    Research shows that Comprehensible Input (exposure to comprehensible content) is the most effective way to learn a language.
    With Comprehensible Input, we learn the reality of the language by experiencing it. When we listen to interesting and comprehensible stories, our attention is focused on the message rather than on theory and grammar.
    With drawings, gestures and repetition, the stories will be understandable to you. As you listen to Spanish that you understand, you gradually become accustomed to the language and create a mental map of it.
    With Comprehensible Input, you will develop a "feel" for the language in terms of grammar and vocabulary, characteristic of native speakers.
    What does this mean in practice? You will know how to say something, but you won't necessarily know the grammatical rule behind it.

    Hi Kasia. A very good video and explanation. I have a question for you. How many hours did you listen to comprehensible input when you were acquiring Spanish?

    • @OrganicSpanish
      @OrganicSpanish  День тому

      Hi! In my case, it's difficult to say because I was exposed to so many hours of Spanish through my friends, flatmates, and coworkers. At that time, I didn't know anything about Second Language Acquisition, and I didn't attend any courses or watch content that would have allowed me to track the hours. I hope this helps!

    • @Vamos1969
      @Vamos1969 День тому

      @@OrganicSpanish Yes, I understand you. Thinking about it though, you were still acquiring Spanish by being exposed to so much of it. With being in Spain and surrounded by it, you would have had to practice speaking very early too. No silent period. That wouldn't have gone good if you stayed silent 😂

      @@Vamos1969 Yes :) In my case, I started interacting in Spanish from day one. At first, I only used very simple words and didn’t say much. Gradually, I was able to express more. Even though I began using the language right away, I spent at least the first year listening much more than speaking.

    Hm.. The idea of listening and acquring the language via listening is good but how are you going to learn to construct sentences? Is it not better to learn the concept of Present Perfect in Spansh one time and tell about Past , using this grammar pattern in many situaions? Maybe it makes sense to combine acquring and learning.

    Should I be watching comprehensible input with Spanish subtitles on? I find it easier but will that hinder my growth?

    • @marcosreal11
      @marcosreal11 4 місяці тому +2

      If you don’t understand it yet with subtitles off then it will not help you to listen to something that is not comprehensible. Keep the subtitles on but focus more and more on the audio until you aren’t reading the subtitles very much. Like training wheels.

    • @OrganicSpanish
      @OrganicSpanish  4 місяці тому +1

      In general, reading (including subtitles) is not recommended in the beginner stages. At the beginning, you have to get used to the sounds of the language, therefore it is better to focus on listening. Later, when you are familiar with the sounds of the language, you can start reading. Reading too early, when we don't know the sounds of the language, can have a negative effect on pronunciation. I hope this answer helps you 🙂

    So how long should it take for me to learn Spanish?

    • @OrganicSpanish
      @OrganicSpanish  4 місяці тому +1

      It depends on many factors. First of all, it depends on the hours of exposure ( one should not count the years, but the actual hours of exposure to the language and interaction in the language). It also depends on whether you participate in classes or learn on your own. With classes using Comprehensible Input and Storytelling it is possible to reach an intermediate level after about 100 hours (with traditional teaching it takes about 400-600 hours). I hope this answer helps you 🙂

    A waste of 13 minutes of my time. Comprehensible input has been discovered decades ago. You did not add a gram of new information.
    Your English needs work. Not “exposition”, but “exposure”. You speak like a robot in English. Your Spanish is amazing. You did an great job learning languages.
    Hope this comment won’t offend you, but instead will help you ficus on improving. Maybe find and show a new fun way of comprehensible input. Or what you did or how you learned.
    And remember babies learn over 3 years of 24/7 exposure. People don’t have that luxury. I can’t move to Mexico and live there for 3 years.
    Thank you.

Everyone I've seen adopt this method never progresses beyond an A2 level, with poor grammar, even after many years. You get good at what you practice, and you need a mixture of everything to succeed. Learning the subjunctive for example, just by listening to it like a baby, when you are 30/40/50,please tell me how you will do that with all its nuances and triggers?
