Having been lucky enough to work for one of the leading teams in this category for a few seasons I can tell you it is the best racing there is. This season is decided at Bathurst November 30th to December the 5 with four TCM races over the six days.
In 1972 a mate and I were on weekend leave from the RAAF and we hitchhiked to Bathurst to watch Peter Brock win the first Bathurst 500 (miles then) in a Holden Torana GTRXU1. Dick Johnson came 2nd. Unforgettable memories, smells, noises...

Amazing that no one remembered this is a smaller slant six.
No it’s a VF and was the last model with the 225 slant six, the next model VG was the first with the Hemi engine but only to 245 ci the first model that used the 265 ci was the all new design, the VH
The 265 Hemi six was only raced in the two door Charger body from 1971 onwards that I have ever seen any reference to. Not counting the secret VF ute development mule for camoflauged testing of the Charger running gear. Geoghan doing the testing said it worked better than the Charger being lighter.

You might be interested to know that in the last 6 years or so... They have released the full Bathurst races on DVD from 1976 to 1996. Really worth watching those early years.
It's always awesome to see American race car drivers hitting Bathurst for the first time. Rossi was one the springs to mind. He was no where near the pace, bout 4 seconds behind.
Ian, Dennis Weaver drove a very similiar car to the Blue Valiant in the Movie "Duel" The dashboard in the Weaver car was identical to a 1968 VE Chrysler Valiant.
I was lucky enough to meet John Bowe and he was the nicest bloke ever. Also the difference between these cars and modern Supercars is if you bend these cars you feel sad for the car more than the driver :-)
Another liked subcategory to the Main V8 Supercars was also the Forgotten V8 Ute Racing Series Holden and Ford going at it Me n dad supported the Jesus Racing Team Hahaha Not 100% sure, but pretty sure.. they used the Factory Motors with limited Mods like Suspension and Exhaust
Loved it, that was awesome and still is. I remember when I was with a mate in a TE Cortina 250 crossflow on a Friday night drive. Pulled into a servo, early 90s and there was an SLR 5000, HQ Monaro and something else, ( didn't get a look because I had to pick my jaw back up) I think it was a 289 Capri and all were car show worthy ,especially the blown torry Those were the days when you just did laps on the Goldy in Surfers Paradise and a lot of other suburbs back then.
God what fun nights back in the 90s. Doing Donuts at the Spit, the car meets opposite Australia Fair in Southport... street racing on Bermuda drive and The Goldy and Pacific Hwys, burn outs in Cavil Ave. Hahahahahah
@@aussieausdeutschland4245 yep. Pulled up beside the Capri. Droped back to 3rd and we're off and winning in 250 crossflow, big 6. Meanwhile, Capri was cruising in 3rd and back to 2cnd gear said see ya. 🤣. Days when we just raced when it was safe to do so of course.
I dated a girl in Bathurst, her 18yo son was a petrol head. Being a local kid he always referred to it as "the mount" not mountain or mount panorama. Just an FYI for you Ian. Hope to hear you use the local terminology in future vids. MORE MASTERS PLEASE. Love this series.
Ian im not really sure if you like the Torana or not lol Funny thing the driver of that car John Bowe was Dick Johnson's team mate and drove the 18 car. That race winner was Stephen Johnson Dicks son and ex DJR lead driver before he retired. That Valliant went from his 6cyl 265 to a V8 later on and was top ten car.
Your pronunciation of "Bathurst" (5min 08sec) is spot on. I worked as a mechanic (77 to 82) with scrutineering after the race carried out at our workshop also as am ambulance officer on the track (82 to 85) and most people, not from Bathurst pronounced it "BathERst" not "BathEst". Bit hard to explain. Cheers.
Great series coverage. At 10:08 the blue car is the Australian built Chrysler Valiant Pacer. More detail on the Pacer story here ; ua-cam.com/video/dv-1x1sPiTk/v-deo.html Always loved how well this underdog car went with its then 225 slant six. Great driver who prepared the car very well to beat so many V8 cars.
