Ubisoft trying to normalize locking entire quests behind pre-order bonuses and editions that are at least $40 more than the $70 base game on top of requiring online connection to install the game even for physical editions should be the bigger discussion.

How profound. I must contemplate this truth further.
Actually the main reason is cuz of the fact the game features a black man, who was a samurai, who is historivally known as one. I expected better research out of you yong

Lets just find something to complain about. We all know that Ubisoft has never been historically accurate but lets act as if they always were. But its so funny how that Netflix Yasuke Amine came out a in 2021 and now people are talking about it because AC Shadows? the F* is wrong with yall! People are so out of touch yall will just reach for anything anything to complain about.

I can't wait for people to buy the game, complain how expensive it is, play it and then be disappointed and say ubisoft bad. It's Ubisoft, it's AC - what do you expect? Last couple of games were the same bs, same problems, everything same, different setting. I have not bought a Ubisoft game for years now, and i do not intend to. I always wanted AC in Japan, but i will simply not support this company. If you buy it and complain about everything, they still got your money and do not care about what you have to say. Money is the only thing companies care about. If you want things to change - don't spend money. If you spend money and complain - noone cares. Also, if buying isn’t owning then pirating isn’t stealing. :)
I’m not surprised about this. Ubisoft will always say “it’s optional” to justify the high price point when locking basic stuff behind a paywall.
Dude... they DON'T want you to buy their games. This is why their pricing is so stupid and they lock things like this behind highest tier/pre-orders. They do it to make their Uplay subscription look like a good deal (because you get access to full game with all bonuses). They hope you will get it to play X and keep paying either because you miss the cancelation date or due to the fact that they release something else in next 2-3 months.
And some people who are racist are angry of a black samurai that actully exist these people better not tell me we don't have racism issues especially when stuff like this happens distracting us form ubisoft business practices
@@USSAnimeNCC- Your racism and ignorance is showing. It's all fun and games until during black history month they make an AC game about the American civil war with a Chinese protagonist and claim ownership of slavery because the Chinese guy was oppressed similarly. Yes Chinese ppl existed in the USA during both the American Civil war and American revolution. I don't see Americans clamoring to have that represented to appeal to a modern Chinese audience for more sales. Having some understanding of the context of the situation is pretty important. Just because you don't care about Asian history during Asian Heritage month doesn't mean you get to call ppl racist because they picked a black person because they're black; over an Asian person because they're Asian; to push western values about racism and get more sales in the west. The irony of articles in the west saying there are too many games about Samurai with Asian men. Guess Asian representation doesn't matter because if ppl understood the relevancy of the Sengoku period maybe they'd understand the issue at hand. It's so underrepresented in the west that the mainstream just think it's a game about a black guy set in the past of Japan without thinking of WHY it's upsetting and the implications of it. The example I wrote above about the American Civil war is the ridiculous equivalence of it. Nobody batted an eye when Afro Samurai, Fury or Nioh came out for a reason but will point it out to defend AC shadow when they don't want to look at the differences in the situation. People are fine with foreign samurai and think black samurai are cool. But keep districting the issues at hand and blaming racism or saying AC was never about historical accuracy like AC odyssey is the same as Immortal Fenix Rising or God of War. I don't think anyone who isn't racist would care if they made the game completely different as a Spin-off or spiritual successor to Immortal Fenix Rising and call it Samurai Yosuke Shadows but within this context they do.
@@USSAnimeNCC- they may be like 0.1% that complains about Yusuke because they are racist. If you are black TODAY in Japan people turn heads when they see you. And Ubisoft in game about ASSASINS gives as a playable character someone that would be recognized in an instant. Being an asian man, why not address the elephant in the room? Asian males in video game and other entertainment media are already underrepresented. Past AC games had always featured protagonists native to the setting or culture. Now ubisoft has an opportunity to introduce the series' first asian male protagonist and suddenly they want swap to a black player character? You're betraying your fellow asian gamers by failing to call them out for this.
“Past AC games had always featured protagonists native to the setting or culture”
Remember when we played as a white Italian man in Constantinople and no one cared? You’d remember if you actually played these games but you clearly don’t.
And Asians may be underrepresented in films but that is NOT the case in video games at all. There are much more video games with Asian leads than with black leads. What are you talking about?

