- Conquer the skies on Kings Dominion’s Rapterra, the world’s tallest and longest launched wing coaster. New in 2025, Rapterra simulates the flight of the legendary Jungle Hawk with an intense initial launch, plunging dives, twisting maneuvers and sweeping turns.
Designed by: Bolliger & Mabillard
Coaster type: Launched Wing
Tallest point: 145 feet
Launch speed: 65 miles per hour
Inversions: 3 (Dive loop, flat spin corkscrew, 360° raptor roll)
Length: 3,086 feet
Duration: 89 seconds
Trains: 2
Riders per train: 20
Rapterra’s Immersive Backstory: Centuries ago, ancient leaders built a shrine to honor the mighty Jungle Hawk. People who entered the shrine became spiritually linked to-and temporarily possessed-the powers and abilities of the bird of prey.
Building the temple at the base of a volcano, Mt. Inferna, proved unfortunate. The ground surrounding the magma chamber collapsed, burying the Jungle Hawk temple under mounds of volcanic rock. The temple seemingly vanished from the earth.
Archaeologists recently discovered the volcanic site and unearthed the remains of the Jungle Hawk shrine. The bird’s ferocious spirit remains at the site, launching brave riders to exhilarating new heights. Rapterra: The world’s tallest and longest launched wing coaster.

Kings Dominion customers are going to love this rollercoaster. Thunderbird at Holiday World is similar and i love that ride. I actually rank it higher than GateKeeper at Cedar Point.
You better rank it higher!😂
Thunderbird is awesome.
Thunder bird slaps so hard
Gatekeeper is so mid lol
But keeper has the keyhole element which is brilliant
This looks great! It’s not Volcano, but it’s still cohesive in its theming, and I love to see parks putting in a little effort in making new rides fit well in their environment.
Couldn’t have said it better myself
In all honesty, It won't match up with Volcano. But hopefully it's not an underwhelming attraction.
The roller coaster community is healing with all these new rides
Aside from all the whining little twerps crying over THE B&M RATTLE!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah.
2023 was one of the best years for coasters since 2018 what healing was to be done lol
@@tdchris2002 Top Thrill 2
It is incredible
MF's thought they could sneak in RollerCoaster Tycoon screams at the beginning and we wouldn't notice.
Hey, you don't mess with success! 😁
I originally pushed it off as a Wing coaster with no near miss elements (the entire reason the model exists) but then realized this is the third launched Wing coaster and the second in the US. B&M is going crazy with the launched coaster era
That last roll is ripe for a near miss or two! It's low to the ground and that would be a great finale.
the little outerbank trick track into the brakes looks dope
It is now time to see if all the B&M trash talkers were right, or if they’re about to eat their words. I really hope this ride turns out smooth unlike Iron Menace, seems like a really good fit for KD.
I've seen several posts about Iron Menace being a disappointment. What's your take on all that? I'm getting to the point that my body can't really handle extreme stuff anymore, but I love reading all the uproar (good and bad). 😅
@@BruinPhD2009 I haven’t ridden it but that ride looks super rough. In fact, if it had conventional shoulder harnesses it would probably have more head banging than a Vekoma SLC. They clearly messed something up but it could be a number of things. Option 1 is misaligned track which seems unlikely from B&M. Option 2 is a misaligned wheel base which also seems unlikely from B&M. Option 3 is that they changed their chassis design and some part of it is allowing more movement than it should. Option 4 is that the footers shifted more than expected during testing which is causing track misalignment. 3 and 4 are both likely, I’ve heard Iron Menace uses different trains than the other dive coasters and I’ve heard stories about how soft the ground is by Steel Force.
@@wickedsickfunkyfreshroller2037 It was fine for me
I love how at 0:45 you can hear the anti-rollback dogs slam back down after the airtime, even though this is just a render. It looks like an awesome coaster though and I'm very much looking forward to riding it next year. Hopefully it turns out smooth…
I wonder what this was rendered in
Anti rollback dogs on an LSM launch coaster, that’s funny.
Looks like a good addition to KD. They are in desperate need of anything right now but this is a good start.
I don’t understand all the criticism KD gets. Honestly if they kept their current coaster lineup for the next 10 years and didn’t get anything new, I’d still be happy with what they have.
@@wickedsickfunkyfreshroller2037It's not "Hate", It's the harsh truth. KDs management is garbage. The people in charge are destroying the legacy KD once had. It's honestly sad.
@@JoeyH-sb3fq I didn’t say hate, I said criticism. I totally believe you thank park management is bad, but there’s plenty of mismanaged parks that still have very good coaster lineups. Imo KD is the third best Cedar Fair park, it’s clean, above average operations, good collection of coasters and flat rides, and has friendly staff.
@@wickedsickfunkyfreshroller2037It's also more scenic than most parks and unlike some bigger parks, it feels like it has character. A place you can also go to enjoy yourself, not just for the rides.