I now find the rules allowed him to change to larger hemi six in 245 or 265 spec with triple Weber carbs. Still impressive. Recently may have changed to a V8 to get the win Cameron Tilley deserves.
I watched a video over the weekend, it was called " A LAP WITH DAD, SCOTT MCLAUGHLIN " was really cool, not saying do a react video as it was only 3 minutes long but was a blast, check it out if you get a chance, you could see how proud his dad was of creating one of this era's best drivers... now taking on Indy car with rookie of the year. Legend. Cheers mate👍
Great vid as always. Just to clarify the link between the people shown at the end. Steve Johnson (driving the mustang) is Dick Johnson's son. He beat John Bowe (driving the torana. John is also (I think) Dick's longest serving teammate and drove for Dick Johnson Racing for many years. The lady on the right of shot is Jill, Dick's wife who actually financed a lot of his early motor racing pursuits and the young bloke giving you the thumbs up is Jett, Steve's son and Dicks grandson. He is also quite a good steerer himself. There you go, Aussie motorsports royal family. Haha.
@@craigbennett4963 Sometimes the older stuff is better than the newer stuff. We've probably all owned a GTS Monaro or a GT Falcon we wished we'd held onto. :)
Glad you like what we have on offer in Australia... You need to go to Bathurst one day and check out The Mountain... Television flattens it out... It is so much steeper than it looks on TV... You would be even more impressed of how fast these cars and drivers are... It is mind blowing.
Ian, it takes a brave man with very large nut's to do what these driver's do, the camera can't do Bathurst justice, it is way steeper than it looks. It is one heck of a place especially across the top, and it's virtually blind up there for the driver's and then in the wet you can only imagine how that would be. Another great video Ian. And that Blue car was a valiant pacer, they were basically a Chrysler.
IWrocker , the blue car is a 1972 Plymouth Valiant, with a 6 Cylinder with modified cam and Three Webber Carbs, making close to 500 HP. Morgan Sorensen
Love your reaction to the old school supercars , but I hate to break some bad news to you, Ian. This year's Bathurst 1000 won't be held on your birthday, the race has been pushed back to November, unfortunately! Stay safe, mate.
@@bapcorp8303 Yes, there is that. I'm more worried that they might have to shorten the race with a really bad storm, or even call it early. Of course, it's not that we get a bad storm every day, but the likelihood is higher at that time of year.
Oww maaann, so many flashbacks. I used to live in Katoomba (in between Bathurst and Sydney) - the traffic jams on Bathurst weekend were insane. I've also driven around the Bathurst track more than once with my ex in his 6cyl Cortina. 6 cylinders in such a small car is almost as good as an XY V8 (Ford person here in case you missed it - lol).
The other blue vehicle in the paused footage at the end, is Australia's most prized Ford 1971 XY GT HO 351cc phase 3. HO stands for homologated options, a minimum of 500 vehicles needed to be build to qualify for racing, to prevent factory team domination with exclusive specials that privateers couldn't afford. Another vehicle not sold in America was the 1971-74 Holden HQ Monaro GTS 308cc 5.0L. It is the silver car with twin broad orange racing stripes and the rectangular taillights in the bumper bar. Arguably the second most desired Holden after the 1977-79 Torana A9X, a 2 door, fast back version of the red and white, SLR 5000 that John Bowe drove.
Respect to you Ian for your appreciation for these amazing cars. Now that Holden has gone the future will be much emptier and quieter without them. I would love for you to take a HSV Maloo Ute for a spin and then a HSV GTR, you'd have so much freakin fun.
I love that you love this track. The mountain is actually a public road with a 60km speer limit. I mill timber in Bathurst and the mountain is part of the view. The business I work for also sells firewood to campers during race week. Which is in a couple of weeks after being put back because of covid. Also the Big building you see every now and then is a hotel. Its where the wife and I escape to for a weekend away from the kids. You can't make an actual reservation there during race week, you go on a waiting list and if someone from the previous year doen't book a room you advance on the list. Last time I asked it was around $8000 for a standard room for the week.