IDK why people keep buying their games after an exec said that "gamers need to be comfortable not owning their games" & then they shut down The Crew, even if you paid for it, why can't Ubisoft just go bankrupt already???
Because the rich and wealthy shareholders pay them afloat.
Most people who still buy from the worst AAA publishers are people who either have no clue how bad the company is or they simply don't care.
im already very comfortable not owning ubisoft games.
Just to answer your question, I can only speak for myself, but scummy business practices aside (which I only say because I haven’t been impacted by them yet - give it time, I know it’ll probably catch up to me), I’ve enjoyed every main Assassin’s Creed entry except 1 (never played), from 2 all the way through Mirage. That’s the only series of theirs I keep up with, though. Don’t know why ANYONE would play their games that require an internet connection just to launch.
I’m also, perhaps naively, optimistic that single-player games that don’t require internet connections can’t be taken away like The Crew, which I THINK (please correct me if I’m wrong) was an always-online game destined to go down with the servers anyway. Doesn’t make that any better, always-online is a disgusting practice to me for this reason.
TL;DR Not looking to defend them in any way, but I enjoy AC and am (probably) foolishly optimistic.

I think it’s insulting to not feature an ethnic Japanese man a person who has grown up in this culture since birth as the main character all the other AC games have had ethnic main characters why can’t the Japanese have both ethnic male and female playable characters.
No its not. Yasuke is awesome. Well respected figure in Japan. And yes he was a samurai. Shogun had a non Japanese main character, and everyone loves that show. Ask yourself why this makes you so angry. What is it about this man, deep down inside, that makes you so against it.
That is actually a question many Japanese people asked. It seems that the majority see this as an insult and are calling it cultural appropriation to push a agenda. The game is very not well received in Japan at the moment.
@@RyuRyokai this sounds like bullshit, I’d like to see evidence of this. Japanese twitter users do NOT represent the whole of Japan, and frankly its insulting to suggest that the users of the website which skews very far right, represent the majority.
Black people are seen as exotic and cool in Japan, with black or half black characters being featured in a number popular franchises. Usually as side characters. But the idea that this character is being poorly received in Japan sounds like pure nonsense because had been featured in a number of manga stories, games and in anime.
And most Japanese people in general like when Westerners are exposed to their culture, and see any opportunity for westerners to be exposed to it, as a good thing. Like having a black character so that black westerners can be attracted to this and learn about Japanese history. This is a gateway, and Japanese love stuff like that. They are NOT like white Americans that complain about cultural appropriation. That isnt really a thing in Japan, they want to export their culture to as many places as possible. That’s why so many anime characters are western looking and so many games refer to Brazil.

Just AC2 for me. Dunno what other games in the series are that solid.
Bro same, and I have dodged a major bullet over the years it seems
Highly recommend black flag
Last one I played was AC2.
I haven't played one since Ac1 and thought that was garbage 2
Pre-ordering games nowadays is already a bad decision.... but paying for early access and a "non-disclosed" season pass upfront is just stupid... judging by the quality of recent games and the state of the industry i do not recommend anyone to pre-order anything. Wait and see.. buy if reviews are good. The idea of urging to play on day 1 (or day -3) is baffling to me.
I agree. What ever happened to having a little patience?
Fuck nah.
Damn Ubisoft really put the “Ass” in Assassin’s Creed.
Twice.
ass ass in creed. the creed that demands double ass insertions
Ubisoft has been doing this for many years now. It’s about time people are getting sick of it. Ultimate editions, pre-order and season pass exclusive quests, early access, the best and coolest gear being locked behind helix credit paywalls, etc. This isn’t new at all.
Ubisoft is a one trick pony. All of their games are the same; they all follow the same gameplay elements, same systems, same loops and the same features. They never do anything new. Each game is simply a small iteration of the previous game, be it a sequel or a different franchise altogether, they all blend together.
They take franchises and say “how can we make this a “Ubisoft game”. How can we “Ubi-tize” it? They apply that to every game they make, because it makes development a lot easier when they already have a formula to follow for everything.
It's surprising this company still exists.
They already made an Assassin’s Creed that took place in Japan. It’s called Ghost of Tsushima. It’s fantastic, and it’s better than most (if not all) of Ubisoft’s output.
Don’t give a fuck what game Ubisoft makes. they don’t deserve getting my money. No one should buy another product from them ever again. Cancelled my game pass. I cherish my time n what I spend my money on n so should we all as gamers.
Piracy is the key to a better world. Pirate the game first. Buy it later if it really deserves the price asked for it.
@@stepantrekhleb3271I don't think that's the answer.
@@stepantrekhleb3271or just don't play the game, instead of just taking what doesn't belong to you. You complain about the game but somehow it still tickles your fancy that you recommend pirating it?

