I'm an avid Leinster fan and I have to agree with Mack Hansen. He's right. I was just waiting for the TMO to look at that and for Jordie to get at least a yellow and possibly a red. Mack says it happens a lot to Connacht. Maybe he's right. As for him being sanctioned, it's not so simple as I think Connacht are going to make an official complaint about the refereeing. Pete Wilkins the coach, said at that presser "I think we're going to have to talk to the referee bosses about this one." That's going to be a complaint.
Not having the TMO or other match officials ‘guiding’ the ref, will NOT serve to improve the standard of play nor increase the accuracy of the referees decisions. ‘Throwing the baby out with the bath water’ has NEVER produced any improvement.
This isn't a Leinster bias, this is a problem with referees in general. I watched this match and the amount of decisions that went against Leinster or were poorly refereed was incredible. This is an inconsistency with referees all the time not a bias.
Look closely, Barret even joined from the side of the ruck. That's the only way he could get to Aki because the scrummy was at the back of the ruck before Barret causing him to enter from the side.
Oh but when Rassie questioned some dodgy refereeing in the media EVERYBODY said he was overreacting. I bet Connaught wish they had a coach with the balls to stand up to bad refereeing and calk the on their bs like Rassie did. Refereeing in the URC and in the last tour of the Southern Teams to the northern hemisphere has been shockingly inconsistent.
So this incident serves your purpose in pushing the 'Springboks/SA Clubs are always the Victims' trope. The problem with officiating is endemic across rugby union all over the planet. You want to point fingers at who actually is to blame? Try EVERY TIER 1 NATION that plays rugby union - they have had 2 decades + of the professional game in which to work out a common interpretation of the rules/laws of the game for match day officials to use and enforce. We still don't have that as is commonly shown when teams from the NH & SH meet for internationals or, when teams from different leagues meet (URC vs Top 14 vs Premiership, for example). This is one area that World Rugby should be given complete control of by all of the other unions.
Typical saffa comment. Rassie made a hit piece that was intended to black mail the refs. He conveniently ignored all the calls that went the boks way. After the threats, the refs handed them in the series
I agree the refs do have a bias against weaker teams! On last Saturday the first try of Lions was cancelled.Again when when a lions player knocked the forward on his chest and was called a knock on by the ref. None of the Stormers try’s were looked at!
Hansen is right to voice his opinion. Also he is pointing out what is not perceived but is happening. We always hear of players being adjudicated upon why not all officials as well as the Match Day Directors
Mack is correct and he shouldn't be fined for speaking the truth. Mack was also tackled off the ball after he kicked it. This prevented him from getting access to chase the ball. Yet nothing from the ref. TMO must have been scrolling through his phone at times during the match
Rugby went pro in the early 1990's for the players, as of Dec 2024 we are still waiting for administration to turn pro. As long as amateurs run the game, we won't see any growth.
Many years ago an Irish 🇮🇪 referee sent off (1950/60s) Sir Colin Meads in a Scotland/New Zealand game he never referred another international game!!! Why?
Bundi's left knee is on the ground as he attempts to compete for the ball (1:19), with his head tucked. He's in an illegal position, Rugby is a contact sport. How do you expect to clean a ruck in this scenario? Any how contact by Barrett is to the left shoulder and Bundi is A Okay just clutching his head to show the ref. Play on.
Hanson is spot on. The three Barret brothers regularly get yellow cards and some red cards. Like most ALL Blacks, they play on the margins. We see it all the time in Australia
The bigger picture here is not that Mack Hansen is right (WHICH HE MOST CERTAINLY IS). This is just another example of the lack of proper investment in to the development of competent officiating in Rugby Union at every level in both hemispheres.
Bring back proper rucking with feet and all this jackel bullshit will disappear as there won’t be players in this position leaning over rucks. No one ever really got hurt from rucking.
The whole clearing thing, where the man has his head all the way down, it's kinda impractical really. Happened to Manie this weekend, and I believe PSDT got a red card against France few years back. How do you even do it, legally?
