If you want to have your 2 first books in your reading challenge, you need to put them first in « currently reading » and after put them in « read »
Also, I created a new shelf for my wishlist and put my TBR in « want to read »
And finally, I know it takes time but it’s so satisfying to have ALL the books we’ve read so far on the app ! I’d love to see all the books you’ve read.
That’s not entirely true, you can edit the dates read, they don’t have to be added to “currently reading” first
adding them to currently reading and then to read is faster than edit the dates, at least for me 🤷
@@brookesydney plus you don’t even have to add dates, just go to the reading challenge tab and confirm that those books were read in 2023 and it automatically adds to the challenge
Last year I just logged books as read and didn’t put in dates read and all of my books counted toward my reading challenge
@@abbyxoxo48 I knew I wasn’t crazy. I did it last year but it wouldn’t work for me this year. I’ll definitely add it currently reading and then read. Sounds so much faster than adding dates which is what I was doing.
Yes, please add the books you’ve read, it will take a while but you can add a few every day.
You can add the books you've read by simply scanning their cover!! I think is a great thing it only takes 2 seconds each time :)) you just go to "more" in the bottom right corner, then to "scan books"

you should make a Storygraph account too, it tracks pages, hours, moods, genres, formats, most read authors, star readings, and so much more!!! def better than Goodreads in terms of tracking your reading habits and other interests and it was created by Nadia Odunayo, a woman of colour in a STEM career! please give it a try, you won't regret it!

Goodreads is so fun because you’re able to see what your friends are thinking about the books in the moment rather than as a whole. I follow this girl that puts her favorite quotes from the books as she goes along. It would also be fun if you made a group then we could discuss topics/books. You can really make it however you want, these are just some of my favorite things to do.
Don't forget to add when you've read the books! I normally just include the month and the year, but you can record the specific day you've finished reading them, as well. That way, Goodreads can keep track of how many books you've read each year. ❤️
When you add a book, you can create custom shelves, so create a DNF one if you DNF books as there's not one on goodreads. So if you dnf set it as read, give 0 rating and slap it on the DNF shelf. You can also make TBRs, a top x books shelf that you can pin to your profile and so much more :) I've sent a request, I hope you enjoy it!
You can also mark the dnf shelf as exclusive via the shelve settings on the website (so not the app) and it should appear in the same format as your want to read, currently reading and want to read shelf :)
i use Storygraph, which is literally the same thing, thanks to Jack Edwards and im happier now cause its not an ugly ass website. Pretty things make my life better. Just came to share in case anyone else’s decisions are based on stupid stuff like mine are. Jack has a video about it

Also adding little reviews to the books u read after u finish it kinda replicates a “book journal” so you can look back and see what ur immediate thoughts were

i would recommend adding all the books you read, and making your TBR. it makes everything so much more organized and you can see everything in front of you, it's amazing. another trick i learned was to make a want to buy shelf on goodreads. it separates your TBR that you own vs the ones you want to purchase. that's my advice! so excited that you have a goodreads, you'll love it. 💘💘💘
Exciting! I would love if you also gave Storygraph a try this year so you can decide which tracker you like best (and maybe compare the two on a video)! Storygraph is non-Amazon owned and run by a Black female software engineer who loves to read! The stats are amazing and it is much more intuitive to use, looks prettier, etc... You can really tell a reader is in charge of the platform!

so when ur currently reading a book u so put “currently read” instead of pressing “read” , u can also put how many pages u have read in that particular book
as an avid goodreads user i was so excited that you posted this, also I would love to see all of the books you've ever read. on my goodreads I've made a couple different shelves like I have "all time favs", "up next" (like the books at the top of my TBR), "buying next" and then the basic "read", "want to read" and "currently reading" i like doing this because it keeps me organized and I like when other people have their set up in a similar way because I do in fact love stalking other peoples GoodReads. FYI the app is kindaaa buggy sometimes so just be aware of that but I'm so glad u joined and I'm excited to see your updates!
you should definitely put all the books you’ve read because it’s really satisfying and it would be easier for people who always ask if you’ve read a book to figure out if you have! to put the books in your challenge just change the dates of when you read and if you want your reads to have the specific date on when you read them, change the dates for that too!