Awesome to watch these cars going round Bathurst again. I remember when they did it as new cars. I also remember when they had every new street car in the Bathurst 500 miles race. Cars like 4 cylinder Ford cortinas, Volkswagen beetles, minis etc. Wonderful memories. Thank you.
I recommend looking up the 2016 Bathurst race. It was the greatest Touring Car Masters race of all time. They put together 50 Muscle Cars between the australians and the "Central Muscle Cars" of New Zealand.
Just watched this and glad you love our racing here and that Blue Chrysler in NOW this year 2022 running a V8 and yes this is a regular yearly series run down here glad you like it
Touring car Masters run on he same weekend as the Bathurst 1000. Also that same weekend there is the Ute's which has now turned into the twin cab 4x4 Ute's, Carrera cup, TCR racing, miniature race cars which are insane and worth a watch.
Hi wirocker Ian I’m watching your reviews from a small town in Western Australia outback called Caiguna the town consists Roadhouse pub motel Great reviews
Those cars raced in the old hardie ferodo Bathurst and other tracks... lot of clips in black and white from late 60s early 70s. The blue car.. Aussie valiant... 6 cylinder.. plymouth valiant or dodge dart... dad had 1 in the day with fireball 318... 4 door. Remember sitting on his lap "driving" .... this racing is about all I watch now
Sorry do realise I’m way behind on the comments but not long found ur channel! Love hearing Americans lose it at how crazy some of the racing here is. Especially with Historical or Touring Car Masters and even most of the Supercar drivers but especially masters a lot of respect for the cars, drivers and racing room without not heaps of rubbing or comprising much in the older cars as u said being so old lots of respect and going bloody hard still!!!!! Keep ‘em up hope a lot of other Aussies have put u onto some really good races ect
Ford Mustang, Holden Torana, Chevrolet Camaro, the two boxy red/black and green/black cars are Australian Ford Falcons, that specific model Falcon from 1971 was at the time the world's second fastest four-door car (behind the Mercedes-AMG 300 SEL 6.8). Those Falcons are powered by the Cleveland 351ci V8. The large red hardtop coupe with the large "hips" around the rear wheels is a later model Ford Falcon, about 1974. Another Ford Falcon in white follows, but that's a 1965 American Falcon Sprint, 289ci Windsor V8. Silver car with orange stripes is a Holden Monaro GTS, coupe hardtop version of the Holden Kingswood, Chevrolet 350 small-black V8 engine, compared to the Holden Toranas which are similar ages, Toranas 1974, Monaro 1972. Toranas are powered by the Holden 308 V8. The two boxy looking blue cars, one is a Falcon, the other is Mopar; specifically a Chrysler Valiant Pacer from 1969. They had 225ci Hemi 6 engines at the time, this one has been updated to a V8 engine under modern rules. The Valiant was related to the Dodge Dart. The series also features IROC-style Porsche 911s, British Ford Capris which were sold in South Africa with a 302ci Windsor V8 called the Capri Perana, Chevrolet Monza (350ci), Pontiac Firebird (Chev 350ci), Chrysler Valiant Charger (265ci I6 or 340ci V8), AMC Javelin (which was forced to run a Mopar V8), Holden SS (308/350ci V8), and Mercury Comet (289/302 V8). Smaller cars like the Ford Escort RS1600 GT, Datsun 1600 (P510 series) and the Alfa Romeo GTAm have also appeared on occasion. Holden Commodore (Holden 308ci V8) has since been added to the series.
I know someone here in the UK with a straight 6 and a V8 aussie charger . He said they often used a six on track as they handled better due to being lighter . Also made nearly as much power
Hey Ian. If you want to watch similar to this, check out the Bathurst 12 hour in February. All classes on the track at the same time. Also any Bathurst 1000 before 1985. All touring cars covering all classes.
