    I bought a pair of trench boots from Oak Street, but the the quality of stitching was so bad, I sent them back and never bothered to order another pair. It was like there’s no quality control there. Maybe I just got a bad pair, but they should be aware.

    I have the Oak Street cap toe trench boots in natural chrome XL and they've been great. Very comfortable and attractive boots with a daynite sole. My only issue is that the only sole options are the rubber impregnated leather and the daynite and I prefer a more aggressive sole.

    For what they are, I like my Oak Street boots. They may not be the thickest leather, or the most rugged of builds, but they are extremely comfortable. I really like the fit of the Elston last.

    • @AaronG2480
      @AaronG2480  7 місяців тому

      No doubts about that
      But the thickness is not what you normally expect on these type of boots.
      As I mentioned I got these based on a pair of boots I worked before, definitely a totally different thickness of leather
      Cheers!

    I bought a pair of Natural CXL cap toe boots from Oak Street a couple months ago. When I got them in I thought the exact same thing. The leather on the tongue is twice the thickness of what's on the boot. They're clearly making some cutbacks. But I wanted a pair of oak Streets to add to the rotation since I'm a big Truman collector so I decided to keep them.

    I recently purchased this model of boots since they were on sale. Mine were also pretty thin, they felt like leather gloves on my feet which isn't necessarily a bad thing for warmer weather. I also purchased the rough out field boots recently and the leather on those was substantially thicker. They're are at least as thick as the leather on my 8087 and 1907 Red Wings.

    Those 1000 miles look good with the recrafted soles! I got my first pair of OSB last month, Seidel Roughout, comfortable boots, but what struck me was how thin the leather was. I like the boots, but disappointed at the leather thinness, I thought it was just me

    I had a pair a few years ago (sold because I sized wrong) and they have changed a bit since then.
    The leather used to be much thicker, the eyelets had that “flower” pattern on the flared side, and had a full length leather insole. Sad to see them cutting corners.

    Hello Aaron.
    I have the same trench boot in Black Chromexcel. It was an earlier boot from when Oak Street really was hit and miss in terms of Quality Control. Mine is as you described with a poron foot bed over a leather insole with a sock liner on top. My eyelets are also different being unbacked and most importantly being the leather is insanely thick. It is almost 3mm in places! But being Chromexcel it's super soft and pliable. Being black it is a teacore leather and has patina'd beautifully. If you can't tell I love it.
    It replaced an 8 year old pair of RW Iron Rangers and will probably stay in my rotation for a long time. Sad to see yours are not up to standard 😢

    • @AaronG2480
      @AaronG2480  8 місяців тому +2

      That’s exactly what I was expecting, that poron material, full sock liner and thicker leather.

    I have the same boot, just natural CXL, and purchased them during the 2023 Memorial Day sale. Never noticed the thickness between the tongue and the rest of the boot, but mine are the same as you describe. I’m not viewing this as a bad thing though, they were comfortable from the beginning and broke in very quickly. I also wear them as a summer boot, so thinner and unlined is preferred. They’ve become my favorite boot over my Thursdays, Redwings, and Danner’s but not more than my Grant Stone’s. With the discount, they came in at close to the same price as Grant Stone’s and I think they’re about right for the price of an American made boot.

    Owner of two OSBs here. First was Trench in natural CXL with leather sole, manufactured 2021, bought 2023 on discount. Those had the full sockliner and the leather was actually thick but flexible. I've used those a lot in the sun so they have pretty much darkened up to a whiskey colour, not QC complaints on that pair. Second pair I bought was their limited badalassi cognac ness field boot in 2024. The footbed has changed to the half sock liner like yours and while the boot itself didn't have the more visible QC issues, I noticed in a shaft panel, they overshot the needle. So there's one empty stitch hole outside of where the thread ends, but since the leather has a very vibrant colour variation (looks like A5 wagyu lmao), the hole isn't noticeable until you really pay attention to it.

      @@AaronG2480 Yeah I checked my trench boots based on the angle you showed (tongue versus shaft collar), mine are at least twice if not 3x as thick as the tongue leather. I don't know how anyone at OSB approved those boots for sale. On an interesting note, did you manage to find a manufacturing date and batch stamp on the tongue? That's how I know my first OSB was made August 2021.

    I have an older pair of British tan trench boots that have the leather sole. I bought them used. Paid a reasonable price and received a relatively new pair of boots for less than half their current price. While I don’t have exact measurements, the leather feels comparable to my charcoal Iron rangers. Nice pull up leather and the clicking is very good. I really like the Elston last because it’s wide in the toe box and narrow in the heel. I also have a pair of Grant Stone natural CF Stead Diesel boots that are similar though the Diesel craftsmanship is honestly better. I have considered buying another pair of OSBs on several occasions, however, even at the sale price, it seems overpriced. I appreciate your candid advice and regrettably won’t consider these again. Glad I caught a good priced shoe. Sorry that this happened, I really hope they can get it back on track. Seeing the soles on your 1000 milers, I’m now going to save up to have you resole my RW 8883s with that camo sole. I think they were meant to be together.

    To know the thickness of the leather in the quarters, you actually have to measure it using a gauge. The collar area you are talking about with the two pieces of leather could have easily of been skived down to keep it thinner for flexibility.

    • @AaronG2480
      @AaronG2480  7 місяців тому +1

      Trust me my friend, I’m sure this is not a normal average thickness for this type of boots, even my red wings have thicker leather than these boots,
      .
      I mentioned and compared the 2 pieces of leather just as a reference.
      I’ve been working with boots for more than 10 years, and as soon as I open the box and touched the boots
      (the whole boot) not only the collar, I new something wasn’t right with them the thickness was 3/4 oz
      On these type of boots we expect at least 2 /2.4 mm
      5/6 0z. And even more depending on the company, type of boots And leather, if you read the comments you’ll see that .
      Anyway I ended up returning them, thanks for watching!
      BTW Ihave a leather gauge
      Cheers.

    I have the dainite version of this boot and I got it one year ago. The leather is slightly thicker but it is significantly thinner throughout the body compared to the tongue. These boots are also not comfortable at all in almost any situation. From 20,000 step days to 5,000 step days. I do exclusively walk on concrete and hardwood but my other boots with leather insoles do not have that issue.

    I’ve found similar quality control issues on my Trench boots in Natural Chromexcel Rough-out. On the inside of the right boot, there is a plastic residue that’s peeling off the side walls as well. Probably won’t effect the structure, but along with both boots having slightly over sanded welts and stitching variances, it’s enough for me to not be pleased with the purchase overall. I would love to see a video of these broken down, layer by layer, to see if the company can be trusted, based off of the “quality” materials and construction methods they supposedly used!

    why did you just cry for 15 min about the stupidest things regarding the Oak avenue booties? I would be jumping for Joy if I could afford a pair from that boot maker. No, I'm giving you a hard time. $350 is a lot to spend on a boot , even a boot normally priced at near $500 like oak blvd boots. and when you know what makes a good boot as you sir especially know, you want to be happy spending that kind of money, completely understandable. But the real question is that you like your 1,000milas ? i've heard mixed reveiws about them but was planning on getting a factory second with the wedge sole. I just like wedge soles. but then I thought about it and if i'm going to have a boot as prestigious as a 1,000mile the I should get the leather or halfsole because it feels like putting furry seat cover on a Mercedes with nappa leather interior, just ruins the glamour and bougie-ness. but why did you ruin your 1,000 milas with that sole? are you using them to play laser tag in?
