For anyone wondering about unloading/purging - an update's just been released that lets you edit articulations like in pro, so you only need to have the ones that you're using stored in the RAM, which makes it much more usable
Did they fix the problem of playing double notes in staccato with violins? It may affect probably all strings or all instruments... did not tested everyone of em but had the problem from the start as soon as I try to play two identical short notes in a row with violin. It play only one that is the length of both... frustrating. 😕 Hope it gets fixed. @christianhenson @paulthompson
Yeah, I found out how to do the purging very recently, and I went to the score I'm working on at present, and took out all the articulations I know I will not neet. It turned a 6.18GB project into a 5.2GB project. Nearly a whole GB right there!
The speed with which you compose stuff and the confidence you have while doing it is something I admire. As someone who has just gotten into this kind of thing and has no musical background whatsoever it's really fascinating to see.
Guy, i absolutely love your videos, it's a delight to sit back and watch, you're so enthusiastic and it's a joy to see you composing and working through a piece. Guy, watching and listening as this composition comes together is inspiration to us fellow composers. Very nicely done. Spitfire clearly has a winner on their hands with this library too. Thank you.
The reason you’d rather write something slow and sad on a gloriously sunny day in the uk, is because gloriously sunny days in the uk are so rare! I’ve lived in London for over 12 years and love this country. Jokes aside, when the sun comes out over there it feels like Devine sparkling dust is being casted upon humanity. No wonder why you’d get so inspired then. And oh Goodness, you did get inspired indeed! What a great short piece you’ve improvised with just a single stroke. I’m finding this deeply touching. 'Final piece is magical. 'Love it! 😎 😎 😎
I always love your videos Guy, and the massive enthusiasm, wit and humour you bring to every one (plus the cameos by Mr H Zimmer and the Sunglasses of Doubt)... Just when I thought the video was done giving me a good chuckle, I almost spat my coffee out at that comment. Not to worry though as it's definitely not 90 degrees outside any more, so the consumption of boiling liquids is back on the agenda!
Guy, your first video (and I can't remember the topic), I was not sure if I would subscribe to you. Then, I kept seeing you with Spitfire Audio tools and demo'ing those, and I'm loving your output. I just did your Music Theory in 18 minutes (loved that), and since I just bought BBCSO Core, of course I'm loving this. Thanks for putting out such quality stuff, and thank you for talking about how this sample library provides some uniqueness. Lovely music you played by the way. Thank you for all you do!
I am completely in love with how you manage your orchestration ideas and how you see past the vst and in to the real life where the recordings and actual human beings play. Love it.
What a frightful piece of music, but an absolute delight to spend time in your wonderful company. Thank you. Core is " almost" all you need to deliver convincing orchestral music right out of the box. I augment it with the Chamber Strings, which I already owned; you need those close mics and legatos to help "sell" the idea it is a real orchestra. I also use the Symphonic Brass and Symphonic Woods, AND the solo strings, which essentially means, core is just for sketching, you will need more ammunition to actually deliver convincing orchestra music out of the box to the public, which is entirely 'do-able' with BBCSO PRO, or augmentation with earlier libraries. So, Core is only worth every penny...if you buy Pro. Also, well worth mentioning, Spitfire has templates, large and small for these libraries, for Logic, etc, and they can save you many hours of routing and setting up tracks for all of the articulations, etc. Pretty mind blowing. Those templates are one of the best freebies out there.
Guy just seeing you work from scratch is just fabulously genius. You inspire me a lot. I love this piece you composed. The first part of the intro sounds a bit like the theme of the movie Interstellar scored by Hans Zimmer but in major. Please keep making these videos as they always put a smile on my face. It's like "what will he come up with now?" I just enjoy watching your videos. I love your creativity, your passion, your dedication and everything you put into it. You're such a beautiful soul. The great news is, if you send your decent demo off to a mixer who has the full SO package, they can apply the mic positions and fine tune it. Brilliant!
Thanks again Guy... incredibly inspirational as always. Bought CORE, using the Spitfire template with tracks enabled as required and was able to follow through perfectly well using just an I5 processor with a measley 16GB RAM... bit of a test as main PC to one side at the moment. No pops, clicks or otherwise... using Cubase 10.5 Really enjoyed this video. Would love to see how you go about using Core to write a cue for film or TV. Sometimes the sheer breadth of proposition and instruments available can be daunting knowing which to start with... followed your video step by step and will probably use similar structure to start next time. Thanks again for your superb content... Cheers!

Hi there! Due to the absurd little amount of MB that discovery is, the instruments are a lot processed and synthetic (compared to Kontakt factory library and strings for the free LABS you can evidence that). You would said the instruments in Core sounds a lot better? I ask because it's supposed to be the same samples. Thank you for your awesome content!
