Hi Peg. Thanks for mentioning Remembrance Day here in England. I always watch the service and march past from the Cenotaph in London on TV - it is very moving.

It is indeed. I live in the middle of Nowhere, USA and still try to watch at least part of it every year.

Hi Peg, I'm a recent viewer and subscriber. I have a couple of comments for you. A subscription to Strategy and Tactics in the mid 1970's included a wargame that meshed with the main article in the magazine. My friends and I used to play several of them, and they had stand-alone games. Red Star/White Star (modern day-1970's-combat in the Fulda Gap) and Foxbat vs. Phantom (dog fighting before we knew the Foxbat was a pure interceptor) were a couple of our favorites.
Growing up in Omaha, I saw many aircraft flying in and out of Offutt AFB, which was SAC headquarters at the time. Offutt would hold regular open houses which were great fun. One year in the early 1960s, the RAF sent over a Vulcan bomber for the event. When it arrived the day before that year's open house, it did low-level circles around Omaha. As a young boy, I was enthralled when that bat-winged beauty flew almost over our house. Great memory!
Very nice of you to do a Veterans Day video, but more important to me was the Marine Corps birthday the day before. Semper fi!

Thanks so much for your service, John! Semper fi, indeed! I appreciate your comments and memories of Offutt AFB. Every year I was stationed there, I worked the media tent for the annual air show with the Thunderbirds. Really cool stuff, and the community loved it!

I can’t believe I’m just finding your channel! I’m a Coast Guard vet, also a woman military history aficionado 😅 although not quite as knowledgeable as you! So glad to have a long backlist of your videos to check out.

More recommendations for me to buy at some point. How do you mark Veterans Day? We have two different 'events'. At 11:00 on 11th November we have a two minutes silence and then on the Sunday nearest we have the Remembrance Day ceremony itself. The main one being at the Cenotaph in Whitehall. Also why is Memorial Day on a different day? I know that culturally the First World War is less important to the USA than it is to Europe. I've been focusing on World War One for Remembrance Reads.

Great question! We essentially have TWO military recognition holidays in the States: Memorial Day is more akin to your Remembrance Day, while Veterans Day is a more general recognition for those who serve or have served.

No, I do not. This is it. I've toyed with the idea of doing a second channel, but it's just too much for me right now. Maybe when I retire from my day job.

I wanted to join the Air Force when I was younger but they wouldn’t accept me. As someone very interested in history, could you recommend a good starting place? Religion, War, something you think I’d like.

A great place to start is American history, which you can then broaden into more international history later on. American Revolution and the Civil War are my recs.

Happy Veterans Day, Peg. Dig the magazines and the Roxie. Give that fuzzy little bagel some treats and scratches for me!
Is there a convenient way to read your paper on the Overland Campaign? I've always found those engagements fascinating but disturbing. So much slaughter, some of it pretty much without purpose as far as I can tell.
Oh, and regarding that "Bleeding Kansas" game, I once saw a game called "St. Louis, Then Huzzah!" So I guess it has something to do with Earl Van Dorn. I wonder if the game ends when the General f---s around with the doctors wife and finds out.
But anyway, hope things are well, and have a nice week.