These cars are all old chassis’ but the engines are fresh and most would be running upwards of 600-700bhp. The Jesus Racing Falcon was at 750bhp for this series from a 351 Cleaveland V8. I grew up in Bathurst and while I preferred the production touring cars and GT3s over the V8s, going back to watch these things slide around the track is magical.
The blue car is a Chrysler Valliant Pacer. Very similar to your Dodge Dart. It came with a 265cu hemi straight six with triple side draught carbs. With modern parts, the one in this race is putting out about 700hp.
You can watch these card racing at Bathurst, if you search for Bathurst and the year say 1970-1978, you should be able to find clips with these cars actually racing on the Mountain. As the race goes for over 6 hours, even yesterdays went for over 6 1/4 hrs, you probably want to see if you can find a DVD of the old Races.
Mate, you need to watch some of the races from the late 70 and early 80s. These cars were new and just the ducks guts! The in car filming was first developed for just this purpose! Absolutely epic racing battles even if the video quality and sound quality isn't a pinch on today's quality it was absolutely fascinating! A great time to be growing up. Bathurst raceday I had to hide the car keys!
AHA! Elkhart Lake. I knew that accent was Sconsie ;) I went to a Boy Scout Jamboree there one year. I did NOT appreciate it enough, not really understanding what it was. We DID hike around the whole thing tho. Sadly, I missed the race car demos. I've played it so much in race sims that I can just drive it in my head LOL.
Ian, haven't read all the comments, but, you need to make the effort and experience a Bathurst 1000 weekend. After watching this race on TV for 50 plus years I finally attended the event in 2019. I was totally gobsmacked of this venue. TV doesn't do it justice. One amazing racetrack.
Thanks for presenting this and other Aussie Racing. I've been following the races since the 60's. More recent 'Super Cars" ' don't relate anymore because the cars have not been available new for like, 4 years, keep enjoying tho. Regards, Dave C
Hey Ian , I enjoy watching your commentary on the historic’s, Lots of fun mate ! The blue pacer You were talking about is an earlier version of the mopar dart GT you had in the States around 1967-69 I’m personally building an SLR 5000 At present, I also import US mussel Into Auz when the $ is good match .
Bathurst is ~a few hundred km from Sydney over what passes for a mountain range here, & back in the day, a pretty basic winding road. We locals reckoned the cameras would be far better placed on that road coming back after the race.
Been to Bathurst four times they sound awesome going over the top of the mountain even got to drive around there myself in my own car that blue car was a valiant hope you get to go there yourself one day Ian
70's and 80's touring car racing was the pinnacle of Australian motorsport, prior to intrusive regulations and efforts to create a two brand parody style racing in 1992.
Yeah, NBL is the National Basketball League. Lamelo Ball played in the NBL for a season. Josh Giddey, 6th pick in the last NBA draft, also played in the NBL.
As an Aussie motorhead racer thats been racing over 30 years, Drags mainly but anything on 4 wheels, including dirt, Bathurst is the most amazing event on the planet. Todays was no different... Where in the world has another track that is wet at some points and dry in others, wet tyres or slicks? pay the price for either choice lol. Had Torana's and Falcons, my race car for the last 20 years is a 1969 GTHO. Most sort after car that was ever produced in Australia, fetching as much as $1,000,000 Australian at auction . Sadly now we no longer have any car manufacturers in this country. Today marks the last Bathurst event that Holden will ever represent group 1 racing. Adelaide's street circuit in December this year will be the last event for Holden, as an Aussie Blue blood through and through, it's a sad time for us
This December is Bathurst, and Super cars, masters, hq Holden's, and sports modified old race cars over 7 days will be unreal week of racing alsoporches lambos everything
There're also similar series in NZ and the UK, too. You'r actually in for a treat, as you can find most of the Bathurst races from back in the day, when many of these cars were originally racing.
These old cars are dappa The real deal hard nosed beasts. Aussie and Emerican muscle together banging out the laps. At all the Iconic Aussie race tracks my fav out of these is the Torana GTR XU1 And if theres one in this feild the Torana Lh A9X.
