      You'll laugh at the simplicity behind its principle. The answer is a magic trick with 3 cameras in the scene. 2 cameras has their layers set to not check the other (same as for the lighting in the scene). So, in other words, it's like if you have 2 scenes in the same scene. A 3rd camera is used now and then that only see the character.
      If you look closely, they avoid displaying the character *during* the warp. That's simply to avoid having too much of an hassle in managing the transition in the lighting. (It shows the character in the tunnel, camera change view and the character is not seen anymore but he's already set to be in the other world's lighting. Wrap is done and, after the camera move back and you can see the character lighted properly.)
      The wrap itself is done with a simple after-effect on each of the 2 camera. The 2nd camera (displaying the cave background) has a transparency mask technique applied to it which has its mask update with a kind of transitional clouds texture to its mask channel.
      While they could have used VE-Graph, there's absolutely no need for it.

I hope this was intentional and added the value to it. Suggestion: But the little sound of changing hand was needed I guess. I might be wrong.

      @KaziooFX 5 років тому

      The new tech makes rendering easier, but the majority of cost of these productions comes from creation of assets and animation, which is as expensive and time consuming as ever. There were some big improvements, like digital sculpting and photogrammetry - they improved quality/realism, but I think they didn't really reduce time and cost.
      Also: realtime engines require more effort in baking and optimisations than offline renderers, so there are some disadvantages too.

    That looks pretty damn impressive for a real time render. Unfortunately, demoing videos like this on UA-cam isn't ideal because of the compression UA-cam inherently adds to videos. Makes it hard to see the true quality/resolution of the original render. The latest Unreal engine 5 demo still looks more impressive but this is very good. 3D engines and rendering techniques have come a long way since the early 2000s.

      @@reaperrg93 There is no connection here. "Real-time" can use any amount of baking, from zero to a ton. Real-time in the computer graphics world just means you're rendering at least 30 frames per second and even that's debatable. A tech demo could claim "real-time" and run at the 24 fps movie standard or even lower. A framerate as low as 16 fps could be perceived as motion, perhaps even lower with motion blur.

      Either that, or it wont have any real content.. either way it's not cost efficient. Games are not a charity after all, it's a business^^
      Another point would be that this runs at 30 FPS on a pretty high end system. Which is still impressive, but for a game to actually sell copies it should at LEAST run 60-120 FPS on high settings with such a rig. So that.. i dunno.. the average user / 5+ years old computers can run it at all.

    • @sean8102
      @sean8102 4 роки тому

      Like others have said budget is a huge reason. Creating a small confined tech demo with this level of detail is one thing, creating a full game that has this level of attention to detail in every part of it would require a TON of money, time, asset creation etc etc. Plus you'd be targeting only high end gaming PC's (VERY few PC gamers buy GPU's over ~$250-$350) and maybe the next gen consoles coming out holiday 2020. That's a pretty small market for something that will require a HUGE budget. Very little chance of making a profit on that.

      This is highlighting the work done against the nVidia RTX cards, that have a focus on realtime raytracing, which this scene doesn't really use but the fast buffer flushing done with the RTX stuff also makes a lot of the other neat shaders used in this scene playable at a reasonable FPS. The entry level RTX card is about $350 iirc but still pretty powerful. This is what they mean by consumer class PC, something with 16gb+ of DDR4, RTX card and a quality CPU (i7 or equivalent).

The only thing missing is "interaction" with the movie. Imagine telling a story in this high detailed visual presentation that can present choices to the viewer, enabling story branch with multiple outcomes. Otherwise, this is nothing different than a pre-rendered short film we get in abundance already. Can't wait until VR is also capable of handling this visual fidelity. We're maybe 2 decades away?