If you don't end up liking goodreads, i recommend Storygraph, it's still pretty new and has some progressions to be made, but it's great for the stats of your readinn and seeing it all as a whole. I also prefer the layout more, it feels less outdated. EIther way excited to check out your reads!
Yayyy finally! I would recommend to start fresh or maybe add ones from previous years that are your favourites. It takes a while to add everything BUT there is a scanning feature that might make it easier!

I think it will take too long to add all the books but if you wanna add your favorite ones then go for it! Also there's an option "add dates" under every book and you can edit it there for it to be added in your reading challenge. I'm so happy you made it!
It’s also a good place for recommendations. If you find a book you like, search it and click on it. scroll to the bottom. And it will give you recs based on that book from goodreads, there’s also “category groups”, not sure what else to call it, that others have made underneath that. Where they will pick parts of that book, like the trope or something specific about it and put it in a category and there will be other books in it that have the same.

i’m so excited!! Putting in all your books is time consuming, so maybe you could create a „favourite books“ shelf so we could see those all in one place 🫶🏻

2) i joined goodreads semi-recently and so i added all the other books i had from like a 2ish year list. it was about 100-120 books and it only took like, maybe an hour. and that was with adding dates read and ratings so just adding books doesn't take too long. especially with the app since you can scan the cover and not type in every single title.
3) making shelves on goodreads is honestly a lifesaver. i think it would also be helpful for you with videos of recs of a trope/genre.
4) idk if you read anything on kindle, but you can automatically add your notes from books to your gr. you can also hide some and share others, or turn it off all together.

You could add them all if you want. For me personally, I’ve only added books I’ve read since I downloaded Goodreads. I’m so glad you finally made an account, i’ve tried to find you on there in the past and was surprised i didn’t find you. I don’t use it often but it’s nice to keep track of the books i read
Reorganising my TBR list is one of my favourite things to do! With the books you've read this year you might have to add the date read to make sure they count in your Reading Challenge!

OK, so welcome to goodreads! You are actually gonna love it. You can add ratings if not reviews to look back on. I would say it does take a while to add your entire backlist but if you just added the last few years of reading that would give you a good base. You can follow other booktubers or friends for recs, you can follow authors that you love for news on new releases and book signing events. Lastly you get reading insights, which is like your spotify wrapped for books, I think you will find that really cool. Enjoy! Off to go follow you for recs. I'm currently reading the fine print and loving it!

Also!! You can scan the barcodes of your books instead of searching them (on the homepage there’s a little camera beside the search bar on the app). I find that easier for my physical books :)

I think goodreads is a good way to keep track of all the books you've read it'll probably take a while to add in all your books but it'll be worth it in the end I'd day. You can also make different bookshelves like books you give 5 stars/favorites, books you want to buy, physical tbr, etc!

i'm pretty sure on the phone app you can just scan the books there should be a little camera icon in the corner when you're searching for a book and also if you want the books to be added to your reading challenge you gotta add them to "currently reading" first and then "update progress" and press finished

it won’t take long to add everything - it will be tedious. you can also make different shelves like smut or cute reads.
add the books you read already! you also can go where you make your reviews and add dates, when u started the book and when you finished the book

One of the features I love on GR are the tags. I use them for tropes and i love seeing the tags other people use. I also use the app to just scan my books ISBN to mark as reading. The more you use it the easier it gets. I don’t review all of my books but I like tracking what I have read.

You can try to add all the books you’ve ever read, so that the algorithm can recommend you books based on what you like. I would advise you to that on your laptop. The website is easier to use when you have a more fastidious task to do
And for the rest, you’ll get used to the app as you go

Create shelves! I love mine. It helps me organize the different types of books I read. I also have a shelf for every year, so I add all the books for the current year in the shelf and can see all the books I read in 2022. I love it!