When I was a little boy my uncle owned a car yard, and one day I saw this car with its hutch opened with a tent that attached to the back of the car. And I thought it was the coolest shit ever so I asked my uncle what car it was and he said, Torana mate. And all day I just sat saying over and over to myself, torana, torana, torana. I ended up with a 4 door slr 5000 with all the flares rollcage drop tank, blue with black bonnet. I loved that thing. Would get nervous just walking out to go for a drive. Greatest car ever made by man.
See if you can have a look at the F1 car racing around Bathurst - it was Jensen Button driving the Vodafone McLaren I think. He wasn’t raging the heck out of the thing but did a 1:30 or so.
See the thing is being Australian - mustangs, Camaros and corvettes where exotic whereas Toranas, chargers and falcon hardtops and even GTHO’S were relatively common in the 70’s. Not now of course but living in Canberra when the Summernats are on seeing those late 70’s American muscle cars still turns my head. Seeing a black 69 Mustang parked outside the Canberra centre is awesome.

I forgot to add Ian, when the CART(ChampCar) series was here on the Gold Coast every driver from the series said that there is no better spot to watch the racing then here in Australia due to the variety that was made up over the weekend(back then it was the Supercars, V8 Utes, the classics as well as ChampCar), When CART was purchased by IndyCar they said the feasibility of bringing the teams to Australia was to much so they stopped coming but the Aussie Supercars stayed.
NBL is our top Basketball league in Australia. Lamelo ball who won rookie of the year in the NBA last season also won rookie of the year in the NBL a year prior.
The blue car was a Chrysler VF Valiant Pacer, I owned one back in 1984, with a Blue Diamond 245 slant 6 (not the red 225 slant), it went like the powers of piss, I wish now I had've kept it.
They never had a 245 slant six 225 was the biggest unless someone bored or stroked it! And if you had a 245 it must have been the 245 Hemi in a VG model and they’re not a slant
Phillip island. That's where I live. I worked at the 2010 moto GP. Not the biggest motor sport fan but seeing those guys do what they do in person it's very impressive. The speed is unbelievable and they are very talented. There are classic car events and other events at the track very regularly.
And 10th place was the fastest Aussie car- the Valiant. But we're not supposed to remind them when Holden or Ford don't win- like 1985 when the big V12 XJS showed them up.
TCM is classic shells, chassis' and engines with modern running gear, suspension, brakes, tyres and some composite body panels to keep spare panels available. The Valiant Pacer had a V8 thrown at it a couple of years ago and they couldn't find a prop shaft that wouldn't snap. The series has become a bit of an arms race in the last couple of years with some 80s cars allowed in and cost starting to sky-rocket.
IWrocker, you've probably already seen it, but if not, you need to check out Aussie Group C racing from the late 70s, early 80s. Watch any Bathurst Hardies Heros top ten shoot-out from that era. Great stuff.
Also, you can buy a brand new Camaro or Mustang body like the ones at the front of the field. Then you buy all the stuff needed to race with, and bingo, a “vintage” race car.
These Old Metal races are purely for the heart. I want to confess this. As much as I respect the mustang for it's role in history, my heart secretly is Chevy. NO matter if it is old muscle, crazy cruisers or trucks. If it is a Chevy, it is mine.

New Zealands version is the central muscle cars series that joined the touring car masters at bathurst in 2019
Loved it, that was awesome and still is. I remember when I was with a mate in a TE Cortina 250 crossflow on a Friday night drive. Pulled into a servo, early 90s and there was an SLR 5000, HQ Monaro and something else, ( didn't get a look because I had to pick my jaw back up) I think it was a 289 Capri and all were car show worthy ,especially the blown torry
Those were the days when you just did laps on the Goldy in Surfers Paradise and a lot of other suburbs back then.
@@jeffwagner8576 yeah 2 fiddy Sporty Cortys... love em, that was my weapon pf choice in the 90s too.
Touring Car Masters should be a world wide series. Every country has brilliant old drivers & brilliant old cars.
