  • The Navajo Trail/Queens Garden loop trail in Bryce Canyon National Park is a trail no lover of Wild Spaces should miss.
    The National Park Service is so sure of the quality of this hike, that they've posted a sign at the beginning of the Queen's Garden portion of the loop which names this trail as "The Best Three Mile Hike in the World".
    We've not found a better one. This world famous hike is actually made up of a portion of the Queen's Garden Trail and a section of the Navajo loop trail. Either hike is itself well worth your time, but combining the two is an amazing hiking experience.

    Did you do sunrise to sunset or vice versa? and at what time of the day? Also what time does wall street part get good sunlight to get good photos?

    • @HomeInWildSpaces
      @HomeInWildSpaces  5 років тому +1

      I’ve hiked from both sunrise to sunset and visa versa. Not sure one is clearly better than the other.
      Generally, you can’t beat early morning on a clear day. Crowds are smaller or nonexistent and the light is stunning.
      As for best lighting along Wall Street, hmm... hard to say exactly. I’ve had luck later in the morning (9-11am during late spring). But seasons and the sun’s position change and clouds can mute the light. Can’t offer you any guarantees.
      Hope that helps! Thanks for watching and commenting!!!! Best wishes on your travels. Remember to Leave No Trace, even at the expense of the perfect picture.

    Is this a loop trail? Does it take you through queens garden, 2nd part of Navajo loop, sunset point and through the rim trail back to sunrise point? How long does the hike approximately take?

    • @HomeInWildSpaces
      @HomeInWildSpaces  4 роки тому

      The Queen's Garden/Navajo trails combined can form a loop. You can start/complete the loop at either sunrise or sunset points.
      Time needed to complete the hike will vary from person to person. Distance is ~ three miles, with ~600ft elevation change.
      Hope that helps. Thanks for watching and commenting! Remember to stay safe and Leave No Trace!

  • @boomboompao411

    is this an out and back hike or a loop? awesome video...if we can only hike one trail in Bryce Canyon..is this the one?

    • @HomeInWildSpaces
      @HomeInWildSpaces  6 років тому +1

      This is a loop hike, begin at either sunrise or sunset points.
      Hard to say if there is just one hike that is better than the rest. This trail and the Peek-a-boo loop are generally the most popular. But you can also connect trails for a more complete experience.
      Best of luck on your trip! Please remember to stay on trail, and Leave No Trace.

    After watching your preview video, I was eager to see the full version, and I wasn't disappointed! This is one of your best videos! I've unfortunately never been to Bryce Canyon yet... I knew it was cool, but I didn't know it was THAT beautiful!
    Anyways, my constructive criticism...
    1) The words at the beginning kinda annoyed me, because I wanted to see the hoodoos instead of the text. Maybe that story about the ancient people turned into hoodoos would have been better off as a voice narration? But I know voice narrations are difficult if you don't have a good narrator voice (I don't, but I still narrate most of my videos anyways haha).
    2) A little bit too much "camera following behind the hiker" scenes. They got repetitive and weren't showing anything new or spectacular.
    But like I said, this video was awesome! Excellent job!!

    • @HomeInWildSpaces
      @HomeInWildSpaces  9 років тому

      ***** Thanks a ton for the feedback Andrew! Were there specific sections of the video where you thought we used too many "following the hiker" shots? Or is that just a general comment? We've kind of adopted that approach for our featured hike videos to make it more of a virtual experience for the viewer, but we are certainly open to other suggestions.
      We also appreciate your feedback regarding the Paiute legend. We went back and forth for a while regarding doing a narration or telling the story with text. We were worried about the length of the opening shots and if they would hold the viewers attention if we were to do a narration, but the amount of text required was also a concern. In the end our schedule ultimately made the decision for us. We'll definitely keep your feedback in mind if we find another "legend" to share in our future videos.
      On that note, did you think the legend was an effective addition, or would it have been better if we had simply focused on the trail? Let us know. Thanks again! We're so happy you still enjoyed it. Bryce Canyon is really spectacular, and hiking among the hoodoos is well worth your time.

    • @andrewbares
      @andrewbares 9 років тому

      I actually enjoyed the legend! That legend was particularly neat. Usually I'm not a fan of those, but it worked well in this instance!!
      2:40 - 3:00 in particular stood out to me with too many "following the hiker" shots. In my opinion, the issue is when you're using multiple of those cuts all in a row. I would add some variety (like you did in most of the video) and switch between some landscape, and then one following behind, and then some more landscape. Seeing 3 cuts in a row of following behind wasn't really showing the viewer anything new and impressive there, just felt like it added time. You could try getting some shots from the front too, to shake up the POV.
      But now I understand that you're going for a more virtual hiking experience... that explains those POV walking shots. I don't think I really saw many of those in your older videos, you seemed to use the stationary tripod almost all the time.
      Combining all these techniques is working really well, it keeps the video interesting throughout! I'd just use fewer "following the hiker", especially in back-to-back cuts. Or shake them up with "in front of hiker, as hiker walks by, looking at epic view behind", etc.

    • @HomeInWildSpaces

      ***** Thanks again for the feedback! After working on a project for a while it's great to get feedback from someone with fresh eyes. We'll keep your advice in mind when working on other videos in the future. If you have anymore tips, please feel free to share. They're always welcome.
