I’ve been raised on boats, a diver for 34 years and more hours on the ocean than I can count and I’ve got nothing but respect for this man’s ability and guts. ✌️🇺🇸✌️. The ocean is a beautiful place but also very dangerous if you aren’t alert.
An absolutely spellbinding place. When you came upon the beach toward the end of the video I was at a loss. I've had dreams of owning and living aboard a small boat, and sailing to French Polynesia for a veritable eternity. I have to make it happen. Can't deny myself such an experience any longer. Thanks for letting me live vicariously for a bit. It was wonderful.
What a great place to drop the hook! Good point about not having to be a billionaire to share the same view. The marine life there is awesome, and all you need is a mask n snorkel. Trigger fish, parrot fish, Black Tip Reef Sharks, to name a few. You're living the dream brother without needing hundreds of thousands too. My sailing career consists of cruising around the UK and through Europe to the Greek Islands over the years. So your blue water passages and ocean crossings over there in the Pacific I find really interesting. Enjoy sir

Great channel. Just started watching. I have a 27 ft CAL and getting my sailing experience in the Puget Sound. First open ocean passage was last Nov with a small crew on a 35 Island Packet, sailing down the coast of Baja! Looking forward to longer ocean voyages in the future!

I’m soloing from Durban into to Mozambique Channel, on my 34’, up to Madagascar for some great diving/spearing …. then cross (via Mayotte) to Zanzibar and make my way back down to South Africa. For now keep it up and I enjoy watching vicariously… check out the Sailing Brothers… two Welsh lads on a minimal budget and a basic old but solid yacht.

Zero issues, I think people expect the creature comforts of a condo when they are on a sailboat. Some places are warm and sweaty and some aren’t. I have seen no issues with the hull color

Just wondering - why did you anchor in 45' of water at Kia Ora, instead of a shallower depth. Is the whole lagoon that deep, right to the edges, or is it just the allowed anchoring areas that are that deep?
James, I’m wondering if you wear sunglasses or just not when on camera. If you don’t wear them I’m curious if it is just preference or if you have a specific reason you don’t like to wear them.
I almost never wear sunglasses, which I know is bad for my eyes, but I just can’t see as well with them on and the polarization doesn’t not help as much as people claim it does with spotting coral.
@@SailorJames right on. Was just curious about that. I’ve got one of those biohacker health nut buddies who refuses to wear sunglasses because your eyes are where the vitamin D gets in.. or whatever. I sure know it helps me with fly fishing to see fish better in the glare, but I’ve not sailed through the reefs… yet! so I wouldn’t know about that one. Keep up the inspiring vids. On another note, I used to work on the Tarawa Atoll in the Marshalls, Kiribati. There is some amazing WW2 history to see there. American tank still on the beach, Japan bunkers, incredible stuff… but the island (Betio) is pretty rough. Very poor, very overpopulated, and only about a square mile in land mass! If you happen through there it would be so cool to see a video though. I plan to go back, sailing hopefully, and meet up with some of my old friends there.

Always look for sand when anchoring-watch out for corral heads & on Bora Bora no more anchoring just mooring balls but inspect them! Fair winds🤙🏽
Actually boats under 33ft/10m can anchor in any mooring field in Bora Bora for free, I spent more than a week there

Megayacht owners and crews are generally pretty nice people and are usually good for a few gallons of fresh water and ice if you have problems ashore
yeah there was this wild 100ft sailing yacht that came in a week later and they dinghied over and waved. seemed nice.
My wife sailed around the southern ocean from San Diego in 2008, two of them aboard a lightweight Wiley sloop. They had an amazing adventure.

Yeah it’s been a wild ride, thanks for following along, ironically some of the hardest anchoring conditions I have ever faced were in SoCal.
Running out of air would be scary at 30-40'. On the way up, you have to hold your breath, while exhaling.

Just wondering - why did you anchor in 45' of water at Kia Ora, instead of a shallower depth. Is the whole lagoon that deep, right to the edges, or is it just the allowed anchoring areas that are that deep?
Most of the anchorages in the Tuamotus are 40-60ft deep, the shallower spots are full of coral in most places.
You should pack like a folding bike or scooter onto your boat so you can get around the islands quicker
James, I’m wondering if you wear sunglasses or just not when on camera. If you don’t wear them I’m curious if it is just preference or if you have a specific reason you don’t like to wear them.
I almost never wear sunglasses, which I know is bad for my eyes, but I just can’t see as well with them on and the polarization doesn’t not help as much as people claim it does with spotting coral.
@@SailorJames right on. Was just curious about that. I’ve got one of those biohacker health nut buddies who refuses to wear sunglasses because your eyes are where the vitamin D gets in.. or whatever. I sure know it helps me with fly fishing to see fish better in the glare, but I’ve not sailed through the reefs… yet! so I wouldn’t know about that one. Keep up the inspiring vids.
On another note, I used to work on the Tarawa Atoll in the Marshalls, Kiribati. There is some amazing WW2 history to see there. American tank still on the beach, Japan bunkers, incredible stuff… but the island (Betio) is pretty rough. Very poor, very overpopulated, and only about a square mile in land mass! If you happen through there it would be so cool to see a video though. I plan to go back, sailing hopefully, and meet up with some of my old friends there.

Rangiroa is pretty nice for scuba diving, did you manta...? those reef sharks are not dangerous 99% of the time.

I like blue water boats so my picks in no specific order would be : Alberg 30, Cape Dory 30, Baba 30, Pearson Vangard 32, Alberg 35