Cheers.
You should definitely take a look at some 90s to early 2000s touring car championships. They bang doors in saloons, FWDs, I think you'd love that.
Great series coverage.
At 10:08 the blue car is the Australian built Chrysler Valiant Pacer.
More detail on the Pacer story here ;
ua-cam.com/video/dv-1x1sPiTk/v-deo.html
Always loved how well this underdog car went with its then 225 slant six. Great driver who prepared the car very well to beat so many V8 cars.
I now find the rules allowed him to change to larger hemi six in 245 or 265 spec with triple Weber carbs.
Still impressive.
Recently may have changed to a V8 to get the win Cameron Tilley deserves.
That slant six is legendary, especially in the hands of tilly
Looks like a VJ???? not sure. But I do know that chrysler never made a valiant VD ;)
@@johnmurray587 The link to the Shannons car history shows the body is a VF. Yes a few V codes skipped as did Holden.
That video is on my list
@@IWrocker Oh and a huge congratulations on 30,000 subs mate... you're a Legend 👍
Haha.
The blue car you mentioned looked like an old Valiant to me. They became Chrysler. We called the old Valiants "mafia staff cars"
It was a Chrysler Valiant. Sometimes known as Valiant by Chrysler.
Is it not cool to c the younger ones appreciate old school cool
@@craigbennett4963 Sometimes the older stuff is better than the newer stuff. We've probably all owned a GTS Monaro or a GT Falcon we wished we'd held onto. :)
@@the-flatulator wish I still had my 265 VH Charger and VG Regal hardtop- that one had a 265 K12 cop motor in, basically a 2 barrel R/T engine.
@@rossbrumby1957 Yep, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Might be worth a small fortune now.
Yeah, Cam Tilly's 245ci Hemi in line 6. That thing is a hammer. Thanks for posting this for us rev heads to see. You Rock.
The Great race is on December 5th 2021
@@bapcorp8303 Hopefully they wont get a big storm during the race.
@@daveg2104 Let's hope it's a dry race, I'm not looking forward to getting wet
@@bapcorp8303 Yes, there is that. I'm more worried that they might have to shorten the race with a really bad storm, or even call it early. Of course, it's not that we get a bad storm every day, but the likelihood is higher at that time of year.
@@daveg2104 I agree
You can look it up in the motorsports archives. Bathurst 1970's was full of these cars back in their prime.
The blue car was one very Tuff Valiant Pacer, with a 600hp 265ci Hemi inline 6, the same engine used in the Valiant RT Charger.
Awesome to watch these cars going round Bathurst again. I remember when they did it as new cars. I also remember when they had every new street car in the Bathurst 500 miles race. Cars like 4 cylinder Ford cortinas, Volkswagen beetles, minis etc. Wonderful memories. Thank you.
Great to see that Pacer getting plenty of camera time.
Cheers from Australia
I recommend looking up the 2016 Bathurst race. It was the greatest Touring Car Masters race of all time. They put together 50 Muscle Cars between the australians and the "Central Muscle Cars" of New Zealand.
Just watched this and glad you love our racing here and that Blue Chrysler in NOW this year 2022 running a V8 and yes this is a regular yearly series run down here glad you like it
Touring car Masters run on he same weekend as the Bathurst 1000. Also that same weekend there is the Ute's which has now turned into the twin cab 4x4 Ute's,
Carrera cup, TCR racing, miniature race cars which are insane and worth a watch.
Love the TCM, pure muscle.
You could also check out the "Aussie Racing Cars". 1/2 sized cars, 1.3L, I4, 11500rpm rippers.👌🏽
Excellent. Thanks for the memory. A pity you can't join us for the race. Camp up on skyline. Best experience ever.
Hi wirocker Ian I’m watching your reviews from a small town in Western Australia outback called Caiguna the town consists Roadhouse pub motel Great reviews
Congrats on 30K cobber 👏👏👏 Love this, real cars from the best era of Aussie motorsports 💪😤

Cheers for this video Ian, great lunch break video for me 👍🏻😊
Those Cars are collector cars and worth a lot of money. Big props to those guys for putting big $$$ on the line to entertain us.
