying.... .
Buy the that saint of wife a 5th gen 4runner.
Get a new wife save your money 🤔👍 stop wasting your time .
I thought Honda's were supposed to be reliable?
yeah...
My friend went from a Jeep Grand Cherokee to a Honda CRV thinking she would save money on gas she ended up pouring $6,000 into a new wiring harness needless to say when she got it back guess what happened she went to the nearest Jeep dealer and traded it in for a new Jeep Grand Cherokee she hasn't regretted she's out $7,000
Hondas have weak transmissions.
310,000 and counting.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q The worse one seems to be Nissans Jatco cvt
Good brother nice work, but try to edit and make video shorter to be more interesting for viewers.
Maybe he needs to teach his wife how to drive cause she keeps breaking shit
nice work 🔧⚙️🔩🪛👍
Thank you 👍
You gotta know when to fold them 🃏
Let her wake
Damn! My wife has a 2005 CRV that is still going strong, but makes all kinds of little creaks and clicks in the suspension.
That’s a real man! Absolutely doing whatever it takes for his family! Glade it worked out!
I respect his mechanic ability, but real men don't let their wives drive 25 year old cars. That vehicle has none of the safety features of newer vehicles.
@@trinidad179 who wants to buy a brand new depreciating asset? That’s probably why they decided to just keep fixing it. The Democrats I do away with the gasoline engines, not a wise investment.
Thanks for another great video Ernest! I'm not a professional mechanic, but I have been wrenching on vehicles for more than 40 years, all while the vehicle is on jack stands or ramps. You're one of my go-to channels where I always manage to learn something new. Keep 'em rollin' brother!
Where did you order the transmission from?
Your wife must be a saint. Have never seen a wife put up with a car like that. Maybe it’s like the cobblers family have no shoes so maybe train one of the kids to clean the car.
Yeah. I'll try and get her a nice car this year. we'll see its on the priority list.
@@RoadsideRescueLexus RX300 would be a nice upgrade for reasonable cost.
davidharrison3173… must be nice, Mr Moneybanks asshole.
I know it might not really seem like less work... but I highly reccomend a rust free rwd jeep cherokee. Also a mobile mechanic who got tired of fixing the wifes cars every other week (fing ford windstar van, pos is still broken down similarly long story of engine and trans replacement). Bought her the jeep last December, had the jeep for about 1 week before deciding it needed an engine swap (piston skirt clatter, plus blown head gasket, knew when we bought it that we would use our parts jeep to fix it), and after removing 2 engines, one in the garage the other in the dirt, and installing the good 1/4 million mile motor in the jeep and having 0 problems so far out of it for 2 months straight, I dont believe i will ever want to go back to a v block or 4 cylinder again! Bout the longest I've gone between car repairs in 3 years! Easy to diagnose with the 5 senses as well as cheap and available! I am turning that particular 1998 rwd cherokee into a 3 row road jeep for hauling the family (4 babies under 5 😅) around and hauling flip cars home. Just picked up a spare engine this weekend for a cheaper than parts to fix the old motor, plus I only have to check it over before installing instead of a crank out rebore/rebuild. Save 20 hours there hopefully, lol, The 4.9 (ford) and 4.0 inline 6 engines seem like they are paired with some of the greatest cars of all time. And the classic cherokee in particular is quite modular, comfortable, has a great exhaust note, and is honestly one of the best and easiest cars I've come across so far. All the luck to you and yours in finding safe reliable wheels. Seems harder every day to this fellow young mechanic.
Such entitlement, what is she bringing to the table??
Him: How is this happening?
Her: If you ain't first you're last!
SHAKE N BAKE BABY!
😂
Never go without your license I don't cause that one time you do it its a lot of trouble
"that was probably just this clunking around" as your holding up the sensor killed me lmao love it
Women and cars are like water and oil.
Of course there's always exceptions.
It seems to be the new customer service.
Thats awesome bro. 👌🏽 Nothing more than to make the wife and kids happy to get there wheels going again. God bless you and your family. Keep the good job up and video's going. 👍🏽
Thanks 👍
Enjoy watching you work and i prefer longer videos more educational and entertaining
Great video brother. I can tell you how many times I've worked on a broken down car in my driveway. That's what I get for buying beaters haha
The risk we are wiling to take. It helps knowing how to fix em!
W mechanic
I just did one of these recently and the torque converter bolts call for 8ft pounds and it broke off but I sent it anyway hasn’t had a problem
Man, bro, I really feel for you about all of that mess! I’ve been there before myself! You are one tough dude, working outside in the rain and cold and doing videos on top of it. I think I would be throwing the camera across the yard. Lol. Great video, bro!
that's a job well done ernest.might be time to ditch the honda for a toyota.
yeah... would love a 4runner. will be looking for something new this year.
lol
That was really satisfying to watch. Thanks for sharing and glad it worked out.
yah it worked out alright, the scrap yard loves him.
I think what destroys the automatic transmission is using the incorrect transmission fluid which eats the clutchpacks and causes the transmission to slip. Be careful which type of transmission fluid you put into it!
Dearborn people are stupid to use what they want to so why even bother talking about it
Hondas like Honda fluids.
You are good at this. Like all the other guys on here. Derek, puddin, junkyard digs. Keep ot up!!!!
Thanks 👍That menas a lot!
he's so good he decided to do it 9 more times.
My old 02 accord shifted 1-2 and then 2-3 and then 3-4. You could see 800rpm drop between shifts. But it was 2800rpm at 60mph. Had it for 6 months. Never changed. Everyone said it wasn’t in 4th. But I disagree. What was issue? Sold it.
I ‘ve done a fair amount of work on cars at the roadside under a clear tarpaulin, jury rigged as a tent, you just need good lead lights. But In a driveway I have often thought that a cheapo garden Gazebo would be useful to keep off the rain and snow. I’m one of those who gets disheartened with the rain running into my eyes off a greasy engine !
When will you be able to get your big truck running
when he brings it to a real mechanic. thats when
They say if you don't have stuff leftover from doing a motor swap you didn't do it right lol
That was a big job !!! I appreciate watching all that work.
Thats a great feeling Earnest when you hear and feel that first smooth shift.! Job well done!
it is! thank you!
I loved the table in my 99 CRV
. I wrapped it Matte Pine Green and sold it last month for $2,500 with 240k miles. Ran great.
She don't know any a****** that would pay me $2,500 for a $250,000 me piece of s***
save this year to get her a newer honda. those are great cars but maybe its time for this one
agreed
Ernest_ family man first, getting it done. 👍
