- A 312 km flight from Mt Bakewell in Western Australia in my amazing Gecko!!! The forecast was for 9kt SSE winds after 1pm (before that it would be unflyable with NE winds). Gav, Guise, and I headed out to make the most of what looked like very promising weather. The forecast was suggesting lift to 12,500 feet and wind at the top of climb to be around 17kts... The full tracklog for Guise and I can be viewed at... ayvri.com/scen...
Great flight! Looked like outstanding conditions during the day and running into that convergence in the evening was a nice bonus. Hope you get many more nice flights on your Gecko!
Excellent! I'm partial to king post designed gliders as that is what I flew for years here in the states. Thanks for the great video!
well done , ps great ad for the Moyes Gecko 😏👍
Thanks for sharing. Very inspiring for those of us who are looking to get started in the sport.
Great flight report and video Thanks
Incredible flight, especially the bonus convergence at the end. Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic effort, well done!
I pick up my Gecko tomorrow, at this stage with 72 hours on a Fun-190 I can’t imagine ever doing that distance on knowledge and skills... I would be happy with one third what you have done... Inspiring! Thanks for sharing, Blue
Enjoy your new glider. You are about to have so much fun….

Excellent flying and beautiful glider.
What an amazing flight!!! Thanks for sharing
You really deserved this Dave. You have been an amazingly good pilot for so long now. Keep going! Great to know you are back into instructing. How many thermals did you need for the flight??
All of them! LOL
Congrats
Thx!
imagine having to have to go drive to him to pick him up!
Congrats on that flight: brilliant. Was following Guises’ track on the day and was definitely bummed for missing out on a good day.. a little less so when I heard about his 4.45am return home in the morning 😄
Thanks Tom... maybe we can all set a 400km task?
Congratulations, that’s quite a distance!
Great flight my friend!COngrats. One question: Is your glider a Gecko Classic or the Gecko Pro option?. Thanks.
Hi, my Gecko is the Pro 170. As you can probably guess, I am very impressed with its performance.
@@drabsinwa180 Thanks for your advise! Just ordered one pro 155.... Yewww!
@@Petoven1 You are going to have so much fun...
So cool congratulations
Thank you…
I'm so happy for you I'm tearing up over here
Great flight and a very impressive distance for your new PB. 13,000 ft , top altitude gain as well.
Do you love the Gecko 170, I,m about to purchase one?
The Gecko is without doubt the best glider I have ever owned…. Very high performance and amazingly easy to land and take off. I’ve never nosed in… not once! You’ll love your new glider!
Amazing days
Wish you could customize your own sounds on that meter gizmo
Cool.
Ola mui interesante todo pero no dan explicación como y donde comprar el ala
Amazing flight...which harness do you use ?
Thank you… I use an RR Mk 3 harness from Dynamic Flight…really comfy and plenty of wriggle room!
Outstanding flight Dave, that was absolutely amazing. You just proved that it's not the glider but rather the pilot that makes an epic flight like this.
Thanks Rolf, but I am sure the glider has a lot to do with it…
❤
Awesome 👍🏼
Hi Dave awesome flight ,amazed that you are still flying hang gliders ,I went to gliders a long time ago now flying a Nimbus 3 t 25.5 mt span makes it too easy
Seems a long time ago we used to fly down at Cot and Mullaloo
Great to hear from you Mike. The good ol days… :)
Fantastic. Once in a lifetime (unless you're Jonny).
I hope not… I’d like to fly further!
What did you use to illisturate your track data? That looks very cool.
Ayvri....
It is from GPS file IGC. If you have any GPS recorder it records in that format then you can upload it or view in any IGC viewer.
damn when you state WA i thought washington state not west australia, a bit far for me
how do you do this without trespassing?
Very nice experience, any one knows his contact please? Im looking for learn hang glider.
👋👋👋
What was your total take off weight?
I weigh around 95kgs, harness, parachute and helmet 11kgs, vario, radio, phone, Spot tracker and cameras 2kgs… glider 33kgs… 33+2+11+95=141kgs
the thing I didn't like about hang gliding was that I needed a second person just to drive my truck
Who is the contact for lessons please mate
Congrats. My record is 190 K in Rio de Janeiro flying a laminar.
Do you know Rohan Holtkamp from Trawalla? Is a good friend of mine. We travelled the world flying in competitions. Along with Manfred Ruhmer, Gerard Tevenot and many other amazing pilots.
I forgot to mention my best friend Guido Gehrmann. Unfortunately perished in a crash on his Red Bull BD-5.
@@luizlovasz8045 yes... I know Rohan - it is a very close knit community in Australia!
Surely there’s such thing as a microphone designed to be used in high wind? Or a software filter that can remove “windy microphone” sound? I refuse to believe there’s no such thing, and that not a singer hang-glider-owner knows about them.
Thats a trek and a half home 🤣🤣