@@grandjohn The irony is in the earlier days Busch Gardens Williamsburg was the lush beautiful park and Kings Dominion was a blistering concrete slab of sun death. But then the trees grew up at KD and it's a pretty park now.
This new area is gonna look so awesome once this is in!
Now if only Anaconda could get replaced soon...
@@peterroberts4415 na #arrowforlife
I wish wing coaster designs would use the "wing" to its advantage more. You could get some crazy forces by getting a little more aggressive with the profiling but they always opt to just make the transitions smooth and gradual.
@@KyleJPie10 s&s and Intamin have what you're looking for.
Kings dominion has it all. Woodies hyper loopers . Indoor roller coaster. Even a damn RMC Park is awesome.
Looking forward to seeing the train! Hope they're themed well
The only thing really missing is those near miss elements you see on many wing coasters. Otherwise, not a half bad addition to the park.
Lets go! Man these renders are starting to look incredibly realistic
I agree! I love seeing the "skyline" with some of the other attractions, and how realistic the section is that shows you coasting right next to Tumbili.
Exactly what the park needs. Hope the theming and landscaping turns out as good as it looks in the render.
Hey, It’s Brandon from triple towers. It was great to see you in person. Love your content it’s entertaining, educated and well thought through (others need to take note)
100% love this. B&M had fun with this one, you can tell!
Dang, this looks pretty good.
Wish they had fire like Volcano, can't wait to see it in person
Am I underestimating the pacing, or am I the only one who's a little underwhelmed? Not saying it looks bad by any means, but I was hoping for this to actually go all out on what a wing coaster can do, because I feel like we've yet to see that. Recently rode Fenix, which is restricted by its size, but has five times the theming (at least compared to the rendering), and additionally to the inversions delivers both a great dangling sensation before the drop and the intense positive Gs of the helix. Would love to see that all-around quality "at full scale", and I thought the replacement of such an iconic coaster in a major park was the shot to get that. Still looks great fun ofc
I'm a little underwhelmed. I Love wing coasters, but this one looks just okay. (I would LOVE to be dead wrong btw) I feel like the wing design has so much potential that has only been scratched up until this point. I was hoping that KiDm would be pushing this model forward. This doesn't look all that different from what's already been.(except no near-miss element? That's what you leave out?) I do appreciate the airtime hill because I Love airtime on wing coasters. Can we get more than one?
@@drwhorush246 for the near misses I think there is hope because on the one hand it's just a rendering that I don't know if it was meant to already become public, and second I've seen with Fenix that some completion in the surroundings just came years after the coaster opening. Like now there is a tower with a kids flyer attraction right in the middle of the helix that consequently now circles through a trench. Wasn't there when the coaster opened, telling from videos, and it really adds! So maybe there are still plans on the theming side that we haven't seen yet
I agree, but we have to ride it to know if it's truly underwhelming for sure.
A wing coaster without a keyhole element?
My thoughts exactly.. maybe they’re leaving it out intentionally.
I will love to ride it
It's beautiful ❤
Looks fun
the pacing is flawless
Good for you.
Oh wow, this reminds me of Blue Fire Megacoaster by Mack Rides, that launch looks awesome!
That looks fucking amazing
Can we get a Problematic Roller Coasters or Theme Park Marvels on VelociCoaster!?!?!
Near miss element on one of the inversions (preferably the last) let’s make em do it, least they can do to make up for the short length of this and such a long wait for a proper replacement of volcano!
Can you imagine a flying coaster with a drop track… that sensation would be incredible
Nice to see them get something big
Incredible!
Great to see b&m becoming more confident with LSM technology. I’ve only ridden thunderbird… and good lord does that launch put any MACH launch to shame.
seems tame by KD's standards - I305 is the only coaster I've ever grayed out on - and while it's no Volcano, I'm so happy the park is finally getting SOMETHING
would definitely benefit from a near miss but still looks like a fun ride that won't make me want to collapse and die on the pavement once getting off
How many block zones? lol. This looks amazing.
That last roll needs a chopper!
The ride looks good, but there’s one thing I have to give them and that is that the screams were very realistic
Can’t wait!
The wait is finally over, volcano’s replacement is finally here!!!
The only Volcano replacement is to hire an Intamin competitor to build the same ride again.
Conquer the skies
If the pacing is this good it will probably be a top 3 wing
Immaculate
Looks fine
Looks cool. Shame to ride it I’ll have to travel back to VA and be able to fit in the seat.
I like this
Am I missing something? I didn’t hear one mention of a block zone!!
That's funny😂
The question of height restriction is on my mind. We have a 9 year old that can currently ride twisted Timbers and A lot of rides at Busch Gardens and Hershey Park. It seems that a lot of these coasters at Kings Dominion have taller height restrictions.
I'll be honest, it looks less forceful then Thunderbird. Thunderbird has a lot of tight turns which this really doesn't seem to have. I hope I'm wrong, because wing coasters deserve to be good, but I am still concerned.