Tomás Palazzi I don't know the exact process, but I know in discovery the samples are very simplified. For example there are no round robins and I believe the reverb and what not are essentially "baked in" or something so you can't control it and that's how they get the sizes so small. I just bought core and am loving it so far!
Not even sure if these things will be read anyone! Guy, thank you so much for an entertaining and informative introduction to BBCSO core. I am not trained in musical theory, however it is very inspiring to see your approach of "just give it a try". Definitely subscribing to your channel. You sir are a great influence on our music and a kinder influence on our wallets. All the best, and keep safe and healthy.
During most of your videos that I've seen so far I'm thinking "it needs chimes, add some chimes" but you never do... until now... almost. But I do enjoy watching your creations take shape. I like the ephemeral experience knowing I will never hear it again but that there will be another one along any moment.
He:(as following on the video) Me:Got BBCSO discover and clone the plugin in DAW for four times and downloaded a free plugin called virtual sound stage demo version and arraging 1st in left top corner and others is other directions and having a feeling like I've got the professional version of BBCSO🤪 And wish I'll own one in future😌
Hi Guy, how is the new keyboard doing now that you had it for a bit? Any regrets, excitements, surprises? PS: I love watching how you use different instruments to emphasise different parts. There is sooooo much I still have to learn.
20.45 so your saying it is possible to run it on a 16ram computer? If I also use the technique editor to turn of techniques I don’t use, and maybe bouncing tracks or freezing tracks until I export to mp3 or wav..? Also REALLY fun to watch your videos of just chilling and creating. Bought the core edition yesterday, with the epic choir from spitfire too. Can’t wait to try them
Guy, quick question, would it be easier to add dynamics during recording of each individual instrument, or adding in dynamics for each instrument after a section of the piece is done(multiple instruments) to balance it?
This has to be one of your Top 3 vids for writing orchestral music, wow. I have Core, can’t wait to dig in. ALSO, I always learn a new Cubase tip watching you work-Priceless (“P” puts in/out around selected event, yay. ANNNNND, save often and don’t edit while listening! 😂). QUESTION: how are you liking the new S88 keybed for playing in strings/winds/brass?
You could call it: Musing with Minor Tendancies (ha ha -- stupid). I like this orchestra. Thanks for your fun videos to energize our weekends, Guy; entertaining & educational
Hello Guy, thanks for your brilliant videos. Do you have any previous posts that might help beginners wanting a basic setup to make music in this way, also adding in real instruments please? Or perhaps you know of a good website that offers such advice? Thanks 😊
29:16 Ladies and gentlemen: The world premier of "I Don't Know" Well, there is a precedent. Benny Goodman once recorded an instrumental that he called "Good Enough To Keep" because that's what the recording engineer said after a particular take. They later renamed it "Air Mail Special". ( ua-cam.com/video/ZbJBtKYiX8M/v-deo.html ) It's a shame you crashed the program, but at least we got to listen to you creating this masterpiece in miniature!
Lovely video, as always. Just to clarify, this does not have auto-divisi, I guess? So, when you play chords with the violin longs, how come it does not do the 'organ effect'? Also, how agile is the legato? Can you do runs with it?
In England's summer, scorching rays ablaze, Guy toils in heat, his passion brightly glaze. A maestro, teaching scores through digital quills, With ardour in his heart, he imparts his skills. The room, a furnace, air conditioner's sigh, He sacrifices cool for the audience's eye. Each note he crafts, a symphony untold, In melodies, his fervour takes hold. A cup of tea, a faithful companion true, He sips amidst the heat, a tribute to his view. Determined, he weaves a musical thread, Guiding aspiring hearts, where dreams are fed. Through virtual instruments, he paints the air, A sonic tapestry, beyond compare. Guy, the bard, in his fiery domain, Ignites the souls, with music's sweet refrain.
Hi Guy. Very nice demonstration. I also watched your video of the NI symphony essentials and I’m wondering which is better, the BBC SO core, the NI symphony essentials/pro, or Berlin orchestra?
Very engrossing piece; may be drop the flutes, to me it sounds like they're clashing rhythmically with the trombones. I think it is important to note that the Core edition of the BBCSO doesn't include any solo strings, only some solo brass and woodwinds - as I'm looking for a first symphonic library, it's an important factor. Another important thing: hot tea is the best thing on a hot day.
I have a mental illness and when ever im feeling depressed i always go to your cannel and you always make me forget about everything. Your energy is amazing. Please keep making these videos. You inspire me everyday!

