looking foward to part 5 .did a swap quite the opposite of yours a byd mk 5 engine in to a mk 7 golf 1.2 tsi still a work in progress working on transforming it to all wheel drive the car drives normally but cant get the rev meter, temperature gauge and launch control to work any ideas on how to sort out these.
Hello, for the OEM look the headliner lights comes in black originaly in passat b3, you can just buy them with the handles for cheap. Also the suede material might be good for headliner, but will probably fade away because of UV and turn to purple on the rear shelf. Good luck with the build ! Also door handles can be upgraded to better looking ones from vw polo or vw sharan, direcly fits in, slight bent needed to the opening tab on the door lock. Inner door handles comes in chrome on VW golf mk4 cabrio, you might need 2 sets for 4 doors. ALSO you can make front seats tilt and raise if you get seat bases from passat, it has 2 handles, a must mod if you are using oem mk3 seats, you just need to disassemble and cut/weld few spots to swap bases.
Dry ice blasting the undercarriage was so satisfying to watch! What a project. This series is so good, I was happy to run into you guys in Helen and see it up close in person. Congrats on an amazing build!
My first new car was a 1996 GTI and over 17 years had many mk3’s. I would love to find an old one for a project and rebuild it from the ground up. Great work guys!
Seriously digging this build series! I wish I could see you guys work together like this every week. Great chemistry and comradery between you two. Also, my UA-cam feed is seriously lacking in quality VW content.
Very cool! I love seeing all the work that's going into this. Most of the time, people gloss over all the errors and failures while doing a project like this.
On your interior pieces that you're repainting. Coat all the parts liberally with vanilla gain scent plug things. I paint it on with a brush and let it set up. Will peel all the old factory paint and gives a better bond
Loving this series guys! Can't wait to see the finished car. Mk3 jetta was my first newish car in college and I now drive a mk7.5 Gti. Loved the jetta and love the gti. This thing is going to be great!
Everyone in the comments talking about the dry ice blasting, how about Paul's drive right into the ice blasting bay with nothing but gravity on his side? Slick.
Nice job paul & charles. I own a 98 jetta glx vr6 12v. Nothing like a mk3 or mk4 my favorite Volkswagens. Yall did a hellva job guys. Even though its not a vr, & wont make wookies, its still a nice ass ride. 2.0T is a good motor to... keep up the European content fellas hope to catch & meet u guys at a vw show 1 day...
That Dry- Ice cleaning looks so great. Problems like the DSG not getting into gear is why I wouldnt touch/ cut away the original donor- car- wiring and keep most of the original switchgear. Everything talks to everything in these cars...
I just love the fact that you guys fool around and act like complete knuckleheads while working, yet you are building some top tier retrofit MK7 engine swapped car. Great content guys and keep up the good work!
If you guys were following your thread at VWvortex it was mention by me in post #48 that DSG has immobilizer. Also that is not only problem that you will have , speed signal for DSG is going to be your biggest problem , DGS gets speed signal from ABS in mk7 , even early mk5 and mk6 are same way . Good luck
mk3 front door panel, it's the mirror control. you probably broke a tab on the stalk for the mirror. those are a pain, they can bind up, and are screwed to everything under the sun DOUBLE CHECK THE ROOF DRAINS IF IT HAS A SUNROOF. they will flood the floor baaaaad. long tubes that should fit into some rubber boots down low in the a and b pillar areas dry ice blasting is like the final boss level in those pressure washing games
That dry ice blasting was the muts nuts, didn't knw about that. There was one thing I didn't like whn he painted the car he didn't take the side moldings off the doors and small bit on the rear arch so now whn it comes off there's gona be a different shade of white and where it's dirty between the molding and panel the paint dnt stick and will start to lift over time, it's a shame. 💯💯💯💯👌👌👌👌👍👍👍👍👊👊👊

That dry ice blasting is always such magic.
Looks like a rewarding job but you need to be someone who is close to perfectionist and not easily bored by the job itself :)
I don't know what it is but when man watches dry icing it just brings him peace!
Yeah the results mad would love to do it to my civic

Yes! This is the Best current build series on UA-cam atm.
This is going to be the hot new swap to do! That Jetta weights like 2500lbs! It’s VW version of Hondas swaps🔥 love it!
My first new car was a 1996 GTI and over 17 years had many mk3’s. I would love to find an old one for a project and rebuild it from the ground up. Great work guys!
I am seriously so excited to see this car finished!!!
This series is fantastic. Thank you.

God I wish dry ice blasting machines weren’t so expensive! That was so satisfying to watch!
Mk3smith should watch this series 🎉
I bet you Christian is watching this series. Miley would kick ass with a 2.0tsi
I think he would be the 1st to admit this would just a bit out of his skill set 😂

Very cool! I love seeing all the work that's going into this. Most of the time, people gloss over all the errors and failures while doing a project like this.
Is it just me or is the quality of these videos getting even better? Kudos guys love the collabs👏🏼
Those cars with the 1.8t were tanks and the two steps were crazyyy, love seeing what you guys are doing with the Jetta
I totally did my mk3 headliner and pillars when I was in high school. Haha, this was great! Kids!
The dry ice blasting is sooo satisfying!!
Such a great build. Really cool that a MK3 will have DSG
"Always double bag...... doesn't create friction at all..." Priceless

The Gas cap squeek Noise took me back to my old MK3 Golf. Thx for the flashback 😁

Ohhh yeah hope they give it better brakes and a valve controlled exhaust like a true mk7 owner
Good times nicely done