PLEASE B&M make this ride smooth like you used to do!
I peaked over the fence last week and saw some of the track getting installed. Then I got kicked off of Tumbili for being too tall.
The launch and loop might be cool but a lot of the elements don’t seem that great to me honestly. A lot of just turning lol
Short and No Near Miss elements
It isn’t that short
Womp Womp 😭 I can’t get over how entitled some thoosies feel, it’s a fuckin rollercoaster you’ll like to ride it anyway
wahhhh wahhhhh wahhhh, it’s not a 500 foot RMC T-Rex with 65 seconds of airtime and 22 inversions! What am I gonna dooooooo!
@@wickedsickfunkyfreshroller2037no but it does seem like a weak wing, there are several opportunities to increase thrill such as making the turn after the launch a cut back
@@jamcamrailfanning There’s several opportunities on every coaster to increase thrill. Why not add a 300 foot lift hill and 8 second Zero-G stall to lil Phantom? I swear, thoosies hate roller coasters more than anyone else.
Damn, it's coming in the fall of 2025.... I was hoping it would drop in the summer.... well, I hope it's early September.... or hopefully by some chance, August
Who says it’s opening in Fall? They’ve already installed a few track pieces.
Imagine today being the first day you saw the pov video
I would genuinely would rather wait 3 extra years for a wing coaster than get a dive coaster 3 years earlier.
A shame these launched Wings have short trains. 20/train is low for a B&M.
Wing trains are extremely heavy
Is this just a really amazing render or is it actually testing now? If the latter, why 2025?
It's the official render, it's still under construction.
@@Adam-lw9il well its a pretty damn amazing one then!
It’s going to be rough as hell like other b&ms
No
looks like it could be the coaster that I305 wasn't.
I'm sorry, But this honestly looks underwhelming. Hopefully the actual ride experience is different.
@@Themeparkfan630You most definitely can. The animations these parks make today are more accurate than before. The speed and course you are seeing will be what it is.
This should have been a hyper Wing coaster as well as the longest
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
nice coaster, just what the park needed. just scaptical about the small trains, 5 cars is not mutch for a B&M. Stil 20 riders but i think a 7 car train would be better, knowing there only be 2 trains on the track
This seems relatively tame for kings dominion
Is this in the plot of land volcano was in?
yes
I think most of the space but not all of it. I can’t remember if tumbili is on the spot where tomb raider used to be. I haven’t been to KD in 10+ years sadly.
Jesus, we're really approaching the point where it takes a second or two to realize it's not real footage but an animation. 10-15 more years, I'd say.
No loop😢
Let’s just hope for no rattle
Called it
i have mixed feelings about the layout
A much better layout than that Chinese clone we were worried they’d install.
no near misses tho?
Not a very long ride, is it? Some of those elements look fun, though.
Volcano and I305 aren't long rides.
The sad thing is that since all the new b&Ms have been rattly, and wings are the worst, this is gonna be shaky as hell :(
Capacity on this thing is gonna suck
Idk... first element could've been a banana roll
Raptor Roll is just a Mosasaurus Roll wannabe
Replacing Anaconda?
Volcano
Pretty underwhelming as the coaster replacing Volcano
If you look at it on its own its a great ride.
Imagine not being satisfied with a launched B&M wing coaster.
Never judge a coaster by it’s animated POV- never know how good it’ll end up being! :)
@@wickedsickfunkyfreshroller2037no cause the launch is laughable slow
@jamcamrailfanning it's literally going to feel like thunderbirds launch
Why does B&M have to re-name every element when it's on a wing coaster. 'Wing over turn'? It's just a turn get over yourselves, I'm gonna have to start calling that start of blue fire a wing over turn after this
That's more park marketing than anything
child's play.
Even with a generous 60s cycle, just 1200 people an hour. Not that this park seems to bring in the crowds anymore but still we all know they will struggle to hit their minimum interval
Edit: I think the ride looks great and I’m excited to try it, but as a ride operator myself it frustrates me when a park builds an attraction that has inherently bad throughput. It’s hard to push throughput on wing coasters already because of the traffic jam between loading and unloading guests, and smaller trains just add to that
If my experience at KD is anything to go off of, the ops will struggle to hit even 600 riders per hour. . .
Anything over 1,000pph is fine. I imagine this will churn through more people than TT.
@@crashcoaster3852I agree, however between empty seats, ada guests, fast lane, and slow operations, my guess is the standby line won’t move any quicker than 400 pph
@@kryptonaightthis is my point. 60s seems at first glance of the pov to be the interval, but no way they actually hit that. 120s is more reasonable for this park and that cuts the throughput to 600 already
@@andrewhablow when I was at KD they push trains out fairly quick, rarely stack on 2 train ops. The parks with the worst ops in my experience are Cedar Point and Hershey as of late. The worst part about those parks is they run 3 trains and triple stack on every cycle.
