It never bores me to see reactions like this - the jaw dropping when Floor starts to sing, being mesmerized during the whole song and totally oblivious of what’s to come at the end… That’s what we call a Floorgasm.

Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! The 1st song you reacted is from Wacken Open Air (Germany) in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Following the success of Beste Zangers show, Floor performed a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020 with songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers) following that the last and the largest concert, at AFAS Amsterdam, to be professionally recorded and broadcast online, with the support of a crowdfunding campaign. After several rescheduling, due to the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the concert took place at the beginning of September 2021 in 3 consecutive days. Long overdue on this one! Finally hearing this INSANE band!! Her voice!
Now that you have wet your feet, be aware that you have only seen a small part of Floor Jansen's repertoire.
In this song we saw mostly musical theatre Floor with a bit of opera Floor and some contemporary Floor. There's also pop Floor, ballad Floor, heavy metal Floor, classical Floor, liturgical Floor, hard rock Floor, country-ish Floor, Latin-ish Floor, eight different languages Floor, and we must not forget, death metal Floor. I've probably forgot a few . . .

Follow Gabriels list.....nothing can go wrong if you do so. Be careful about choosing other version's then the links he provide. ESPECIALLY when it comes to the epos - The Greatest Show On Earth - . The temptation for a Brit to choose the Wembley performance, is huge. STAY AWAY from Wembley until you have reacted to the Tampere version. The revard for doing that is mindblowing. Floor is the best singer in the world. Technically absolutely high level. She can sing anything. From the highest tones to growling. From metal to pop. What she sings live, the so-called world stars just manage in the studio. Her absolute only problem is that she doesn't have the notoriety she deserves and that she has really earned. She is one of the most down to earth and lovable people on this planet. She also delights her fans every week on her own youtube channel (Floor Jansen).

@@GOTGames There is one exception that _might_ cause a copyright issue, and that's "Poet and the Pendulum". Apparently, some rapper uses the same poem as the basis for one of his songs, and because of that similarity, some reactions to Nightwish's "Poet" got blocked in the past... It absolutely is a song you do need to listen to, but not right away anyways since it requires a good bit of background to fully understand.

Great reaction. Bro that is exactly how I reacted the first time I saw NW. I instantly fell in love with Floor and just got so hyped up watching the band just going nuts and just how tight they play. I remember telling myself when Floor started singing that this shouldn’t work, but it just fit so well that I couldn’t wait to hear another song. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. @@GOTGames Floor Jansen was in a band called After Forever from the time she was sixteen years old. They eventually broke up (very sad, they were good on stage) and she eventually formed a new band, Revamp. She broke that band up when she joined Nightwish because she would not be able to focus on both bands with any sort of stability (or maybe she thought the quality of the music would be unsustainable; either way, sad, but a smart move).
She has AT LEAST two songs she growls in for Revamp and they are Disdain (doesn't matter which version you pick to watch, you can clearly hear her growls because she is the only vocalist doing anything while she is growling) and Wildcard.
For Nightwish, there is a song that she growls in called Yours Is An Empty Hope (in some versions, it's really difficult to make out that SHE is growling and not the band's bassist Marko. In other versions, it is 'easier' to hear it).

I LOVE watching people's first reaction to Nightwish because I did the exact same thing that you did. First time I heard them was this song and I just sat there with my jaw dropped the entire song, then went nuts after it finished. They are now my #1 band. I recommend Poet and the Pendulum, Romanticide, Shoemaker (has operatic vocals), Greatest Show on Earth...just all their songs actually lol. Enjoy this wonderful rabbit hole!

welcome (back) to the fantastic symphonic metal universe of Nightwish Band, their live performances are some of the things that come so close to epic that they get to be mythical and of course Floor Jansen, queen of the stage and goddess of music, she can sing anything in any musical style she wants (WARNING! her voice, her stage presence, her charisma, in one word: her "spell" is highly addictive).
this concert (wacken 2013) is incredibly epic and deserves to be watched and reacted entirely, song by song, in particular I suggest these three songs: "song of myself", "storytime" and "ever dream"
this performance of "ghost love score" is one of the three best performances of the nightwish band, together with "the poet and the pendulum" from 2015 concert at the london wembley arena and "the greatest show on earth" from 2015 concert in tampere - finland (actually there is a fourth best performance: "dead boy's poem" from the 2018 concert in buenos aires).

