  • This is just a continued shoot from the shoot with the Nikon ZF - I just had to pull out the Leica M11-P with the Voigtlander APO Lanthar 50mm f/2. This lens still amazes me every time I use it! I did a couple shots in the beginning with the Leica Summarit-M 35mm f/2.4

    Just beautiful! I owned the Voigtlander 58mm 1.4 for my D810 & it was amazing. The photos that is, and build quality.

      I would really love to see them do the 58 again in Z mount.

    Thanks for posting. I was at a store this past week. While there a person mentioned folks complaining about focusing with the M-11. Saying that the high number of pixels was causing difficulty with accurate focusing. But man, you nailed the focusing on all the images you shared. I guess the proof is in the pudding or something like that.

      I had maybe 3 out of focus when shooting at f/2 - megapixel count doesn’t effect focus at all. But camera shake is effected by the same. Just shoot at 180th or above (my personal threshold) and you will be fine.

    It is good to see/hear that you still like the APO Lanthar. The APO Lanthar will never replace my Summilux-M 50mm ASPH as my favorite 50mm M lens, but, there are times when one cannot control the direction or quality of light, especially outdoors. The APO Lanthar is quite highly-resistant to flare, compared to the Summilux, to name one notable difference. This is especially useful for the times I am photographing subjects who are incompletely shaded from the harsh Texas sun, by the plentiful Live Oaks, for example. Each lens provides a different aesthetic, a different look; complementing each other well, for my use cases.
    I will also echo your statements about the SF-24D flash. I am glad to have bought mine before the asking prices went crazy-high. (I regret not acquiring at least one SF-26, when they were relatively plentiful.)

      I agree 100%. The sf26 is ok but doesn’t do as well as the 24D

    You should try adapting your Leica lenses on the ZF and see how you like the experience.

    I believe that APO-Lanthar is also available in native Z mount. A great match for the Zf; especially given how the Zf's AF tracking system continues to provide assistance while one is in full manual focus mode; another of its unique features.

      Eye-tracking in MF works wonderfully on the Zf. I used an old Nikkor Macro 60D f2.8 at a recent Exhibition in India, and allmost all shots were on the eye. Very nice experience with the Zf.
      Great shoot this on the Leica too, and Emily a lively model. @@kaskoPhoto

    I am curious, are you using the flash on TTL or manual? In looking at the results you showed, the small flash almost gives a "ring light" effect without the "ring". I have been using a Nikon SB400 with my LED's on TTL and really enjoying the look it gives...

    • @kaskoPhoto

      I use both TTL and Manual with the 24D but prefer manual.

    I’ll be getting a Leica APO-Summicron-M 50 later this year. If it’s anything close in performance to the Leica APO-Summicron-M 35, I’ll be ecstatic. If I’m anywhere near Scranton after I get it, I’d be happy to let you try it out.
    Was the difference in light quality (soft vs. high key) due to the angle you used on the flash unit or was there another flash off camera helping to light the subject? Were one or more of your light boxes used as well?

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  7 місяців тому

      I’ve used the APO and love it. I just don’t love it at 9k so I’m waiting on it. The image were done with the 1 B1X and the large box only. Angels will change that look and light falloff for sure.

    I also like the APO, but find that it's too sharp for my portraits Although to be fair, most of the modern lenses are sooo sharp. Great for your model's perfect skin, but not so great for middle aged people! I find myself going back to more vintage lenses, such as my dad's 1971 50mm Summilux.

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  7 місяців тому

      That is very true. But when I’m shooting for a brand, they have retouchers that do the work and require the sharpe images. “We can’t add real sharpness back, but we can adjust it to where we want it if we have it to work with”.

      @@captaincook6283 I’ve been doing this for 43 years and built my client base of that entire period. It’s not an easy road but well worth the effort if it’s something you love. And there will be many that don’t want photos but the few that do will recommend you to friends if you do a great job. It snowballs.
