- Danny Elfman singing live in "Danny Elfman's Music from the Films of Tim Burton" at the Nokia Theater, on Halloween 10-31-2014. See the encore here: • 10-31-14 Danny Elfman ...
Danny Elfman and Tim Burton... Two geniuses that should live forever.
Never! Who is that?! Coraline What?!
Yeah
no one lives forever
And Johnny Depp
Joshua Ch. yea
I adore how his suit subtly evokes Jack's costume without actually being a Jack costume.
I know, right!
I'm wondering if he did that on purpose...
I mean, Jack's suit is just a play on pin stripe so makes sense but it does work super well.
It is very rare to find some one who is not only a brilliant composer but also a terrific singer.
And a fantastic musician. Elfman has it all!
He was a singer FIRST, then Tim recruited him to compose. He IS Oingo Boingo :)
Ben Moore - yup! I love ‘Dead Man’s Party’!!
Abslutely mindblowing
Alan menken is like this as well.
I can't get over how happy he looked when he went "I AM the Pumpkin King!"
Obsessor23
Same!!!
Obsessor23 yes!
In an interview he talked about how desperately he wanted to sing the part of Jack. He wanted leave Oingo Boingo at the time, similar to how Jack was tired of Halloween Town.
I'm so overwhelmed by Danny Elfman's talent. Not only are his scores and songs brilliant musically and lyrically, but his performance is so heartfelt - not to mention the beautiful velvety tones of his voice! A musical genius and an inspiration!
Yes, exactly!! To add, I love how his singing becomes even somewhat operatic during some of his pieces!
Zoe M to
And he's classy! No dirt on that man :)
I swear he has pure genuine talent.
Such an amazingly talented man; he composes, writes, produces, acts, and sings! Almost nobody else can say that.
+Alexander Villeneuve Don't forget Steve Bartek of Boingo, and many others who do a lot of the orchestrations for a majority of these films.
Charles Chaplin did that too he even played violin and piano
what about Lin Manuel Miranda from Hamilton. He wrote, did the lyrics and played in the musical.
This movie is truly a masterpiece. A great work of art
This is not a trick. This is a treat. Thank you, Pumpkin King.
This video made me realize how much Danny Elfman really connects with Jack as a character. It’s like seeing all the songs through Danny’s lens as opposed to Jack’s. This really makes me feel like he relates so much to Jack and his story because it is his story and the way he really feels about life. So glad he ended up being the voice of Jack for his songs.
Even some of his gestures are the same
I had to write a paper on him but hes definitely my favorite composer/musician of the 70's and 80's
Also love the movie a
And the suit
who else thinks danny elfman would be a good joker?
He would have made a pretty-good Joker in his earlier days (his Devil in _Forbidden Zone_ pretty much is the Joker)...Nowadays, perhaps an older Joker in the mode of _The Dark Knight Returns_.
i mean... even the thumbnail for private life is candidacy enough lmao
I think it each time I watch his old videos. That cheeky smile of his!
I'd rather William Dafoe, but Elfman would do a awesome work.
I think this every time I see him smile, I love his smile!! :) lol I also think this when seeing Dennis Quaid smile lol
Everyone hail to the Pumpkin King.
i never made the connection that Danny Elfman is the oingo boingo lead singer until last week. seriously a genius.
and writes all the songs.
and cute
always amazed me how can a guy go from singing "Weird Science" and "Little Girls" to making a masterpiece with Tim Burton that will go down as a classic for generations to come
He fucking sang weird science??? Lol my mind literally getting blown man I love that song he literally is the greatest
He also literally did weird science when he was a kid. One of his hobbies was making mutant insects out of radioactive waste.
It's not very common to see a great composer who's a great singer as well and who sings his own creation.
My respect for Elfman was multiplied when I learned that he was the one singing multiple character's songs in NBC...
And on top of that, his voice is still perfect decades later. Amazing stuff.
He has the best low voice I've heard.
Utter genius, the man is pitch perfect.
I could listen to him sing all day
It all started with Oingo Boingo! Long Live Danny!
Awesome! My favorite movie about Halloween. I love how the conductor turned around and had a part!
pretty sure the conductor is Steve Bartek, Danny's friend and collaborator. Bartek was the guitarist for Oingo Boingo and does all the conducting for Danny's music
John Mauceri
The movie is also about Christmas too. :)
Eric Johnson this ain't no train
Bwif hes still called a conductor smart one
I wish I could see this live, I would literally ball. My husband doesn't get it but I explained to him, if Dimebag had never died and you got to see him one last time....thats how this would be for me.
Riley Ekker I understand what you mean. My wife doesn't get it either. I was 13 when this movie came out. I'm an old guy now, but this movie will ALWAYS have a place in my heart. I think I really appreciate it more now as an adult then when I was a kid. Hopefully your husband one day will understand US! Lol. I love Pantera probably as much as your husband does so I understand your reference.
Riley Ekker, Danny Elfman is gonna be performing nightmare in Hollywood this haloween. Check it out!
That's the best comparison in my world too.
@@manano06 really... 39 years old is an "old guy" LOL!! When you hit 80 lets chat... LOL.