Totally agree. Bundee had no business being in there - the tackler had not rolled and his body position (like every other jackler) does not allow for a clear out whilst entering on feet & through the gate. If Barrett had confidence that the ref would penalise Aki he wouldn't have to do that.
Its each players responsibility to entre safely. The cost of insurance will end the game if this isnt enforced as annoying as it is but its about the game surviving. Bundee had every right to be there protecting the ball plus he came in the right way.
Aki didn't help himself with clutching his pearls, I mean head, in a hey ref it's not fair arm waving drama. If he was badly hurt that would not be the response.
Jordy is an Alll Black. Until the last couple of years, they never got called out for transgressions. It made those close game losses hurt. Mac got so e Rassie fever going😂
The officiating is really diabolical and supporters as well as players have to experiencing questionable conduct of officials weekend after weekend. We want to debate a good game not the inconsistencies of officials
This is really bad for Irish Rugby.... looking at the stunned and amazed reactions of New Zealander, British, French, Australian and South African pundits to the numbers of fans, over 80,000 Fans, at the Munster V Leinster match in Croke Park this URC, showed now good Irish Rugby was. The IRFU needs to deal with this issue, if stupid referring leads to Connacht or Ulster fans giving up support then the sport will die off in Ireland. When Irish Teams are playing the IRFU needs to keep the standards in the playing and the referring, and we have seen discipline in the Irish National team fall off a cliff, it cost Ireland against New Zealand and nearly did against both Argentina and Australia.
Didn’t see that hit on Aki from where I was sitting in the stadium but I did see Hansen have a real good go at the Touch Judge. And he appeared not to hold back. As a Leinster fan I’m happy with the win but Jordi really should have gotten a yellow card there for that careless entry into the clear out and the contact on Aki’s head.
Single biggest problem is inconsistency by refs. During the world cup a player was carded for the slightest head contact. Nowadays each potential head-infrinchment decision - IF being reacted upon, is like a lucky packet - never know what you gonna get. It's becomming a farce!
He’s ABSOLUTELY bang on. Welsh teams have been playing in Ireland for 20 years and I can GUARANTEE there is no such thing as a 50/50 decision against irish teams especially Leinster. But games against Connacht are well reffed bizarrely. Now SA teams are experiencing it. Welcome to the Irish URC
Nah wales are just crap. Their bitter little refs ruin any game that they’re involved in. Any game played in wales, the whiny Welsh commentators are up their teams own backside, and are crying for the refs to help them out.
Hanson has a point, refs tend to favour the dominant team, unconsiously TBF since the struggling team tend to give more clumsy looking images to the ref. Where Matt was unwise imo was to make emotional allegations since this only means the blazers will have to sanction him.
Just like a footballer when he throws his arms in the air to convince the ref he has been fouled Boundi Aki knows that touch my head and it is a penalty. They are both too stupid to realise if you really have been fouled or experienced foul play you cannot react like that you are too stunned. Aki should be banned
Definitely biased towards Leinster. You can't touch them it's practically the Ireland XV. Glad MH has come out and said this. Put the officials under the spotlight.Looks like blatant cheating some of the decisions they make. IRFU only gives a shit about Leinster at the moment. You can see that a mile away. I'm not a Irish rugby fan and even I can see it. Playing their games at the Aviva , Croke park. Having the rub of the green in European cups playing all their matches at the Aviva. It's wrong !. The other 3 provinces are struggling and slowly getting worse because of it.
Mack is 100 % right , it's disgraceful that these incidents were not even looked at , did the video and assistance refs go to the bar for a couple of pints , and if they didn't, they might as well have Connaught deserve better that this .
i can't comment about refs against leinster in general, but this one had to be at least a yellow card if not a red card, i think fans would except decisions, if refs were rated after each game and fans could see the rating and if after the game for instance this ref got like formula one a penalty or 2 against his refing licence, then we fans would at least be feeling the ref did not get away with this, all fans just want to see fairness, i support the stormers and if a stormer player did this, i say give him a red card
Jordie’s chest made contact with the back of his head with a slow moving downward force, it was not a full speed contact….much like when front rows engage
In a contact sport it is almost impossible to adjudicate on every suspect contact. With increasing demands on safety, the game be subjected to repeated and increased interruption, thereby detracting from the flow of the game. In addition the game will be continually beset with controversy as each decision comes down to someone's interpretation.