This is the song that got me watching music reacts. If there was ever a song you wish you could hear for the first time again. I've seen them in concert several times. One of the best. If you want more like this, I recommend Epica, another band with a trained opera singer. Their live performance of Consign to Oblivion is divine.

Floor is their 3rd female singer and yes her stage presence is phenomenal, in fact they all have great stage presence and they all get on so well you can see them having a blast! A great one for Floors showmanship is 'i want my tears back' live in Buenos Aires. Be warned, your eyes may bug out when you see her outfit!

What a terrific first-time reaction to this glorious band and to the Nightwish Army's Valkyrie Queen, the lovely and talented Floor Jansen. Nightwish kills their live performances. Every song at this Wacken 2013 concert is amazing. Some of the harder ones are Romanticide and Weak Fantasy. I also recommend you hear Floor doing the deep growling in every chorus of "Yours is an Empty Hope" live at Wembley 2015. To watch Floor drive an audience into an insane FRENZY, watch "I Want my Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2019. Enjoy your journey down the Nightwish rabbit hole.

Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best and most versatile female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+).
Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today.
The other vocalists are -
Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals.
Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals.
Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera.
The other band members are/were -
Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland)
Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland)

Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. She is also an absolutely lovely, funny, smart and grounded person (in fact all the band members are exceedingly down to earth individuals). She has her own channel here on UA-cam where she regularly posts covers of songs.
The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen.
The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is EXTREMELY varied.
The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set.
Nighwish are almost always better experienced with live versions of their songs if at all possible.
Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb.
Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Romanticide, Storytime, Ever Dream, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken).
Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance.
Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version.
Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way.

Ah, Nightwish! I believe I started to listen to them when I was some 11 years old (and now I'm 30 and feeling old). The band was formed in Finland, and still many of the members are from here, some have never changed since they started in 1996. Their vocalist has changed three times, and I must say Floor (she's the singer now) is one hell of a powerful person. I recommend Storytime live, I believe one is from Wacken as well, that's one of my favorites from them!

K Quincy Her name is Floor Jansen not Jenson. Floor Jansen is Dutch and 'Jansen' is a very common name in The Netherlands. You misspell her name by spelling it like a Scandiavian name.

Great to have you become part of the nightwish army. Gabriel will fill you in on all things nightwish, kind of the main nightwish ambassador. A couple of songs I can recomend next are "wish I had an angel" and "the greatest show on earth". Both feature the vocals of the bands then bassist, Marco, who is equally as mind blowing on the mic.
Mine reaction to Nightwish was similar. I spent whole night watching them performing. They have so many great songs

Your reaction is the same as mine some years back! This band has a sound all its own and immediately loved it. Their compositions are very versatile, from heavy metal to balads and grandiose masterpieces to celtic vibe. You will soon find out if you stick with Nightwish they will surprise you with every song. This oerformance was nr 13 of 15 songs in front of 82.000 people and I haven’t heard a mistake from any band member, just as Floor did not miss a note. Insane! Deep respect for their professionalism. I subbed cause I want to follow your journey into their catalogue. I loved your reaction cause it’s better to show your feelings if words fail you. I mean it’s video, right?
Led Zeppelin, Rush, The Who, Pink Floyd.....It would be hard to convince these ears that Nightwish is any less a group musically. 1A....there is another....1B - THERION-2 greatest musical acts ever. Floor could very well be our species alpha...of all time.
