It must have been a terribly hare episode to shoot knowing that CBS pulled the plug on ALL rural shoes (aka- the BEST shows with its infamous "rural purge" including l three spin-off show of thr Beverly Hillbillies. What a shame to disappoint millions of viewers of the influence of ONE tyrant on the network. The other SAS thing was the death of Wendell. I wonder if the cast knew about it before or after they finished filming.
The way they put it was that "Everything with a tree in it was cancelled" I'll never understand the logic in that. They went with "city" shows. I remember as a 12 year old thinking that TV got really crappy then. Shows that you used to look forward to didn't exist anymore. You didn't mind if you missed an episode of the new shows. Maybe they did have a target audience. Petticoat Junction was ranked # 17 in the top 100 still when it was cancelled. The show did suffer with the loss of Kate and then Smiley but it pulled through, and yet it was still cancelled
Imagine killing the two most famous dogs’ show’s of all time. Cancelling “Lassie”, who obviously played Lassie. Cancelling “Petticoat Junction”, who had Dog, who was played by, Higgins, who played BENJI in the original movie, starting a successful career.
Kenneth. It was Pat Butrum (Mr Haney from PJ abd Green Achres who said that All actifrom those shows were typecast for those roles so none has much luck getting roles once the plug was pulled on them.