Leinster received two YCs. Connacht received the bulk of favourable calls. - Cordero jumping into King and earning a penalty - Murphy throwing a punch at Snyman - Connacht infringing constantly at the scrum but getting no YC Ioani DIDN'T get a "direct hit to the head", he fell backwards and whacked his head into the ground.
We have the same problem here in NZ. Many teams we play perceive that the All Blacks receive favouritism from refs. The better the player the more the perception of cheating or favourtism arises. The opposition just cannot understand how some players can play that well. Therefore he must be cheating. Richie Mc Caw says that as a result of his high profile he was under more scrutiny than other players. He tells of hearing a warning at a maul from the ref "Hands off Number Seven." Richie was standing behind the ref, and even in the maul. I have seen instances of the kicker of the ball being penalized for being offside at the kick off simply because the ref could not believe that the player could run that fast. IMHO, you are scraping the bottom of the barrel for complaining in this instance. Neither player was moving fast. No one was injured. Barret's shoulder made more contact with the other player. The ref saw the incident and decided to let play carry on. I doubt if any ref would allow his parochial preferences to risk his position as a ref. Most of them love the game too much.
Every single game Leinster play it's apparently ref bias in our favour and unfair. Even get this shite from Toulouse and bulls fans, whose teams often beat us. It's nothing but sour grapes and bad sportsmanship.
What a load of crap - look at the position Aki was in with his head down - was there a follow through from Barrett to suggest it was a cleanout OR does it look like Barrett joined the ruck?? How much of the effect of the cleanout comes from the Leinster Loosehead OR how much of the cleanout from the Leinster Loosehead changes Aki's head position towards Barrett to which Barrett has NO reaction time???
It's great to see so many armchair refs in the comments section. Embarrassing from Mack and hopefully he receive a nice ban for this. The officials have a hard enough job without some whinge complaining about 1 tackle.
Totally agree with Mack Hansen. TMO must have nodded off. Connacht suffered the same bias in a Munster/ Connacht derby about 4 years ago. A crossfield kick from Munster showed Tadgh Beirne AND Simon Zebo were offside. This was supported by the 22 metre line playing an active part in the play which should have made it easier for the TMO Brian McNeice to call an offside. Nothing to see here was the result . Connacht dropped 4 points that evening which were instrumental in Connacht not qualifying for the Heineken Cup the following year. Deplorable bias
I see no issue with JB clean out. Aki has lowered his head with no chance of getting to the ball but has done so, so what happen would happen. If his head was up and JB hit well fair enough a yellow card, but because his head is low for no purpose he is impeding the clean out.
Fair play to him, the bias is in favour of Leinster, always has been. Just look at the central contracts, doesn't help when Faz is gone so far up Leo Cullens arse
If you made a case for him going off his first or coming in from the side, you would have a bit of a point. Possibly not enough to earn a penalty, because that's just rugby. As for the illegal contact? That's a rugby incident, mate.
Frustrating for Connacht for it not to be checked. I don't watch Connacht enough to have much an opinion on how they are officiated. But I can say from watching Leinster that they get screwed by refs their fair share of times as well. However, was this an aggressive clearout? He didn't look to me like he came in with much force. Dropped his weight on one side and stayed on one knee. Not like he was flying over the top of ruck, off his feet and into an opponent with massive force. We do see that often enough. Not sure exactly what this deserves as I'm not a ref.
Referees win or lose matches .blind Irish Referees as Max Boyce sang , Hanson is correct try get a decision against England at Twickenham. Poor cheating by ref Bennetton v Zebre because Zebre were going to win .PS that particular ref is ruubbish
I thought you private school Rugby fans liked to turn you noses up at us poor working class football fans, and spend your days telling us how brilliant your referees are. You even have whole videos dedicated to it. What do you mean they might be biased? In Rugby? Surely not!!!