The same reason why I won't support Star Wars from Ubi, paid scums BS anti-consumer practice are just ridiculous.
That’s on top of that, it’s been disliked the hell same with Star Wars the accoyte

When you have to pay half of a house payment for a "complete" copy/paste game is why I stopped following game releases. And the subscription system is stupid since Adobe shown that they will use it milk users monthly regardless of how much they use it per month.
Why buy something form ubisoft anyway, they can delet your accest to the games you buy from them, so is a wasted of time and money

In my opinion, with a game such as Assassin’s Creed, playing as the one historical figure who would not be able to do anything as an assassin in Japan is an antithesis to the series. Yasuke completely stands out. He cannot hide, sneak up on anyone, etc etc. The antagonists would find him immediately. For the gameplay, writing, and setting reasons, I would void the idea of him being a playable main character. The series has never been all that historically accurate, BUT there needs to be something said for the suspension of disbelief, and that cannot happen with Yasuke being an assassin in Sengoku era Japan.
It’s a good thing he’s not the stealth character then and the tiny Japanese woman is right????
@@mikemills326 if you remove stealth entirely from the series, it is no longer Assassins Creed, at least with the Yasuke portion. The Templars would find him immediately and kill him. He legit has nowhere to hide in Japan.
2024 and Ubisoft hasn’t died yet? That’s wild
Is it? Their games sell, the average gamer doesn't care about anything outside of the game being fun.
Why i need to buy a game that I don't own ?.....
Ubisoft: Give me money! 💰🤑
That’s why.
I figured the outrage was about Ubisoft's anti-consumer practices or one of the main characters being a woman.
I was right on the first part but somehow the second point of contention ended up even dumber than I imagined.
Twitter doesn’t like it when they culture apportioned their games I like that video
Ubisoft is a joke at this point along with Blizzard.
Ubisoft feels more like one by comparison. They've done stupid shit for many years beforehand, easily!
I don't know why people are highly anticipated for this game when it's a Ubishoft game. Everyone is acting like it is gonna be a masterpiece😅 hell people didn't even like the last one lol
I think people are sniffing very high amounts of copium. Ubishit is gonna do what they do best and deliver a medicre to horrible experience.
Most people that are talking about this game as if it’s going to be a masterpiece. Ubisoft games has been criticized to hell and back.
From what I've seen most people myself included are just going to play this one because it's the one we waited over 10 years for and then say I'm out
@simonealcazar816 most of their game are mediocre at best lol
Same reason people buy the new COD every year or buy unfinished scummy garbage because "but they patched it it's good now"
Japan theme assasin's creed game has existed for like 20 years! It's called TENCHU.
See them fail and blame the "rascist gamers" instead of their wonky game...
I don't trust the writers at Ubisoft to have the capability to write a good, engaging story, or the developers at Ubisoft to make a good game anymore.
They did it with both Odyssey and Mirage.
@@TheFirstCurse1 I'm aware. I stopped playing after Black flag. Just posted the comment when I heard the cautious optimism in the vid regarding the writers having a good reason to have Yasuke as one of the protagonists.
Then let people who enjoy it play it and simply play something else. Use common sense
@@Ccubed92 I agree, which is why I do exactly that.