My uncle had a blue Pacer with black strips that he bought new. It was cool but we are a Holden family so he had to move to the bush. 🦁
You need to see this live. The sounds and smells are like going back in time.
I'm a bit late to the party but that was awesome. Good to see some of the older cars racing and putting on a great show.
The six pack 265's made more power than any of the V8's that were available in aussie valiants.
I knew that accent was Sconsie ;)
I went to a Boy Scout Jamboree there one year.
More recent 'Super Cars"
' don't relate anymore because the cars have not been available new for like, 4 years, keep enjoying tho. Regards, Dave C
Hey Ian , I enjoy watching your commentary on the historic’s,
Lots of fun mate ! The blue pacer
You were talking about is an earlier version of the mopar dart GT you had in the States around 1967-69
I’m personally building an SLR 5000
At present, I also import US mussel
Into Auz when the $ is good match .
Have seen a few 12h Bathurst races, never failed to be amazing. Love old cars and I understand why they are so awesome!
Throughly enjoyed that thx Ian 👍🏼.
If you want to see so crazy motorsports like you won’t see anywhere else check out the New Zealand stock car teams champs. You will love it
70's and 80's touring car racing was the pinnacle of Australian motorsport, prior to intrusive regulations and efforts to create a two brand parody style racing in 1992.
Yeah, NBL is the National Basketball League.
Lamelo Ball played in the NBL for a season. Josh Giddey, 6th pick in the last NBA draft, also played in the NBL.
The Historic Trans-Am series is showing about 7 races on it's 2023 schedule, mostly in California.
The green and yellow Mustang at the front is the son of our favourite son Dicky Johnson .
The Bathurst track its a road circuit, 6cyl 265ci Hemi 4 door sedan VG 1974 probably running a 6 pack set up with triple 2 barrel Webber carbs 😋
There're also similar series in NZ and the UK, too.
You'r actually in for a treat, as you can find most of the Bathurst races from back in the day, when many of these cars were originally racing.
A good race was at Bathurst when FORD come first and second in the 2 door Ford Falcons.
Just an epic finish.
That blue car is a Chrysler Valiant Pacer. Most likely powered by a 265 hemi inline 6 with 3 weber carbs hanging off the side.
The Glennan Transport blue car Ian is the Valliant Pacer which was an Aussie wing of Chrysler Australia that ran from 1962 to 1981.
Although the Pacer started in 1969 with this VF 225 slant six original Pacer unless an engine upgrade is allowed. So even more impressive.
Shannon's detail here ;
ua-cam.com/video/dv-1x1sPiTk/v-deo.html
Common confusion of the first slant six Pacer and the next model hemi powered ones.
It seems an engine upgrade was allowed to the 265 Hemi E49.
Still impressive.
In 1966 the Bathurst 1000 (km)/ 500 (mi) was called the Gallaher 500, and the Mini Cooper S took the top 9 places.
And 10th place was the fastest Aussie car- the Valiant. But we're not supposed to remind them when Holden or Ford don't win- like 1985 when the big V12 XJS showed them up.
Very regular series I was just at a track today called Lakeside and 1 was testing there, bloody loud and quick, and all run the same 6 litre LS engine
It is fun some of these did 161 laps of this track that valiant now has v8 but definitely was power 265 hemi
Love your work from South Australia
The SVRA does a lot of racing with the actual Trans-Am series cars from the first hey-day of the series. They also do the current T/A series.
Also, you can buy a brand new Camaro or Mustang body like the ones at the front of the field. Then you buy all the stuff needed to race with, and bingo, a “vintage” race car.
You'd love the Summernats!
These Old Metal races are purely for the heart. I want to confess this. As much as I respect the mustang for it's role in history, my heart secretly is Chevy. NO matter if it is old muscle, crazy cruisers or trucks. If it is a Chevy, it is mine.