Until you make an hour-long analysis video complaining about every decision and ensuring you get every marginal call for the next 8 years enabling you to win every knock-out game in the world cup by a single point, you are no where near the line.
IMO, and just going off this one replay not at normal speed, there didn’t look to be much in it, Bundee reels away clutching his head looking straight for the referee, and then smiling moments later. Seemed to be milking it in my opinion, there’s just way too much of it in the game today.
…. but it is the Springboks that are the problem in Rugby today. Years ago, Mr. Erasmus (“Rassie”) produced a video indicating just how inept the rugby match officials are … but he was criticised for this. The N.Hemishere officials are notorious for their erratic calls, their frequent bouts of ‘blindness’, their bias towards one of the teams, etc. We know that the current standard of match officiating is pathetic, it has been for years. But we still wait for the inept IRB to actually take meaningful action against their officials. Why are the rugby match officials performance NOT subjected to the same post match scrutiny as the South African rugby players are ???
Hanson 100% correct. Rugby officialdom is destroying the game by their perpetual inconsistency in dealing with these matters..... and it is not as if these are borderline incidents..... they are BLATANT! Every week we have this happening..... no other sport has to deal with this and it is a real turn off for this fantastic game of ours..... for goodness sake hold officials accountable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😡😡😡😡
From South Africa....he is justified...get rid of the TV ref...
When we raised issues with the ref, then we were just "complainers".
Sadly no TV ref favours NZ and it is a part of all sports now unfortunately. It must just be used correctly.
Did Tappe Henning die? Why don't we hear from him? At the moment, he's equally effective, dead or alive. Get rid of him.
Good man Mac tell it as it is
Look closely, Barret even joined from the side of the ruck. That's the only way he could get to Aki because the scrummy was at the back of the ruck before Barret causing him to enter from the side.

I fully agree with mack.
Many years ago an Irish 🇮🇪 referee sent off (1950/60s) Sir Colin Meads in a Scotland/New Zealand game he never referred another international game!!! Why?
Because Meads was the Darling of NZ and how dare a paddy send off the golden boy
@@michaelvdunne today Colin Meads would have been suspended.
Inconsistency and incompetence, not bias
Why don't Lesser teams get their share of decisions if it's not bias. Law of averages and all that!
What's wrong with the clean out?
Bundi's left knee is on the ground as he attempts to compete for the ball (1:19), with his head tucked. He's in an illegal position, Rugby is a contact sport. At least they get cards now. In the McCaw era they were far worse and got away with everything. Its half the reason they were so dominant.
😆
Ireland seem to get plenty of key decisions over past few years as well
A poor argument - it lends NO proof to the incident here!!!!!
Referees are deciding the game not the players, it's a joke!
The bigger picture here is not that Mack Hansen is right (WHICH HE MOST CERTAINLY IS). This is just another example of the lack of proper investment in to the development of competent officiating in Rugby Union at every level in both hemispheres.
As long as it isn’t Rassie pointing out the obvious, hmm.
Hanson is 100% correct
Well said Mac.
No Bias. Just very very bad officiating. Rather than scrutinizing Hanson, Look at officials and their abilities.
Bring back proper rucking with feet and all this jackel bullshit will disappear as there won’t be players in this position leaning over rucks. No one ever really got hurt from rucking.
Jordie came from the side that's about it
its bullshit bro...its been happening for years that the refs protect the 1'st tear teams...very frustrating for sure!!
It's not just Leinster it's Ireland too. But when the ref/TMO does their job Ireland underperform as we saw in the Autumn. 😅
Just fire the ref!!!
Wait until Nigel Owens weighs in on the matter
Agreed with the players! We are sick and tired of ref's under performance week after week with zero consequences.
That is just not acceptable
You can alter, disguise, conceal the truth as much as you want but the truth still stands. End. 🇿🇦
They should fine the referee.
