Ok, these are not flat. True audiophile reviewers on UA-cam will always point this out, and most are even critical of the sharp highs (including myself) that result in plenty of sibilance.

Sound Guys Seriously awesome review! I found Kevin's review more exciting to watch than Chris's review of the Skullcandy Crusher headphones, with the different displays and angles of the headphones being shown. It wasn't just a few of the same rolling shots over and over. In addition we saw the headphones actually being worn more than once and on different people. The content of the reviews were both great, however I did like more how Kevin highlighted certain strengths or weaknesses of the headphones, and gave certain songs as examples and when they occurred in the song. It pointed me to a certain place to look in a song and compare rather than a simple check the description explanation. Good job guys!

I love these headphones very much but I'm afraid I had to stop watching this video when they were called in-ear headphones to begin with then the first guy came out of the room with the cable coming out of his right side. It seems like it's just a nice video to look at with its great editing and visuals of NY

You have a typo in your Sound Quality rating, so I'm not sure which one you meant to keep.
At 3:29, you rated the headphones at 8.8, but at 5:30, it says 9.2

Wow. What a cool video. The presentation was the best I've seen for reviewing a product. Congratulations on executing a very well done and extremely effective product review for the ATH - M50x BL headphones. I'll be looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I've been saving for these for a couple of weeks now. Last weekend I sat next to someone in a hospital waiting room who was wearing these. He said he liked them so much that he bought a second pair. He said he appreciates the set coming with 3 deatchable cables. He mentioned that it took 3 weeks of "burn-in" time for the headphones to begin sounding their best. He also mentioned the the m50x ear pads were much more comfortable than the original M50 earpads.
Currently I'm using an inexpensive but amazing sounding pair of Phillips SHP 2600's and listening to a group called Dadub. Tracks Ilya and also Beyond The Veil sound utterly stunning on headphones. It's the most unique sounding electronic music I've ever heard.
It seems like these tracks from Dadub could be a really good way to get a feel for the sound of a set of headphones. If this sounds as good on a pair of walmart headphones, I can't imagine how this would sound on the ATH M50x.

This is a very good review. I own a pair of ATH-M50x BL.
As for the "tightness" issue, I know exactly what is being described, but using an old receiver as a headphone amp (Kids, most old receivers have excellent headphone amps built in) I do not experience this with my pair.
The ear pads are not true leather, but are a very soft, comfortable leatherette nylon material. A bit more durable, still very soft and very comfortable. I agree 100% with the rest of the review.

After using Skull Candy Titans (which I absolutely love), I used my friend's pair of M50's. I totally agree with you on the easy mids and highs that don't abuse your ears at higher volumes. I also found the base to be lacking as well! I like a really tight base that doesn't sound muddled.
On that note, can anyone recommend a pair of headphones similar to the M50's but with a tighter, more pronounced bass?

Are these headphones still a great buy for someone like myself who really just listens to music on my phone or iPod? I sometimes do things on my computer that i know they would be excellent for but their main use for me would be to wear while walking to class on campus and possibly while working out. Do they have a tight enough fit to not move around while being active and would they not look to computer tech while wearing them around? I'm loving what I've been hearing about these and becoming very interested in these.

How are these for gaming on PC? I like to play FPS games, so I need to be able to hear footsteps and all that. Are these headphones good for that? I also like to listen to my music on my MP3 player, so that is one reason why I want to get these and not a gaming headset. The other reason is that all gaming headsets have a built in microphone and I like the Audio Technica AT2020 for talk.

You do know that in most of the shots you are wearing the headphones the wrong way. The cable goes on the left side and the earcups are tilted so as to fit nkcely with the shape of the ears. Oh and you actually folded up the headphones the wrong way. The earcups are supposed to be pressed against each other and then pushed up to the headband. :)

Erick Dabandan That sucks, although if you are going to get a pair of M50 headphones, get the M50x version even though it costs more. If something with the cable goes wrong, it's easier to buy a replacement than going through the warranty process.

I wanna buy ATH-M50X bl ... I love your review and everyone else says great things about these ... but... the only thing I am concerned about is this "FLAT sound" ... how flat is it?... Cuz I like idea of realistic sound but sometimes I also would love stronger base and sharper crisp high's... and was wondering if I tweak the Equilizer on my device (pc, phone, etc.) can I unflatten the sound, and get the exact same sound as if I would have if I got a DJ-Class headphones?

Should I get these or Bose Soundtrue. I currently own the sennheiser momentum but was hoping to get something MORE comfortable, with plush ear pads and bigger ear cups, but still wanting that sound quality of the momentums. which one should I get?

Great video, very concise. The quality of sound has been proven already by the countless reviews of these headphones.
    Keep it up!

To Ayham, M50x is going to better in all categories but noise canceling. Bose does really have great noise canceling features, but the sound isn't in the competition to the Audio Technica's. I will say that I've tried them before and the Audio Technica already does well blocking out noise without a noise canceling feature. I would go with the M50x any day over the Bose.

Did you just use plush and M50x in the same sentence?
    Yea, I don't believe you.

Shouldn't these be worn with the cable to the left of the head? In some scenes, it's the other way around.

Bought the M50x I really really like it but the problem is I can't wear it over 5 minutes, my head is just so pain after wearing it, theres not much padding inside the headband and the weight of the headphones push down a good amount. Have to find a solution or else I can only return it....

Will the bass be good enough if I use an equalizer to tweak it a little? I still wanna maintain the good accurate and well-balanced sound but at the same time I wanna know the bass is there.

    • @kevinoriordan20
      @kevinoriordan20 9 років тому

There really is no point in using an equalizer with these headphones, won't really make that much of a noticeable impact. In terms of bass it's there but doesn't have that tight punchy kick to it. If you are primarily looking for headphones with excellent bass look elsewhere unfortunately..

Sound Guys Still dont get why there is no inline mic - are there after markets cords with mic? Also - I recently bought a pair of the new Bose SoundTrue and I am a little disappointed with their sound quality, they are nothing like the sound on their Bose loudspeakers such as the Soundlink and the Sound Dock. They have different sounds/pitches at Bose for speakers vs Headphones for sure. Are these a good pair of bass driven headphones? or are their other ones out there I should look at?

Some people say the sennheiser h800, while others say the Grado ps1000. It really depends on what you listen to, and what sounds good to you.

I don't know enough about the super high end, but I know that the Audeze LCD-3s are supposed to be really damn good. I try not to think about headphones that cost that much, otherwise I'll start crying.