The 6 year old little girl in me who went to see this in theaters is jumping and screaming..and I'm 28 years old today. XD
I'm 32 and I still watch this till this day.
When Danny walks out, you can see the back of my head...the blonde with long hair, popping up to give him a standing O. The back of my head shows up a few times more...and Danny high-fived me and my friend Matt as he was leaving the stage. Best. Halloween. Ever.
Forgot to mention...later, after the show, we were in the VIP lounge with the choir, John Mauceri and the musicians, when in walks Danny himself! He was extremely gracious and nice. As I said, Best. Halloween. Ever!
+Highland804 lucky! how'd you get vip?!?
+Highland804 I envy you.
Riley Ekker I managed to be in the very front row two years in a row. Not sure how, just glad I did! (Well, there is that little matter of $$, of course.) Worth it, though.
wow, you must be really important! front row seats, and the back of your head? WOW.....you should sign autographed photos of the back of your head in the front row!
OMG! this must be a broadway show! permanently!
He's an absolute master genius. Let's take a second and give this man mad love and respect and praise while he's still with us rather than after he's gone. We've lost so many greats lately and watching this reminds me of the scope of this man's talent and I'm so grateful he's still here. I love you Danny Elfman. Thank you for all that you have given us. Your contribution to the world is absolutely priceless.
that's right, Danny Elfman is the pumpkin king! :D No one could sing these songs like him.
The This Is Halloween and What's This performances gave me goosebumps
Same!!
The first song gave me massive goosebumps. Nostalgia man.
this man IS the pumpkin king!
Been a fan since 82.
MustardSeedish NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS WASNT AROUND IN 1982 YOU IDIOT!!!
Just kidding I know what you meant. Forbidden Zone FTW!
Congrats, you're a decade older than me.
She meant that she's been a Danny Elfman fan since 1982, smart guy.
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
I like how he sort of is wearing the same suit jack does
I think jack wears HIS suit
he is absolutely the most amazing human to walk the earth
I just cried at work this is so beautiful
Zarahi Moon I’m pretty sure you didn’t lol
I love his subtle mannerisms!!! He’s jack.
It gives me chills that the creator is also the singer. He is living and breathing his work and it is actually majestic whenever it happens in life! Congratulations sir. Thank you
@David Burgess thank you for this
16:35 This note was incredible lol
4:18 through the rest of the song...I got incredible goose bumps, complete chills. One of the most famous lines of the movie and it was just breathtaking.
Danny Elfman is a Genius !!!!!! I'm in my mid 40's and I still love his music after all these years..... TIMELESS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was mesmerized the entire time. Absolutely amazing!
Long life and all my respects for Danny Elfman, genius and eternal ex-Oingo Boingo. I love song "what's this?" at 8:20. Nightmare Before Christmas OST live is really fantastic, I can trip on imagination and my shame is: Brazil never could make something excellent like that.
*I FREAKING LOVE HIM!!!*
I actually had no idea he voiced Jack. I knew he was a composer.
He did the singing voice of jack but he didn't do jack talking
+Destynee22 I thought he did the talking of Jack
+Alexis Jay Elfman was the signing vocie and Chris Sarandon (from the original Fright Night) was the talking voice.
Elfman wrote the songs for Jack because they mirrored his personal life at the time, and he didn't want anyone else singing for it. Burton agreed and let him record the songs, and that was that.
No, wrong. They didn't have time to give Chris Sarandon singing lessons.
I'm crying right now
Was there ever a more musically talented individual than this man? Great musician, first of all. I'm just starting to get into Oingo Boingo and realizing what a fantastic band it is. But he also wrote my favourite musical score of all time (Edward Scissorhands.) And THEN to top it all off, he also sings and he sings wonderfully. So legendary. I hope he sticks around for a long time.
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
Awesome... I almost forgot Danny Elfman was the voice of Jack.
he technically only did the singing voice for Jack
Majora's Fan 101 It still counts...
+Majora's Fan 101 it's technically 80% of the movie. someone at disney really had money to throw by hiring a speaking voice for about 8 lines.
+CarSVernon believe it or not I went through the script and counted the amount of speaking lines Jan has and it counts out to about 76 lines, I'm not trying to start an argument, but I just wanted to go through the script and see weather or not you were correct and unfortunately you were wrong.
+HonorAmongScars I never said it didn't
This guy is the reason why I am still here and why I'm still sane because he created my childhood him and Tim Burton.
Danny only did his singing and I'm glad he did
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
Singing conductor was just WOW!
Been a fan since I was born cuz everyone in my family loves Tim Burton and Danny elfman and I grew up to absolutely love them
When I saw Danny's name in the credits after the movie, I thought:"wait a minute..." Then I realised he composed the avenger's soundtrack. Such a talented man.
Xiang Danny Elfman also composed the Simpsons theme song so he seems to compose amazingly random songs and soundtracks
The avengers composer was Alan Silvestri
oh my god!!!!! i loveee him
he is the best composer to me (alongside John Williams)
Sitting here in a Jack Skellington onesie. :)
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
Oh my god I love this so much
This is so impressive. Had no idea Danny was the singer, dang he's so good!
