    Mark Larkham raced in late 90,s early 2000,s, he has a lot of knowledge, Dick Johnson used to say ''to finish first, first you Must finish!''. It is 161 laps, 1000kms, the last 20 or so laps gets really interesting, desperate measures to try and win the BIG one, Bathurst is THE BIGGEST race in the Southern Hemisphere!!

    Just watched another Bathust race. It is truly the worlds best car race. It is hours of drivers driving at 95% effort but being 100% consistent, then in the last 20 laps it is madness of drivers driving at 120% of their and their cars ability, putting absolutely everything on the line and just going for it. It is a race where every year something unexpected and strange happens, today it was an echidna entering the track causing a safety car. The smallest things put cars out of the race. There is heartbreak, there is incredible excitement and it's all due to the mountain. What a race what a day. Love it.

    The Bathurst 1000 race is the king of Australian sports. There's no weekend like it in this country.
    I've driven around that track many times and what you see on tv does it no justice. It's a really difficult circuit, extremely unforgiving. While driving around at 50kph, I just couldn't imagine doing it at an extra 150kph.
    This circuit commands your respect, and if you don't respect it, you're in trouble.

    G'day Ian.
    Mt Panorama was originally a scenic road, all dirt. Back in the late 1920's, there was an application for a race track at Bathurst, which the local council, at the time, said no to, too noisy, attract the wrong type of people, etc.
    So an application was put in for a " scenic drive" up and down Mt Panorama. The same local council thought that it would bring tourists and their money into the area and agreed to a "tourist track" to be built up and down the mountain. By the time the track was finished the council members had changed (elected by the people of Bathurst) and so much money had been spent, that nothing negative was ever said about it (as far as I know) and "the rest is history". It's amazing what you can find out by talking to the older locals. Love your work.

    One of the things that no-one ever realizes about Bathurst is the height drop in the Esses when you start coming down the mountain. It is a massive drop into each corner, you cannot see the exit of them, hell, you can't even see the apex of the corner most of the time, all at 200k/h... Each corner drops abt 3m or more in height, it is insane even at 60k/h...

    Until you've driven on this public road which becomes a race circuit you cant appreciate the climbs, how narrow the road is on your way to the top of Mt Panorama! The view IS spectacular! Then when you drive at the speed limit through forest elbow imagine going a whole heap faster and trying to turn 1.5 Tonne through those twisty turns, its INSANE!
    Once your through the dipper. Can you imagine 300KLM/HR! down Conrod and into the kink and pushing on the brake so hard to pull that 1.5 T rocket ship up for the corner? Now your back in your everyday drive as you leave the circuit/public road you've done it once, imagine doing that for another 160 laps. All day long, in the heat, the rain the cold.
    I believe THIS is the race that stops a nation! If your heart hasn't got a good strangle hold on your back teeth on race day you aint livin!

    Only small for now but I reckon it's the future of Aussie motorsport.

    Great that you have discovered Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama and Australian touring car racing. Pity you did not see the best of the best. His name was Peter Brock. 9 time winner of Bathurst 1000. He is famous for 1979 win where he won by 6 laps and broke lap record on the last lap, but he won it on 8 other occasions as well . He won the race more than anyone else and was well named as (and still is) the King of the Mountain. It wasn't just how many times he won. It was his style and the ease with which he seemed to do it that put him a cut above everyone else.

      @@dylanzrim3635 yes, exactly true. They decided not to renew his contract for this year, then the fans of Larko and V8 Supercars uproared. Every time a post came up on Facebook regarding Supercars, the fans unloaded on what they thought about the decision to axe him. I reckon, about 96% of the comments on fb were about getting Larko back. After a few months Supercars finally signed him up, lol, and so they bloody should have, as he's an expert commentator upon the technical side of things, whether in regards to the track or anything to do with the cars. I can say I've never seen any other type of motorsport that delves into the technical side of things, like Larko does, and plus he can be quite hilarious at times. Finally a sport which had to cave in to what it's fans wanted.

    He explains it well because he is one of the greats of the mountain. A driver. This is the most stiring video in motorsport. IWrocker, you have to come to Australia one year for the Bathurst weekend. Classic cars racing, pro-am racing, GTCup etc. This track is actually a public road, there are houses and farms on it. Seeing the track on the screen is one thing, driving it is another universe. You simply cannot fathom the sheer scale of elevation changes until you see it with your own eyes. Come on down under, Im sure your subsciribers would have plenty of cold ones at the ready. You would have a blast. Also it's terribly pleasing to see Americans appreciating what we have and what we do, down under. America and Australia share an automotive motorsport traditiion and culture that's very close in nature.

  • @rag_man673
    @rag_man673 3 роки тому +7

    For those outside Australia, it's actually a public road, with houses on the side of the track. For one day a year those residents can't leave their homes. The road is a closed circuit. I once rode my motorcycle around at 60kmh (beautiful countryside, and it's hard to take in the view and concentrate on the road), it's hard to believe they can go as fast as they do on that road. The level of skill required, borders on supernatural.