The whole clearing thing, where the man has his head all the way down, it's kinda impractical really. Happened to Manie this weekend, and I believe PSDT got a red card against France few years back. How do you even do it, legally?

Croc roll ban means it’s incredibly difficult and risky to attempt these clean outs now.
Its each players responsibility to entre safely. The cost of insurance will end the game if this isnt enforced as annoying as it is but its about the game surviving. Bundee had every right to be there protecting the ball plus he came in the right way.
lots of these lads should be playing soccer.
Aki didn't help himself with clutching his pearls, I mean head, in a hey ref it's not fair arm waving drama. If he was badly hurt that would not be the response.
100 per cent agree with Hanson is the reff blind
Look at the comments 2-3 years ago. SA was constantly called complainers when valid concerns were raised.
Jordy is an Alll Black. Until the last couple of years, they never got called out for transgressions. It made those close game losses hurt. Mac got so e Rassie fever going😂
😆
It's a joke that certain teams always get away with crap like this
The officiating is really diabolical and supporters as well as players have to experiencing questionable conduct of officials weekend after weekend. We want to debate a good game not the inconsistencies of officials
They deside who wins They killing rugby

Definitely biased towards Leinster. You can't touch them it's practically the Ireland XV. Glad MH has come out and said this. I'm a Munster fan and I 100% agree.
The Discipline issue in the Ireland national team is also coming from Leinster getting away with stuff..
Tatally agree.....shocking
I believe that he will also be suspended like Rassie Erasmus
Hanson is right in from the side as well
Mack is 100 % right , it's disgraceful that these incidents were not even looked at , did the video and assistance refs go to the bar for a couple of pints , and if they didn't, they might as well have Connaught deserve better that this .
RUBBISH.......That was not a head to head collision. Bundi is a drama queen.
Mack is 100% correct.
leinster has always been favoured over other teams. ive seen this happen many times when they play. especially when they played SA teams.
i can't comment about refs against leinster in general, but this one had to be at least a yellow card if not a red card, i think fans would except decisions, if refs were rated after each game and fans could see the rating and if after the game for instance this ref got like formula one a penalty or 2 against his refing licence, then we fans would at least be feeling the ref did not get away with this, all fans just want to see fairness, i support the stormers and if a stormer player did this, i say give him a red card

I'm from leinster and I agree with connaught

Hey man just say "Con-it", trust me im irish. Good lad for covering the content though, take care.

I agree. Leinster are protected. It feels like refs are being paid by the top teams.

at best its a yellow card and at worst its still a penalty and a warning to the players concerned but refs are not consisttant
You lost. Get over it. You are becoming like soccer players
Mack was 100 percent right connacht never get the decisions the touch judges tmo and referee all wrong
And what did the big bosses of rugby do with Rassie when he aired his frustration about a ref?????
Anybody remember when rugby was a contract sport?

Jordi got away with one ! However match after match, players get away with that.
Think Mack should calm …
I thought you private school Rugby fans liked to turn you noses up at us poor working class football fans, and spend your days telling us how brilliant your referees are. You even have whole videos dedicated to it. What do you mean they might be biased? In Rugby? Surely not!!!
Monetary penalising the ref review team for blindness will help some 🤔
Surly research can be done to prove or disprove unconscious bias towards ’stronger’ rugby teams….great PhD topic.
Certain players & teams get preferential treatment. Been going on for decades.
Why are the rugby match officials performance NOT subjected to the same post match scrutiny as the South African rugby players are ???
it was on his left shoulder not head nothing to check
Don't worry too much about Leinster, they lose every final they play 😝
Apart from the numerous ones they win lol 😂
Fine for freedom of speech?
Hanson 100% correct. Rugby officialdom is destroying the game by their perpetual inconsistency in dealing with these matters..... and it is not as if these are borderline incidents..... they are BLATANT!
Every week we have this happening..... no other sport has to deal with this and it is a real turn off for this fantastic game of ours..... for goodness sake hold officials accountable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😡😡😡😡
