    • @BuJammy
      @BuJammy 2 місяці тому +10

      @@HerniatedDiscGuy To be fair, you cannot really know that.
      Some people choose certain patterns because they want to be seen to be strong, unequivocally, while others play the game for leverage advantage, etc.
      People always say "the super-heavies don't pull sumo because of their shape/size, etc". This ignores the fact that most of the Westside SHW monsters pulled sumo, in the suits, but it also ignores the fact that super-heavies are in it for absolute strength, not relative. They want to be seen to be the strongest in the region/state/planet. The 242s, on the other hand, are ruling the records right now, pulling sumo - some "feet touching plates" sumo - and they picked that for a reason.
      Some will tell you they care about more than just winning at all costs, others not.
      Small example, I was at a meet in Northern Ireland about two years ago. Out of 48 men, 44 pulled sumo. (that's not just "suiting their unique leverages"). Out of 19 women, 17 pulled conventional. When I spoke to the women after, many were clear that they pulled conventional because they knew (or felt), as women, there would be extra scrutiny, and they wanted to be seen to be strong in absolute terms, no "leverage advantage", no questions, and so on.
      Anyway, that was a repetitive ramble, but you get my point.

    Haack's 365kg squat went to parallel at most from this angle. Good to know they don't always enforce that stupid below parallel rule.

    People that think "mass moves mass" is a linear slope just need to see how Johns lifts compare to Jesus, if your lifts are literally comparable at almost 100kg less then one can easily see how the slope is more like a bell curve than a straight line.

    • @senorgeese

      a surprising amount of people think it's linear despite how plainly obviously it is that it isn't

    • @Andremetheartist
      @Andremetheartist 2 місяці тому

      @@senorgeese Yeah I think if you have these two legendary names, even with Ray Williams for example a serious OG legend, and then John comes along at literally almost half their bodyweight and does the same lifts, I think it's safe to say it isn't linear. Or at least we can rule out that it's far more likely that its not linear than that "John is just a genetic outlier" because one can argue Jesus and Ray are also genetic freaks and they aren't deadlifting/squatting 4-5× their bodyweight

    • @THExJMC
      @THExJMC 2 місяці тому +1

      Obviously it's not linear, but it's closer to linear than some would think if you only compare lean mass. Those dudes are really fat and John is lean. He's also an outlier even amongst world elite lifters.