Pretty glad i don't buy ubisoft trash. i feel bad for the "fans" of them.
ubisoft needs to get used to Us disliking things we wont own.
Thumbs up for doing a good job pronouncing Yasuke correctly. Americans usually mess up the names that end with "suke."
Japanese people absolutely hate it and that’s all that matters to me. Yong defending this game has convinced me I am right. It’s disingenuous to believe just because they added a black samurai that all of their games are suddenly good and Ubisoft is now on the same level as larian like no bro give me a whole ass break this shit is blatant propaganda.
Yet all over Japanese Twitter, people are praising it because spoiler alert, they think Yusuke is cool and have made several series where he's the main character. It's also funny that a bunch of comments on the Japanese trailer for the game turned out to be poorly google translated Japanese. You racist Westerners are truly funny and pathetic lol.
I'm hoping they'll actually be vocal. Everybody is dismissing it as racism. When they're the ones that are racist. What's wrong with a Japanese male.
this
@@wkadalie Nothing. They just wanted to focus on a duo protagonist story with a foreigner and NATIVE JAPANESE WOMAN. It is racism. Also the OP potentially being racist as well.
Based on what? The dude actually existed, and if he didn't *so what?* It's a video game. That's like complaining that Sonic is trash because hedgehogs don't run that fast
Dont forget Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth still has NG+ Locked behind a paywall
The sad thing is people defended that.... to.quote Joker, " you'll get what you f*cking deserve"....
Yasuke is a historical figure was a retainer to Nobunaga. Historians - not internet nerds, not racist idiots - agree hat Yasuke would have been elevated to Samurai level, as he was given a house and servants by Nobunaga. People who saay he wasn't a Samurai because he wasn't born Japanese nobility are using the Edo definition of a Samurai. During the Sengoku period, this was not the case. Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who was once a peasant, rose to the rank of Samurai in the Sengoku period. Yasuke, who was a retainer and bushi, received a stipend and a house from his Lord Nobunaga. And the fact that he carried Nobunaga's weapons was a position of high trust and honor, as he served as one of his bodyguards, entrusted with Nobunaga's life. There is so much written on this by actual historians. Yasuke is also a POPULAR figure in Japanese history and pop culture... (wait for it).. IN JAPAN.
Now... that $130 price for the "super deluxe Bend Over" edition is complete Ubisoft bullsh-t. No game is worth that much. If you pay that for this game. YOU are the problem.
I agree, I don't care whether Yasuke is the main character or not and I don't care whether Yasuke is in the game or not, I care more about several aspects such as gameplay, mechanics, story, and especially the price of the game and monetization in the game, for me, that's more important than debating what Yasuke is.
It was getting disliked before the editons were announced. Hmm i wonder why that could be??
Yes, one has no choice but to 🤔
If anybody hasn't heard, there's rumors that they're putting in "mini" battle passes into this single player game.
That has to be a lie. That would make Ubisoft look foolish than they already are.

I’m trying to remember where I read this but yeah the writings on the wall. I think they (or some other big dev) had a survey within the past 12 months asking consumers what they thought about paying $120+ for the standard version of games in the future. So you *know* that price hike is right around the corner.
yongs scared to speak his mind about their character choice

