This video could not be more true!!! I actually had to repeat an entire HBL. We are currently doing HBL B again for 3/5 grade. With a struggling reader (5th), I quickly figured out that it was ok and we needed to slow down. It just means we won’t be doing all the 100-400 levels and that’s ok too.
Great tips! Last year I did the tip of choosing some Read Alouds to read in the Summer. It helped us stay in the habit of still reading together all Summer. 😊 I think we did five this Summer. ❤
I have six children close in age but vary greatly in ability. We are currently using SOTW volume 3 with SL D read alouds, memory, and prayer guide. My 8th grader is using SL H semester 1 bible books, read alouds, and readers independently. He will finish SL H next year. My younger ones are using SL readers 1, 2, and 3. We aren’t using SL language arts at the time but I do use it as a framework to compile our own resources. (For the younger ones…Explode the Code, Happy Cheetah, Spelling You See, Core Skills Phonics, Writing with Ease, and First Language Lessons, and Rod & Staff English for my oldest)
We are sonlighters! I usually take my time getting through the read alouds. In all of our years, I don’t think I’ve ever read them all but that’s ok. I do try to utilize audio books where I can but when something has to give, it’s our read aloud.
I learned this the hard way too. For my 4 oldest I used the levels Sonlight recommended. For my younger kids I’m doing it differently. My 2nd grader is using HBL A with Science A. My kindergartner is using T the first had of K and P the second half. It’s going so well!! The discussions are so much better. For their Language Arts we use CLE at their grade levels.
Thank you for sharing, I found this helpful especially the tip about leaving some bits for the weekend if needed. I have a question. :) when you said about the timeline book, about doing it but not doing all in, I can’t remember the exact words, I feel, I could do that part better, but I am not sure how. We stick them in and sometimes mention, ‘oh look, that was also going on that same time too.’ But that’s it, would you be able to make a video or give some advice how I could make this more rich and impactful, I don’t feel Im doing a great job with this part.
Haha, that is about what I do too - sometimes I use it as a bit of review to see if they remember the other stickers. But here is a link to a video SL recently put out with some more ideas for the timeline books: ua-cam.com/video/d2I6GDB81NM/v-deo.htmlsi=VM6mbvn-Sb4yozZ6
I’m totally feeling overwhelmed with SonLight level C. I may need to shelve the Window of the World for a little bit. I’m addition, we’re working through a complete core for Memoria Press grade 3 and it makes for some long days.
I'm struggling with week 10 creative writing days 3 and 4 and my husband thinks I am overthinking it (which is probably the correct) but I have no idea what to do. I can't help them it feels like with their journal and it needs to be turned in do you have any suggestions for me? I'm just feeling a lot overwhelmed with all that is required.

I think that is a wonderful plan for your struggling reading - I love that you are meeting him where he is at!!
Most helpful video ever , thank you!!
Good tips! I don't even use Sonlight, but this is good stuff no matter what you use!
Agreed, I’m glad you found it helpful!!

Yes, I find the read alouds are the easiest to move around!

That’s a lot! I agree the Window on the World book is a fair amount of reading!!

What Sonlight LA level are they in? Also, are you required to turn in something to an umbrella school or overseer of some sort?
