Hi. Great video. Just one quick question if I may? Using a Gopro Hero 10, what is the correct Media Mod setting for the Rode Wireless Go 2 - is it a powered mic or standard mic? Many thanks for your help.
Yes, I've tried it with the GoPro. You can see it when shooting in wide and ultrawide. Less of a problem when shooting linear. If using furry windscreen, it's totally in the frame.
For me, if you are recording with your phone or a small camera like the GoPro the Video Micro is still a winner. Most untrained ears will not be able to hear the difference considering the compression introduced by UA-cam. Also, the micro is far less obnoxious and less likely to appear in the frame. I'm saving my money!
I agree with you... I can't listen to great different quality audio between Go II x Micro, which is the same sound... the unique difference is USB. I prefer to save my money also
It depends on how noisy and busy the convention is, but you definitely want the mic as close to the subject's mouth as possible. I'd do the Rode Wireless Go 2 with one transmitter on a grip that you can hold in front of your subject.
The NTG sounds the best it has the best upper midrange nclarity but the difference in clarity isn't big and if you edit videos you can get a little more clarity from the Go II microphone by boosting the upper mid-high frequency a bit.
@@Gemini_Connectgot it. Thanks! I think an audio test comparing the camera's onboard mic set at a manual setting (for example, 15 in the settings) with the videomic at the exact same manual setting would be helpful. I feel like then I would know the difference when the camera's preamp is fixed and not adjusted automatically according to the mic that's plugged in.
I just bought the NTG too, lol(but for studio work)! I saw Rode's advertisement yesterday. The Go II is definitely better than the first one. Tempted to get this one for vlogging.
The audio quality is great for vlogging. I just wonder about the dead cat windscreen -- hopefully it is not too bulky and does not dip into the camera view of wide angle lenses.
I couldn't help but notice at 0:55 how big the go pro hero 10 with the media mod looks like, its almost the size of the sony zve10 thats pretty insane to me! still rocking my hero 7 but that subscription service got me wondering
Appreciate the different voice on the review. I've had the VMP Pro+ for a few years. I'm wondering when that mic will be obsolete or at least when the Video Micro II or III will offer superior audio. The size of the VMP Pro+ does get in the way at times, and in theory these new mics will have better circuitry. Very Interesting. Also looking forward to the comparisons with the similar Deity mics.
It's very interesting that Rode hasn't discontinued the VMP+ because it feels like they replaced it with the VideoMic NTG. Same with the VideoMicro. The Go II feels like a replacement, even though it is definitely bigger.
I know I am a little late to this video so hopefully you see this still. Just ordered GoPro Hero 10 wanting a mic to accompany it. I can use my Rode Wireless Go I'm sure, but would also like to add a shotgun mic to the kit. The Go II seems preferable but concerned with the length getting into the shot on a GoPro, any insight you can provide on that front? Thanks
Any tips for keeping the dead cat out of the frame when the Rode video micro is attached to go pro for vlogging? I've had several occasions where my dead cat is peaking into the top of my frame making my footage nearly unusable.
Cutting the extra fur on one side of the dead cat with a pair of scissors. It helps but I still get some unusable shots from my iPhone widelens footage.
Man, just bought ZV 1 and VideoMicro and I quite don't like the "high pitch" sound of it. Don't know if it's the 100hz limit that it has, but it sound kinda cold or distant. Probably gona get that GO2. Sounded better imo. Great video and comparison!!
I'm very happy with my Rode VideoMicro, but if I were to get a new vlogging/backup microphone, I'd consider the VideoMic Go II. Doing away with buttons and switches on the unit and using an app to configure the mic is fantastic idea. BTW, according to the Rode website, it only comes with the TRS audio cable. That is a bit disappointing, but perhaps understandable for the budget price. It would require a Rode SC-15 cable to connect it to an iPhone that has a Lightning connector and an SC-16 or other USB-C to USB-C cable to connect it to a phone that has a USB-C connector or to a computer.
The Deity Duo serves a different function of being able to clearly film audio in front of or behind your camera. If you need a mic that does that, the Deity is best. This Rode is best at mainly picking up audio in front of the camera, not behind it.
I clicked on this video because I'm interested in seeing how the VideoMic Go II performs with a GoPro. Your thumbnail shows that mic on a GoPro. But in the video, you don't show or test out the mic with a GoPro.
Thanks for the review. I have placed a pre-order for this Videomic Go II as it seems to set a new standard... I listened to the samples a number of times. I was a bit surprised by the NTG. Was the High Pass Filter not activated by any chance? It sounded quite like the Videomicro which cuts sound below 100 Hz by default. Maybe it is because of your voice characteristics that, I liked the rather bassy Videomic Pro Plus the best, maybe that boost in the low-end helped.
sorry for the dumb question but Im new to all this, can anyone tell me what the purpose of the foam cover is? I see pics of the go 2 with and without the foam piece.
I am interested in Sennheiser MKE 200, but after looking reviews on UA-cam, they seem t have quite polarised views, either they like or they don't like. I would like its small form factor, and seems very much suitable for small cameras like GoPro, or MFT cameras,, Would you do a review on Sennheiser MKE 200?
I've also heard very polarizing views on this mic. But the negative points seem to be override consistent. I would skip this one and get a Rode instead. I've owned and used 9 different Rode mics and have never been disappointed.
I will be sticking with my pro+ but the size is so compelling for mobile devices that have decent in camera pre-amps that don't need the +20 so zoom calls and tiktoks and Vlogging are covered with this tiny mic! when u need to dial it in the bigger Mics are my go to
Thank you for your video, I love your videos and they are very helpful, great job! In my opinion, I like the new Go II more than the NTG, 'cause NTG is too big, and Go II is definitely better than VideoMicro, it is very obvious that it eliminates the background noises way better than the Micro.
Good question. I'm guessing it's the way they are engineered. I feel like newer shotgun mics are coming without the need for batteries, which is a good trend.
Would like to test the NEW Rode Mic Go 2 with app. You can purchase MOVO VXR10-PRO that's very similar and has won many shootout test for $50 but it doesn't offer app controls. Wondering how effective the app is? Thank you for the comparison testing 🙏
The Rode app is very effective if you need to use any of the settings. Besides settings, another advantage of the Rode is being able to use it with a computer.
@@Gemini_Connect Video editing on PC will use DaVinci Resolve 17. Looking for better recording audio in loud outdoor environments using a compact microphone. S21 Ultra with gain set at -12 was still too hot/sensitive with all mic covers and dead cat. Haven't found an android app that adjust audio in settings. So this caught my attention. Thanks for reply. 🙏
Thanks for the review. I looked into rode microphones after your last review, and they're high quality Australian microphones. P.s. a "furry windscreen" is referred to as a "dead cat" ;).
That's a great mic too, but I find it is not the best in windy conditions. But the Deity is unique because it can capture audio from the front and back -- none of Rode's mics can do that.
I would urge to be care-full with saying that something is "the best" for something. In this case "best mic for computer" that statement is highly debatable. Disregarding SM7B or any selection of other pro audio mics would be unwise
Sony's built in mic is actually quite good. Personally, I thought Rode sounded better (not by a big margin), and I like the flexibility of being able to use the Rode with other devices if needed.
Great u did the sound from behind the mic, no other reviewers did that thank u

