Extremely lucky to have caught Cab Car 7752 in a few of these clips (not to mention filmed it's horn) before it went up to serve the commuter line way beyond the stars in February 1996.
I live 3 avenues over from the Metro North line, which runs from Penn sta., thru East Harlem, Harlem and beyond. At nite sometimes I hear the mournful cries of the whistle blowing. It's kinda sad during the winter months, especially when it snows. At times o drift off to sleep listening to it.
As a resident of the Brunswick Line, it pains me that I missed out on seeing these awesome cab units in service. Though now I can still see Geeps now and again, as well as newer cab units! No I'm not talking about the MPI's, I mean the SC-44's. Their monocoque body design is structurally different than the truss design used on the E and F units I realize, but it's still based on the principle of the body supporting the weight of the prime mover rather than having it rest on a frame like with road switchers and cowl units. Hence why I call newer locomotives like the Genesis series and the Chargers as Newer Cab units
its interesting to think that the same coaches i ride today to school are the same ones in this vid. its like looking at photos of your parents in middle school
I photographed an anonymous E unit in undercoat by the old B&O roundhouse at New Brunswick in October 1991, I read somewhere it may have been an ex-NJT loco bought for further use with MARC, would love to know it's identity and subsequent history...
E unit 68 survives today, and was retired as MARC 92. She was eventually unpatched and restored as BN 9908. She is currently being backdated to CB&Q 9976.
This here is classic MARC. Too bad many of these are gone, but a few survive. Probably the best-preserved unit is APCU 7100, which is currently used on a few excursions of the B&O Museum.

Those E and F units bring back some memories.

I appreciate that people like you had the foresight to take videos like this.
23:29 right before the Silver Springs collision
So that's what it's horn sounded like...
(By the way, 7752 actually appeared at least 4 times throughout this video.)

I never knew MAryland Rail Commuter had E units
Great video!
2:34 OH COME ON BN AND 5:33
I do have to ask I know most of the units were scrapped but how many actually made it into preservation
5 of them. 2 in Ohio, 1 on the Texas State Railroad, and 1 in Kirkwood, MO. (CB&Q 9939A).
LTEX still has 3 on the property
Rare lash/ups. Kool
