Love ALL your products for the 73 through 87 C10 truck. Great products well put together just out of my price range. The average working man can’t afford stuff like that!!!!!!
Average working man with a wife and kid here..... I've got tubular suspension on my Skylark, front and rear. Handling and stopping are as high on the list for me as horsepower....
Great stuff. I use QA1 products on both my race cars. I just put QA1 coil overs on the rear of my 39 Ford. The techs got me the right springs and shocks first try. My friend had a 65 C-10 that had a 71 Cutlass frame stub grafted on. This would be a lot easier, cheaper in the long run, and safer.
Love yalls products amazing stuff with a hefty price. Just outta the budget for the everyday average working family guy. And b4 anybody says other wise I've seen a lot of very similar comments to mine on other post of there products
How many inches of height adjust would I have. If I bought this and install lowering spindles can i still adjust my height to go up or down? I would like to be around. 6/6 drop I love a slight rack lol
The drop spindle would give you 2" of drop and the coil over kit would also provide 2" of drop. You would still maintain adjustability in ride height with the coilover system. If you have any further questions reach out to our tech team!
Pricing will depend on if you already have the front kit and just need the crossmember, or if you are looking at the full front system. We are aiming to start shipping the end of the month.
For the lower control arm what’s the 2nd set of mounting holes on the pivot point? Is that so you can pull the wheel further in the wheel well or for a different year
It's a complete bolt-on system which helps with the installation. You do have to fully remove the engine to do this install which can take some time. Depending on your resources at home and experience, it could take a few days.
Question… usually these trucks the front tires stick out a bit more compared to the rear tires. Does this kit fix that? Or it stays the same as the factory k member?
This kit will retain the factory track width so that will not change from installing the front end kit. Some disk brake kits and aftermarket spindles can alter the track width, but the QA1 front end will not in itself change the position.
Dang, wish this was around 2 years ago. I’ve had your front coil over kit on my truck for about that long & with drop spindles. With the coil overs as low as they’ll go, while maintaining adequate travel, the lower coilover mount brackets are only 2 inches off the ground 😭.
We actually just released this crossmember about a month ago! And we do have a retrofit kit that will fit with your current setup. So you would just need to purchase the crossmember. Sway bar and engine mounts sold separately.
Does this crossmember “center” the wheels in the fender opening? As in move the wheel centerline forward. Also how many joints to connect the steering column?
I’m skeptical about trying to drill the one top hole for the upper shock mount because half of the hole in the frame is under the hole in the bracket. Might be a bear getting that one to turn out nice. Also, is it normal for the sides of the crossmember to be slightly higher than the frame?
Hi there! It's not a problem if a small portion of the pin is visible. The most crucial factor is ensuring the taper on the pin is fully seated within the steering arm. This is similar with a ball joint pin as well. If, for any reason, this is not the case for you, please call one of our technicians. They can confirm that everything appears normal. They can be reached at 952.985.5675.
Ok I have another question. My 65 C10 did not come with a swaybar. I added the swaybar links to the lower control arm and the end of the swaybar. After that I had my wife turn the steering lock to lock. I had the bushings and mounting brackets attached to the swaybar as well and I held it up to the bottom of my frame as I slid it closer to the crossmember. At one point I got too close and the tie rod hit the swaybar links so I moved it forward a little bit. The links don’t hang straight down but rather tilt forward a little bit towards the ends of the swaybar. How should it look and how much room is there supposed to be for up and down movement of lower control arms on rough roads or wheelies?
Do you guys make a coil over conversion for a 4wd chevy s10? If not you should. I have a 1998 gmc Sonoma 4x4 that I want to make into a 2 gen Syclone (awd and boosted) and it would be nice to get rid of the torsion bars with something that could bolt in mostly. Anyways nice products. 🙂👍🏼
We currently do not catalog anything for the 4WD trucks, but could possibly make a coil-over or shock setup work depending on your specs. Give us a call! 952-985-5675
@QA1 Most of the way through installing this system on my project. I already have QA1 uppers and lowers to retrofit, and they have bump stops. I noticed in your install they are not there, I'm assuming they aren't needed with the new setup?
The new crossmember eliminates the contact points that are on the OE crossmember so the stops are removed from the upper and lower arms. New bump stops are installed on the shocks and the tether is used as a droop stop.
Our complete front crossmember kit starts around $4000 and comes with 73-87 C10 ball joints. The CPP spindles should work, but feel free to reach out to our tech team for some recommendations! 952-985-5675
My 65 C10 does not have a locator hole for the front sway bar mount. Can you please give me a measurement from the front tip of the frame or some other reference point so I can be certain about its location?
We do not have a defined measurement for this, but we highlight it in our install instructions on how to properly install the sway bar on the 63-66 trucks. www.qa1.net/assets/uploads/documents/intallation_guides/9919-219_REV_52896_C10_Front_Sway_Bar.pdf
We do offer engine mounts for our crossmember. www.qa1.net/automotive/suspension/classic-trucks-conversion-systems/1963-1987-chevy-c10-tubular-crossmember
I’d like to retain my 15” rallies on a 70 C10 and noted the fit against the tie rod was tight even without the spacer. For reference, what width and backspace were those 15’s in the demo (and tire size)?
15” wheels with 3” drop spindles does require the spacer be removed for rod end to tire clearance which ends up being about ½” right at the edge of the rim. 2 ½” drop spindles will allow more clearance to the tire but the spacer still cannot be used. Stock height spindles can be used with the bump steer spacer and 15” wheels to achieve a 5” drop. 15” x 8” GM truck rally wheels (stock Truck Rally Wheel) 4” backspace with ¼” wheel spacer 3” drop spindles 255/60/15
@QA1 great could you send me a link thank also does qa1 make front end Steering components for a 1978 impala if so could you send me that link as well thanks
After installing my QA1 system, I added a POL rack and pinion. But had to remove it because the input shaft angle was so steep the steering joints were binding up when turned. This video does not show the instillation of the steering shaft to see if your angle is at a better pitch. Any Video coming ?
I'm delighted that a crossmember is available. I have front and rear QA1 suspension on a 66 C10 that I'm building with an L86 engine and Ultimate Headers. I'm very curious if the steering shaft will work with my setup. How can we determine the position of the steering shaft, to make sure there is clearance, before I make the purchase? Is there a template or measurements available?
This crossmember setup will not fit the C20 at this time. We do now offer a control arm, coil-over setup for these trucks. www.qa1.net/automotive/suspension/classic-trucks-conversion-systems/1967-1986-chevy-c20-1987-1991-chevy-r20-coil-over-front-suspension-kits
Some people think so! It provides major weight savings, gives you more ride height adjustability and can compliment your other upgraded suspension components nicely. However, if you are not in the market for a full crossmember upgrade, we still do offer the control arm and coil-over kit with the option to add the crossmember later.
If you already have our front system and just need the crossmember, that will start around $2200. If you are needing the whole entire kit, that will start around $3995 through our dealers.

Yes you do. You do not need to pull the front clip off like we did in this video. We did that for ease of filming.
May be a dumb question, these compatible for the k10 as well?
Not a dumb question! But at this time, it is not compatible with that truck.
Would you use a drop spindle or a stock hight spindle?
