The big problem with civs above Type II is that really they're just a bunch of Type IIs. Suppose the humans figure out FTL and colonize 100 star systems and build dyson swarms around each of them. Unless there's some way to merge the energy from each of those to one place, that's just 100 separate Type IIs.
I am not a great fan of efforts to depict Type IV (ot Type III, for that matter) civilizations. Why? Because we are, by definition, incapable of comprehending such beings. We can only depict ourselves with some added magical handwaving, mush as ancient Greeks imagined their pantheon. That said, if approached with a bit humility, the idea of existence of such civilizations can result in some brilliant works, like Strugatsky brothers' _Пикник на обочине_ ( _Roadside Picnic_ ) where we explore accidental remnants of alien (probably merely Type II or a bit more) visit, or Sagan's _Contact,_ where we were told that our Universe is a construct of other, shall we say, meta-beings.
The Time Lords. Yes, really. "Your race hasn't even reached Type 1 on the Kardashev scale. It doesn't control the resources of this one planet, let alone a solar system or a galaxy. The Time Lords were the Type 4 civilization. We had no equals. We controlled the fundamental forces of the entire universe. Nothing could communicate with us on our level. Most races pray to lesser beings than the Time Lords." - Time Lord Marnal, Doctor Who: The Gallifrey Chronicles Not that it did them much good.
Xeele were the best for me, exactly because (in the part I read at least, I'm gulty of not reading the whole cycle) we only looked at their civilisation from the outside, only guessed their capabilities. Theye were the more threatening the less we knew about them. I had an impression that a lot of our understanding of their technologies came from mere observation of the effects of their actions. Being in the dark got redefined
it would be hard to apply because nothings really explained well just pulling from Lovecraft...Even Derleth doesnt really go into detail. Most of them would be on the level of the Q.
Hello, recent subscriber here. Really loving the content on this channel! Is there a plan to showcase your book collection? I'm quite curious about what you collect!
It's been decades since I read them but I always got the feeling the xeele were the offspring of the humans thrown back to the early universe. Making humanities war or harsement of the xeele even more pointless than it was.

the only that separate to name this sci-fi civilizations as gods, angels and demons is just, naming convention, anyways you surprise me, I didn't know about this books series, I though the "antagonists" from the 3 body problem were already very incomprehensible for me
Hi all sorry for the reupload. Very annoying but I needed to sort a few issues with it. Thanks OC! (Odyssey Crew… does that work?🤔)
Where would you place the Thoans from Philip Jose Farmer's World Of Tiers on the Kardashev Scale?
You forgot the Time Lords!

"A sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from nature."
Hi Daryl,
What do you think about the last men in "Last and first men" by Olaf Stapledon? Re their level of civilisation.
Love your work.

Not that it did them much good.
Omnipotent, but not omniscient. Timewar blind sided them. They were also..uh..petty...but that might be to kind a word.
Phenomenal video. And The Art is as always incredible.
Great video! For another Type 4 civilization, how about the Originators in Adrian Tchaikovsky's Final Architecture series?

First thing I thought of were the Xeelee. The concept of thr Ring was fantastic
I would like for someone to use the Kardashev scale to measure the various civilizations from Lovecraft's works.

The Q Somehow Seem Like Children Compared To Others On This List.
Would the ancients from the Stargate franchise count as a type civilisation?
The Ancients would be considered a Remedial Class Civilization. They’ve had more failed experiments than good, ie The Wraith.

The more advanced a species the less they will rely on machines.
Nah..the machines will just become more advanced themselves..and may indeed eclipse the creators if they arent very, very careful.

I didn't notice if you do give warnings in other videos, but I did notice that you regularly spoil things.
How do you watch videos like this and expect someone to not talk about any of the content of the story?