IM AN IDIOT! I knew Danny Elfman wrote the music, but I HAD NO CLUE he played Jack!! He's amazing!!!
Mary Ridenour just the singing. Prince Humperdink did the talking
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
The legend says that the Nokia theater is undestructible
Danny elfman is a genuis composer along side with tim burton make the best movies. i love this movie nightmare before christmas, because its both halloween and christmas movie
I love it! I’ll always love his voice. 💜
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
I still can't believe that the guy who sings "I love Little Girls" is the singing voice of Jack
This movie was such an amazing throw together of amazing people. it's my all time favorite.
Never thought I'd be lusting over Danny Elfman, but here we are,,,
Nevermind, I just discovered Oingo Boingo and I'm head over heels.
My childhood just cam rushing back. Elfman is the man! And the original voices singing This is Halloween.........nostalgia overload!
He's still got it!! Ahh I love this so much!
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
"Great now we have to do this thing with Danny Elfman"
Watching *_this_* is something I've always wanted to do, but i never actually did. It has always been one of my favorite soundtracks especially This Is Halloween.
I love this man so hard.
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
closest thing were going to get for an oingo boingo reunion
The Tom Hall Group I saw them yesyerday
I have a huge appreciation for this amazing music as an adult. As a former band and choir kid, music is difficult to perform not to mention write. And Danny does both perfectly, even after so many years.
what a fuckin force Dannys voice is. such range
Danny Elfman is a musical God!
this man is f*ckin legendary. god this was perfect
Danny Elfman IS Jack Skellington! Jack's Lament is also describing how Danny felt about being the frontman of Oingo Bojngo at that time. It's why Danny is so emotionally connected to that song. 🎃👻🧡
Brilliant
Yassss spread the vibes about Halloween and Christmas
I have been a fan since the early days of Oingo Boingo .. ( God I miss them) and have followed this man since! He is the master of soundtracks and his talent is limitless!
Watched the film every Christmas eve since i was 5...now 27 and not long until i watch it again..such a special film
Going to go see him on the 30th! Pretty stoked!
Jose Salas Lucky!!!😍
thank you sooo much for sharing this. I was in love with Jack's voice when I first saw the movie)
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
I want an Oingo Boingo tattoo. I just can't decide what yet.
Excelente orquesta, excelente compositor, excelente espectáculo el de anoche en la CD. de México. Fue grandioso poder estar presenciar a Susana Zabaleta con su participación en el papel de Sally y en general todos estuvieron geniales.
Danny elfman just brings his characters to life
I can't believe I get to go see NBC Live in December! So excited, can't wait for this amazing performance!!
Our bests Music Teacher is making us listen to this
I'm inlove with this video. This has been my favorite movie since i was a kid I'm 26 now. Seeing Danny Elfman singing just makes my day. love seeing the voice behind my favorite characters. also had no idea he did music for The Simpsons till recently XD so i guess ive always been a fan? Lol
Woww me encanto mi pelicula favorita 😍
LOVE YOU DANNY ELMAN!!!
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
absolute genius of modern day composer's. probably the best in this generation.
If they aired this live I would pay to watch 🙋🏽🙏🏽
This is so perfect it made me cry 😭
This is so damn perfect oh my god
Just saw this live in Brooklyn 12/6/17
And like that, I’m in love. ♥️
For the longest time, I felt Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas should be called Danny Elfman's The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Danny Elfman is the best American Music Composer!!!
ICON
i usually don't like live performances but nightmare before christmas live and a couple of other things i just love to pieces and i think it's because you can really see the passion
danny is so cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"There are few who deny that what i do i am the best and my talents are renowned far and white"
We all know that this is a very personal song. And I'm not even mad
Far and *white* ?
I guess the white folks really DO think they’re at the top...
@@nuclearcatbaby1131 oh man you're making it impossible for me to edit my comment now because that would make your beautiful joke invalid xD
1:52 I get such immense serotonin from this I- The song “Jacks Lamnent” may be one oy favorites out of the whole movie; but the entire movie is just great.
Fangirling the whole time!! I live this movie and him with all my heart!! This was amazing!!! I even caught myself singing along!😊😆😆💕💕💞💞
I can't imagine paying THAT much money to sit that close and then holding a phone the entire time. I'm grateful for the video but if I paid hundreds of dollars for that seat I wouldn't be doing anything else but focusing on the performance and enjoying it.
I get what your saying because when I go to concerts I think the same but then remember that memories are everything but we forget with time and for the most part a video is always there to look back on when your sad or to remember the amazing time you had. Also most of us that do this are capable of enjoying it fully and videotaping to remember the fun and show others. Trust me I had a bunch of crowd surfers fall on me and kick me in the head and that disrupted it more then me video taping it. Just a different point of view a lot of us do it for memories.
That's what I was thinking. Lol. Like it's really good for us but aren't they missing the live experience themselves in a way by looking through the screen? But then I can also see the other side of wanting to capture it and look back.
@@Kikuye I mean... your phone screen doesnt take up the entirety of your vision. You can hold it up and just not look through it while it records.
This is awesome
