As a Norwegian my experience with American tourists and expats has always been very positive, my general impression is that Americans are the most outgoing of all the nationalities I've met and they are always easy to talk to and fun to hang out with.
I was in Japan once. I found the school uniforms fascinating so I asked some students passing by if I could take their photo. I had to try and use hand gestures and finally one of the girls stepped forward, took my camera and took a photo of me. It was so awkward, I just said thank you. @Koal Kottentail Younger Chinese tourists are different. They don't fit into the stereotype. Like in this video a lot of those stereotypes for Americans are of boomers not millennials

99% of them are. I have encountered some in York and the Lake District who werent particularly pleasant about the local accents . They weren't exactly easily to understand though . Please don't do this . Please keep your opinions to yourself . People are happy to talk slower and more clearly . But don't make fun of their accents
I once saw an Amercian tourist yelling at a subway employee because he couldn't undetstand the Australian accent for some reason. English is the main language of most Australians.
When I visited the Dominican Republic, the hotel staff thought we were Canadian because we were polite instead of rude, stereotypes are annoying, and more American tourists need to be nicer to others.
Well it wasn’t a tourist but one time when I worked on a friends dairy farm a German family made a visit to try multiple items we had available. Only one out of the five spoke somewhat English but it was still hard to understand. I had to go get my boss as she and her family knew both English and German fluently so I just stood there like an idiot watching the two chatter in German and complete a regular business deal, but I didn’t understand a word that was said the whole time. 😂
I was studying in Germany and was the only one in my group from the USA that spoke German... this one guy was trying to get me to ask 20 questions with the bartender about what beer would be the best for him.
The one time I left America for Germany (and eventually a few other places in Europe), one of the things that shocked me most was the restaurant culture. Waiters in America, for example, come up to your table frequently to ask how you are doing or if you need anything else. Waiters in Europe don't because this is apparently rude or disruptive behavior over there. I was, however, filled with anxiety when I had to try to flag down a waiter because it made me feel like I was interrupting them which is very rude. Waiters in America will come to see you as soon as they are not busy. Another thing is the water. Water in America, or at least hot places like here in Florida, is free. It is actually illegal in Florida to not give a person water when asked for them or for their pet as it could lead to heatstroke or other ailments. So it surprised me that not only was the water not free, but you also had to ask for water without gas (aka non sparkling water). Lastly, the amount of time people spent dining weirded me out. In America, people (not always but) usually eat quickly at the restaurant and if they can't finish their meal they will get the rest to go and just leave. The meal is a social experience but hanging out can be continued somewhere else afterwards as taking up a seat in a restaurant means that the restaurant can't give that seat to another person and take their money. Staying for too long means that you are taking up the business's time and space that could otherwise be spent servicing someone else unless you are planning to order more food and therefore pay more. So, unless the restaurant was at least half empty, I never understood why Europeans would take so long in dining. It felt rude to the restaurant owner to stay for longer than necessary but that is their culture so I'll chalk it up to one of those things I'll just never understand.
I feel like the uptight or "my money can buy anything" vibe is because only people with money travel outside of country. And here, that's exactly how those people are. Ignorant, but it doesn't matter, they have money, they don't need anything else out here. We hate it here, too. But there's really no use trying to change it because those types of people are really dense. I for one, have always been poor, I'm bilingual, learning a third language, I like learning about other cultures, and I try to be polite. But people with money here don't usually do that, though.

When i was on the bus coming home from school a few years ago, an American teen came sat next to me and started trying to get to know me and telling me about her life. I get she was trying to be friendly as seemed really nice, but i was a shy English school kid and got a-bit freaked out by the sudden conversation as we tend not to speak to strangers on the bus.
yeah i remember going to germany because i love german culture (i researched manners and know some german) and tried to be as respectful as possible but i was denied service for “being american” which is sad (and borderline xenophobic)
I was vacationing in south Korea with my wife. We went for a walk in downtown Akpo. I should mention that Neither my wife nor I are Korean and Akpo isn't a large tourist destination. We where there visiting her father and mother who both worked in the country in high paying professional jobs. so we kinda stuck out amongst all the Koreans. While we where walking a young salary-man on a bike rode by us and stared so much at us that he ran right into an elderly man on a scooter. He flipped over his bike and the old man's scooter nearly careened right into busy traffic. We found out later that Korea doesn't have the same taboo against staring at people that other countries in the west do. If they can be so easily distracted by a couple of foreigners taking a walk to the shops then maybe they should start appropriating a culture of not staring at people. xD
This reminds me of my trip when I was in the American War Museum in Vietnam, a really incredible place which shows the history of the American Vietnam War. There's victims of Agent Orange on the top floor followed by Swaths of farmlands and settlements being obliterated to craters, which was so upsetting to see. And there was this American tourist going around the museum with a studded T-shirt with an American flag and loads of guns on it and right in the middle with big bold writing, *”FREEDOM!, THE AMERICAN WAY!.”*

Its because they think u dont notice it if u do tell dem

@Koal Kottentail Younger Chinese tourists are different. They don't fit into the stereotype. Like in this video a lot of those stereotypes for Americans are of boomers not millennials

I'll put it here. When I traveled in Europe, many people were genuinely relieved when we told them we were not American.

What do you do for a living? I mind my own business Bihhhhh!!😂😂😂😂😂😂 Freaking loved that part!😂
I speak spanish, french, and a little Portuguese. I visit El Salvador and Canada frequently and almost none of those stereotypes apply to me.
The last time i came so early my girlfriend left me

I feel like the uptight or "my money can buy anything" vibe is because only people with money travel outside of country. And here, that's exactly how those people are. Ignorant, but it doesn't matter, they have money, they don't need anything else out here.
We hate it here, too. But there's really no use trying to change it because those types of people are really dense. I for one, have always been poor, I'm bilingual, learning a third language, I like learning about other cultures, and I try to be polite.
But people with money here don't usually do that, though.
Dude I swear I do like more than half of these 😂😂

If they can be so easily distracted by a couple of foreigners taking a walk to the shops then maybe they should start appropriating a culture of not staring at people. xD
"Americans smile a lot and are overly friendly"... Just dont talk about our guns. Then we're not so nice