130 dollars
Why when a ton of people buys them like the same EA sports. People buy these games for loyalty
People just buy the game a year from now. You get:
- Half the price
- Updates that fix, or attempt to fix, the game that was released full of bugs.
- The content updates that they add like ng+ or something similar.
Seriously, buying AAA games at launch is the worst fucking deal nowadays. Only do that if it's your job, like a streamer or reviewer.
I do exactly this. I wait for launch, to see if its any good, or watch everything kick off if its a buggy mess. Then bide my time until things are either much lower in price, bugs fixed, and its playable.
Worth the wait, refuse to get shafted. Its frustrating though. Can’t get excited about any big games lately
Same but I might skip ac bores me
Ubisoft Quebec is actually known for their quality of games, especially on launch. Syndicate and Odyssey played great on launch day. And it's better to buy the game earlier as you keep having more and more content to come back to compared to just a massive chunk after a while. At least that's my opinion.
Same, wallet can't handle the shoddiness of what's on offer from the usual "AAA subjects".
how about i dont buy it ever
every penny i give to ubislop is money i flush into a market strand i deeply despise
Time to pirate the most expensive edition
hey i came here from asmondgold's video to give u a like. thanks for the video dude, we definitely need to have more people voice our concerns over "DLC, and Pre purchase" im consider a OG gamer and when DLC and pre purchase started happening I just never get the idea and also thought DLC is such a scam. back then its call expansion packs. and that was gonna be okay because atleast there was more effort put into making that expansion pack worth the money.
Try not to kill any and all hype around your new game instantly challenge: Ubisoft edition (Impossible!)
Here is what will happen, step by step.
1) early access reviewers hype the game up. Preorders go nuts. People actually buy into this crazy tiered pricing.
2) Game releases. It is half finished, bare bones, or just generally shit. Everyone is disappointed.
3) Bad reviews start flooding in. People are pissed that they were hooked into buying crap. Overall review score goes into the mud.
4) Company and devs blame bad reviews on a very small number of bad actors (racists, trolls, etc). Review sites start deleting negative reviews. Dozens of articles are published by major game journalism outlets crying about racism in 2024, the poor devs, game is actually a masterpiece, etc.
5) Ubisoft escapes into the night with a massive cash grab with a subpar game, while gamers get blamed, gaslit, and called racist for not liking a crap product.
This whole yasuke thing gives them the easiest out if the game turns out to be bad. How many times have we seen this with modern franchises? I hope it's not crap but I don't have much hope
Ubisoft are the Templars
It's funny that they lock a quest behind a paywall, when the reason I dropped AC Odyssey was burnout after dozens and dozens of hours of questing with no end in sight. I've also never bought an AC game at full price and probably never will. Hell, they gave me Valhalla as part of my PS Plus subscription and I haven't played it nor will I. (Viking assassins? Really?)
All that said, I've been asking for an AC game with ninjas since forever, so I _will_ play Shadows. Eventually. Some day. Hopefully.
Ubisoft needs a ceo change
all AAA companies do. but the issue is when they are forced to leave they use their money to get their buddies into the position so that everything stays the same.
the better bet is to just boycott these shitty companies.
Ubisoft is a family business....As they say...
Not just CEO. It's the inner circle that needs a change. The CEO could quit but somebody with the same mindset from the inner circle will just take over.
They love that D.E I. money too much.
There stock is on the low side
I don’t have the energy for Ubisoft’s complete bullshit anymore. Good luck to the kids who are currently getting into gaming.
I put my bet down a while ago that if any of these big AAA's collapse in the near future, Ubisoft will be the first on the funeral pyre. They tried to get sold off to another company, in a time when both MS and Sony were buying up anyone they could, and NO ONE was interested. That's a dire state of affairs for them. They have absolutely nothing going on, just a bunch of tired franchises they've been rehashing for 15+ years now. There first big new franchise in forever was Skull & Bones and it was just shitty AC4 with live service guff jammed in it.
Also, the company is rife with sex pests and Ubisoft did nothing but shuffle them around and lay a few off with some nice stock options. The Catholic Church would be proud. Rank and file employees still complain to this day about how the work environment is shit for women. Fuck Ubisoft.
Ubisoft best game is suckering Singapore out of all that money and handing them 'Skull and Bones'; Ha, Ha, what a pigeon drop!
I feel like the inclusion of Yasuke was done specifically to deflect criticism away from the pricing. They know *exactly* why people would be annoyed by that. It's basically an extremely obnoxious "well actually" type of thing while hiding behind a protected class of person in the west like a bad caricature.
No it wasn't, what Ubisoft could do is hyperfocus on the racism present in the Yasuke discource instead of the actual complaints people have, which is the pricing, quest locking, etc. But that'd be them taking advantage of the stupidity of people who like to complain about things that don't matter, rather than manufacturing a decoy.
@@allthenamesiwantedweretaken Maybe then don't talk about the protagonist and talk about the monetization practices.
Worst part about this is I’d totally be down to play a game about Yasuke if it wasn’t another awful modern Ubisoft AC game
