i had came up with this exact samba about 2 years ago and i love it, its comes natural to play this with a Brazilian samba swing. their native samba doesnt feel like its perfectly straight 16ths so i try to emulate them. fun to improvise over this framework with other flam rudiments as well. great video, much love from turkey.

try listening Kiko Freitas. Is difficult but a entire new world to discover. and you are right, SAmba is in the between. Not straight.
i've been listening to edu ribeiro's stuff and the album batucada fantastica extensively to get the feel down, i'll check kiko freitas out as well thanks for the recommendation.
Hey mate. Thanks for sharing your UA-cam lessons. I’ve really been getting a lot out of them. I have a question which is unrelated to this video. I wasn’t sure how to message you. I’ve noticed I’m not great at picking up phrasing and arrangements quickly. Seems there’s a million videos on fills and everything but. I’m wondering if you have any lessons that may help. I’m concentrating on jazz. I’ve been Playing along to songs I need to learn and realising I really suck at remembering accents and brass phrases. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
These are some of the best lesson videos out there, not just how good the licks are but how thoroughly you explain the concepts behind them.
Congrats on 10k Darryn, well deserved!
Congrats on the 10K!
@@BHBdrummer thanks mate. I hope you’re well.
Glad you’re back man! Always a great source of inspiration.
I can't believe you never stuffed that up once. Amazing! That's a very tricky word to say.

You can sing ta-karaka to get the Brazilian feel down. A Maria Martinez practical tip.
Good to see you back! Thanks for posting.
Phew! Thought we'd lost you there for a minute!

Funny that's how we call it here in Basel, Pataflafla...
I think that the Brazilian drummers usually throw a Drag in there somewhere too.