Thank you Sir for taking us along an inspiring journey and giving us a piece of your soul and lovely music. I do hope you can explore and review for us VSL's FREE Big Bang Orchestra. It would be an interesting Trifecta of 3 FREE orchestral libraries after your great episodes on BBCSO Discover and ProjectSAM (which I obtained thanks to you). You sir are a great influence on our music and a kinder influence on our wallets. All the best, and keep safe and healthy.
Great lesson and many, many thanks for the template!
During most of your videos that I've seen so far I'm thinking "it needs chimes, add some chimes" but you never do... until now... almost.
But I do enjoy watching your creations take shape. I like the ephemeral experience knowing I will never hear it again but that there will be another one along any moment.
You wizard! Fun to watch and very inspiring as usual!
Does the Spitfire Player works with Cubase Elements?
Yes
He:(as following on the video)
Me:Got BBCSO discover and clone the plugin in DAW for four times and downloaded a free plugin called virtual sound stage demo version and arraging 1st in left top corner and others is other directions and having a feeling like I've got the professional version of BBCSO🤪
And wish I'll own one in future😌
Hi Guy, how is the new keyboard doing now that you had it for a bit?
Any regrets, excitements, surprises?
PS: I love watching how you use different instruments to emphasise different parts.
There is sooooo much I still have to learn.
It's great. Love it. Still smiling at the flashing lights....I am SO easily pleased
@@ThinkSpaceEducation S O easily pleased . . . I see what you did there ;)
Thanks for the rundown. Great Video!
Everything you can do before & while you record it - will benefit from it! So if you can handle the fader & piano play at the same time. Go for it!
The "in-and-out marker" tip: THANK YOU! 👍
I hope one day I have a room full of instruments and even half the talent you have to go with them!
The way he says pleeeease subscribeeeee, people! Like, how could anyone say no?
You could call it: Musing with Minor Tendancies (ha ha -- stupid). I like this orchestra. Thanks for your fun videos to energize our weekends, Guy; entertaining & educational
Hello Guy, thanks for your brilliant videos. Do you have any previous posts that might help beginners wanting a basic setup to make music in this way, also adding in real instruments please? Or perhaps you know of a good website that offers such advice? Thanks 😊
OK I will do some more beginner tutorials
Guy Michelmore Yes please.
Lovley. Just on question, I thought Solos (as with the trombones) only were available in PRO and not Core? Many Thanks!
29:16 Ladies and gentlemen: The world premier of "I Don't Know"
Well, there is a precedent. Benny Goodman once recorded an instrumental that he called "Good Enough To Keep" because that's what the recording engineer said after a particular take.
They later renamed it "Air Mail Special". ( ua-cam.com/video/ZbJBtKYiX8M/v-deo.html )
It's a shame you crashed the program, but at least we got to listen to you creating this masterpiece in miniature!
The new keyboard now shows which keys are pressed. I love it
No solo instruments in this edition ?
Are you using any processing on the patches?
I used to love going in to the studio, flash up cubase, and see what comes on the speakers.
Why not anymore
Lovely video, as always. Just to clarify, this does not have auto-divisi, I guess? So, when you play chords with the violin longs, how come it does not do the 'organ effect'? Also, how agile is the legato? Can you do runs with it?
In England's summer, scorching rays ablaze,
Guy toils in heat, his passion brightly glaze.
A maestro, teaching scores through digital quills,
With ardour in his heart, he imparts his skills.
The room, a furnace, air conditioner's sigh,
He sacrifices cool for the audience's eye.
Each note he crafts, a symphony untold,
In melodies, his fervour takes hold.
A cup of tea, a faithful companion true,
He sips amidst the heat, a tribute to his view.
Determined, he weaves a musical thread,
Guiding aspiring hearts, where dreams are fed.
Through virtual instruments, he paints the air,
A sonic tapestry, beyond compare.
Guy, the bard, in his fiery domain,
Ignites the souls, with music's sweet refrain.
Hi Guy. Very nice demonstration. I also watched your video of the NI symphony essentials and I’m wondering which is better, the BBC SO core, the NI symphony essentials/pro, or Berlin orchestra?
30:00 "It was at this moment he knew............... ... he fucked up !!"
What is the new controller on the left on your S88? Thank you
Why do you decide to drink scalding hot tea on such a warm day
What's the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow carrying a coconut?
African or European?
3dB
A five ounce bird could not carry a 1 pound coconut.
29:09 What do you call things like this? How about "Steve"?
You see Dave, *this* is why we hired you
Very informative review. I’m intrigued to know what the small switching unit on the left side of the S88 is.
Atem Mini Pro - its a video switcher from Blackmagic which Im going to use for livestreams
@@ThinkSpaceEducation Thank you. Love a good gadget :)