Does the VideoMic Go II go in the way of the GoPro lenses?
HI! I really like your videos! Have you used the Rode VideoMic Go II with the gopro? is it visible in the frame? thanks
Yes, I've tried it with the GoPro. You can see it when shooting in wide and ultrawide. Less of a problem when shooting linear. If using furry windscreen, it's totally in the frame.

What is your tripod in your gopro10? I’m really curious about it as the size looks so great.
Sister, fellow Gemini here: thanks so much for this review. Happy new subscriber here! 💛🙏🏼
Question, which mic would be best for interviews like at a convention? Which Rode product would you recommend for my gopro hero 9?
It depends on how noisy and busy the convention is, but you definitely want the mic as close to the subject's mouth as possible. I'd do the Rode Wireless Go 2 with one transmitter on a grip that you can hold in front of your subject.
@@Gemini_Connect i see. I ended up getting the rode wireless go 2. In doing interviews, i also got the mic adapter as well, to be used as mics.
Thanks for great guides! Can you connect the Go II via usb-c to the Gopro Hero 10 and then use the 3.5mm on the mic for headphone listening?
so this rode mic is basically the ntg without the +20db?
It's a shorter version of the Rode VideoMic NTG without gain control on the mic and safety channel.
By chance do you know if the rode videomic go's deadcat will work on the rode videomic go 2?
Excellent video, many thanks! I was unsure about what the Go II sounds like standing behind the mic and... it sounds good! I'm about to order it 😉
Awesome, I hope you enjoy it!
The NTG sounds the best it has the best upper midrange nclarity but the difference in clarity isn't big and if you edit videos you can get a little more clarity from the Go II microphone by boosting the upper mid-high frequency a bit.
Thank you very much for this review. I am interested in this mic and will look forward to it's arrival in Canada.
Hopefully it arrives soon. Thank you for watching 🙏
Hi I can get the hero 9 for about $125 cheaper than the 10. Both seem fine after their latest updates (v1.6 and v1.20). Which should I get ?
Hero 10. It is far more reliable.
1.- Rode video mic pro plus:
2.- Rode wireless Go
3.- Rode lavalier
Thumbs up!
What manual audio level setting did you have on your ZV-E10 when you had the RODE videomic go II attached? any chance you remember?
Everything on the ZV-E10 was on auto -- did not tweak the audio settings.

@@Gemini_Connect Hopefully the ability to slide the VM Go II back some will help with that! Great review!! :)
@@Tennisfiles it does help some, but the mic can still be a bit too long for some setups (ie ultrawide on the GoPro).

With the Media Mod or GoPro Mic Adapter, yes.

Correct.
