    I think your method of speeding up most of ray tracing features in EEVEE is the best, and it Blender Foundation should have just polished it and included it in blender as addon

    I like your projects, but remember all the 4.X series are for EEVEE-NEXT ! Don't forget one thing eevee-next works with surfels so he need a probe volume ray tracine are on more things for getting much better result with GI Probe baked. add a probe volume you see a difference ! But i still in dev and need A LOT OF OPTIMIZATIONS AND A LOT OF FEATURES MISSED AND ASKED !

    I know eevee next is in alpha but i hope they don't make disastrous. Maybe it's better to be delayed to 4.2

    It still needs work. It crashed on my computer a couble of times, but it's alpha, so.. expected.

    On top of that it produces too much noise or black spots whatever it called on meshes with subsurface scattering. It is really underdeveloped. I'm getting my "Unity new fEaTuReS" vietnam flashbacks rn

    could this also be due to the subtle changes as to how the principled shader work? I noticed some difference when I opened my scene and rendered them in 4.0 (albeit using cycles)

    Ive made multiple gi test scenes months ago. What I found is that eevee next could not even render the scenes meanwhile 0451's gi could. For regular scenes, eevee next was not even close to 0451's gi quality. 0451's gi could be used for animation except it being screenspace ruins it. Makes sense, it was made 4 years ago. Eevee next has been in development for 3 years, and it's also screen space based. In other words, its something that is yet to officially come out and its already outdated. That is my issue with Eevee next and all the youtubers fanboying over it. Its deprecated technology already. All of the popular real time renderers have already moved away from that. Whats even more sad, is that 0451 is the reason eevee next was even put into development. Yet its worse

      Well, I thought so, but taking a look in current stage of development, It seems will not be SS anymore, but something else. My hope in Eevee Next increased. Lets watch!

      @@washingtonfilho2268 EEVEE NEXT GI will still be SS based. In the official documentation it says its SS and I tested the latest today, its still SS. The dev working on it said that he will rewrite it to allow hardware acceleration but in his own words, "it's not "real" raytracing". The official checklist also has zero mention of non SS GI

    Great video. I have tried SSGI in 3.6.2 and the major problem I have encountered is when having a scene with some glass and mirrors and how they interact together. Clearly better to just use cycles in this case but sadly it takes way longer to render.

      if you use a combo of reflection planes and clever refraction/blend tricks you can have glass and mirrors interact quite well in eevee ssgi

    You are right, i don't know what the meanig of EEVEE Next when we already have SSGI addon, Specially if EEVEE Next will not support hardware raytracing in 4.1 version, just look at the dates of tasks, for example Vulkan support is 4 year ago, and when they make a new thing every time should start crazy wrong for example ( curve to mesh ) node the thickness not even, also in extrude mesh node, just wait and wait for very basic logics.

      Yeah, I understand your frustration, which is mine as well. However, if you look at Autodesk and Maxon, I think Blender is evolving very fast, even Maxon doing a great job. I really expect to get more refinement in existing nodes, at the same time they are catching up with important things as well, like tab groups in Geo Nodes modifiers, which is crucial to more complex sets. I really trust on Blender Foundation guys and I truly believe they will do what most of us expect soon. I like all the optimization and performance work. This is important as well. Lets cross fingers! Go Blender!!

      ​@@washingtonfilho2268Yes i know this too, but when you are in evolving fast, there are some basics that you shouldn't loose it, another example in override material you can't exclude one or two material from overrideing and it is very old and basic, also AO pass don't respect transparency.....etc, i am realy so love blender but realy there are some basics that you can't ignore it.

      The point of Eevee Next is to make it more modern, faster and better than before. The comparison in this video is a bit pointless since it compares two finished products (the four year old Eevee and the SSGI addon) with a product that is currently in ALPHA. Give it a few months and we'll get a way better picture on how it will actually look and perform when it's released.

      Yes I know right? It will be great once is complete. I have made this comparison because there are a bunch of youtubers click baiting out there with something like "Eevee Next is awesome", but it is not, not at this point. At this point is useless, so I don't like people trying to click bait by selling some false reality.

    The GI implementation in EEVEE next is pretty good but the shadows (virtual shadow map) are very bad, It doesn't matter how hard we try we cannot get rid of the jagged edges of the shadows, if we increase the shadow softness by increasing the light scale, shadows starts to have weird haloing artifacts, even with higher samples and shadow rays. Another drawback of the new shadow system is that we cannot control the shadow bias of each and every light separately, there's an option to control the shadow bias for all the lights together in the scene, but it's very inconvenient and rigid.... Moreover we cannot control the ambient occlusion radius and intensity...
    The new volumetrics system, shader displacement, and the better handling of transparency and refraction (now the same shader can have screen-space reflection and refraction at the same time) are some of my favorite changes in EEVEE next.
    Let's hope for the best, that in final release of EEVEE next, they will have a better system for handling the shadows and ambient occlusion... And I would also like to get a screen space curvature node for EEVEE next as well.. Overall I feel like EEVEE next is a great improvement over the existing EEVEE but in no way, shape or form it's production ready. ..

    the Eevee SSGI is totally better than Eevee Next. Eevee SSGI is the future of a large use of blender for broswer web use.

      Eevee SSGI is better but has serious limitations. I believe Eevee next will be much, much better when released.

    Eevee-Next is overhyped even if it was fully functional at this point. Screen space GI is archaic compared to what most legit real time rendering engines are doing now a days.

      I don't think so. Every freature in Eevee isn't the same as in Unreal, for example. The results of SSGI in Eevee is much superior to any SSGI I ever saw in Unreal, Cryengine and Godot, for example. They made Eevee for high-end animation, not for real time gaming. So I bet they will come with something much more impressive than what look likes at this point. Hopefully.

    Unfortunately the open-source, free forever dream is far from perfect. It feels more like an anti-monopoly shield for the big players, much like Linux is for operating systems.
    For me, the free2play blender keeps me away mainly because of the clumsiness/awkwardness of the ui interaction.

      I learned 3ds Max in 2007. Maya in 2009. Then I got back into 3D with Blender in 2021. I can honestly say the UI is much better in Blender compared to Maya. Yes there are more hotkeys, Blender's UI is much more advanced. Autodesk broke certain aspects of Maya's UI in 2011 with the new QT interface such as New Application Window. Blender allows for fully functional multiple application windows for the same instance. Blender's UI is genuinely world's ahead of most other software. I'm not someone speaking as some scrub who's experience only pertains to Blender. Autodesk does not care. Blender Foundation does. I don't even use EEVEE. I use Cycles for small projects that can be rendered on GPU with my Asus Strix 3090 and Renderman for more demanding projects. Blender is excellent. I do admit that the addon for SSGI looks better but I'm sure they will make the official implementation good. However, again, I don't use EEVEE, but I do like it and am interested in it's further development.

      Blender's UI is only awkward / clumsy if you haven't actually gone through some training courses. It's like $60 to buy CG Boost's 20 hour Blender Launchpad course. It's not expensive to learn Blender at all.

      As a software and how to use it, Blender is my fav, but the lack of tools compared to Maya or other softwares is the problem, lack of improvement. I use it for modeling and some stuff with curves, base models and for retopology, I like it better than topogun. But can't compete with Maya and even less with other programs in their area. Could be an alternative for marmoset, but for some reason they are not improving it. Fanboys are what keeps blender back in my opinion, it's like a cult now.
