I remember my dad telling me about seeing mike Hailwood at brands on it. Everyone else was just getting off the line on brabham straight when he was already entering paddock hill bend.
That’s my neighbor getting ready to go to work. Every day. 4:10 am on the dot. 6 days a week. He’s like a robot. I appreciate his ethics. I’m glad he’s working through COVID and all but, man alive, I wish he’d pick another route once in a while.
This bike is not a 250cc 6 cylinders but the replica (by George Beale who is present on the video) of a RC174, 297cc 6 cylinders who run in category 350, see the blue disk ! The 250 cc have green disk
Japan's angriest motorcycle. I had the good fortune to see this and a couple other bikes being wheeled out for Honda top brass at their headquarters at the IOM (50th anniversary?). I had snapped the clutch lever on my RC30 and someone suggested I go along and see if the Honda works team would lend me one. They didn't have one (were a bit sniffy about it actually) but I got to see the RC 166 being fired up. Nothing can prepare you for how loud this bike is.

I remember on the island in 1966 seeing and hearing the Honda 6 and the Yamaha 4. You could hear them from 5 miles away. The Honda sounded like a dog barking and the Yamaha sounded like a bumble bee in a jar....
But Standing next to Mike Hailwood on his 500 Honda 4 after finishing the 1968 Senior race.. I’ve got the pics. Thats a memory that gets engraved in your memory.
And the hotel where we were staying just next to it they housed Ago’s MV ‘s .My mate went outside and gave the mechanic a push to get the bike going. That was the days before pit garages and the bikes were all tested on the public roads before the races.
@@milojanis4901 I didn't realize that. Honda engineers weren't afraid to try things outside the box. I remember reading about their 500 road race bike with oval pistons and 22000 rpm's redline engine so peaky it stalled between down shifts.
@@CaptainSparkle thanks bud👌 I was interested to see if they built bikes like that without the side car but I just looked it up and I don't see any, pretty cool though

I think this is actually the 289cc version built to take on the 350cc world championship. If it was a 250cc bike, the side numberplate background should be green, not blue, which indicates it's not a 250.
Fastest speed I recall the 250 cc RC166 doing was 156 mph at the 1967 Belgian GP, the 250cc RD05A Yamaha V4 ridden by Phil Read went through the timing lights at 172mph during that race which Read won.

@@CaptainSparkle In fairness I've only owned five Honda's, rs 125 to race, a nc30 to get some no claims on the board after racing ,a vtech vfr and a cb1300. The rs was fantastic as was the nc30, the vfr was a let down, the 7000rpm that the valves kicked in should have come in at 3700rpm. My brother had a fireblade (The last model before the underseat exhaust) which having riden it back to back against my 1999 r1 wasn't as good, we both agreed that the Yamaha turned in quicker and sat on rails mid corner, along with being a lot more exciting once back on the gas. Since the number plates are blue, this must be the 297 cc, RC174, and not the RC166 250 cc
Soo cool
250cc on 6 zyl - wy that crazy engineering ?
@John LEON HONDA resigned from the GP because the organizers limited the number of cylinders in each class.
Check out the even more crazy RC 149. A 125 cc R5 engine with DOHC 4 valve heads.
That's the 297cc version with black numbers on a blue background.
When Honda ruled racing motorcycle development, 4 cylinder 125's and 6 cylinder 250's, until the governing said that Honda could'nt do that anymore.
Same thing with the Suzuki 50cc twin cylinder rev up to 21K rpm.
Anyway DKW also create turbo two stroke...
