My ongoing theory with mental health is that its all just about prioritizing the relationships in your life that are good, and dusty does that. He cares about his wife, cares about his kids, cares about his family, cares about his career and can think about how much he wants to prioritize each in a good way.
He grows on you like a tumor, you dont like it at first, but then you find out it's malignant and maybe you name it. Maybe the tumor even makes you laugh, so you decide it's alright to let it grow, borderline cultivate, the tumor.
I also thought that was a great quote, and immediately wondered what my life would be like without mirrors and pictures. And then I realized that would be impossible in a society of cellphones and cars. Like just to drive you need to see yourself
I love Dusty's comedy! I laughed throughout his entire special. He is such a beautiful soul. Thankful for his existence and so grateful he found his way to comedy.
I appreciate whoever does the editing on Neal's podcast so much. Love the little cuts for visual references. It's a little thing, but it's a big thing. There's so many times I stop other podcasts just to go look up what's being talked about and Neal's podcast almost always has that thoughtful detail buttoned up so listeners can enjoy the podcast in it's natural flow. It takes away that little bit of friction and hassle and makes me look forward to watching every upload.
Love Dusty! I have seen him in-person several times and he's not only funny but humble. He deserves the success as he's worked so very hard, traveling to so many small clubs all over the U.S. ❤
I love Dusty! I was so happy to see him on the podcast. His lack of angst is relatable. I think we're the same age, and I grew up in similar circumstances, so I can relate to a lot of what he is saying. Many people just reach an age or a point in their lives where they desire simplicity. I'm so happy that the world is getting to see how funny and cool Dusty is. We're havin' a good time!
Really nice guy, great pod guest. So funny!! I stumbled onto Dusty by accident a couple years ago… maybe a podcast guest? A few funny bits on UA-cam, but rarely saw him in my feed. Until 2023. I’m so happy he got a Netflix special!! Well deserved. I agree; weed is very potent now. I’m a total lightweight now tho. So I’ve avoided the edibles and candy, stuck with the two hit wonders. Love the pre-rolled! I only need one or two hits and I’m ready to float off to sleep. Def not out partying on it. ✌🏼
This is an amazing ep! Storytelling from similar, but very different comedians that are vibing and sharing an incredible conversation. This episode was incredible and it felt like y’all were comfortable and connecting with each other. Love this!
I grew up in SW Pennsylvania (near the Appalachians) and guns are so embedded into the culture, one thinks nothing of it. I was a wee tot when my dad was pulling rifles out of the gun cabinet. Most of the high school was absent on the first day of deer hunting season. My stepdad has a "reloading room" that he built so he could clean and reload his own shotgun shells. It's literally all he does in his old age--watch TV with his wireless headphones and walk from his reloading room to the family room to look at the TV screen from time-to-time while he noodles with and cleans his guns and shells. I have chosen to live in cities from the moment I graduated and I have to remind people, "Yeah, folks live like that. I am that, dude. That is me. That's how I grew up."
Same ( rural Indiana). Also, carrying a pistol either on a belt or in your overalls is necessary if you’re out in the woods, etc. You just never know what you’re going to run into out there, whether animal or human. My dad still, in his 70’s, carries his 45 pistol around his waist when he’s out and about- especially working outside. We, as kids, never thought to play around with any of his guns….. because we were taught at a very early age to respect gun safety and that our dad would kick our ass if he found out.
Yeah and the other side grew up only knowing guns from what they see on the news, movies and television where they are used for the most horrific things. Most Europeans would be terrified to enter a house that has a gun in it. Literally.
There is a great singer from the 60-70’s Dusty Springfield who has a classic album Dusty in Memphis that you would love Dusty. Windmills of My Mind is on it. Her song Son of a Preacher Man from that album resurrected her career on the soundtrack of the movie Pulp Fiction in 1994. Your Netflix special was so funny and we love your podcast and Nateland podcast. So happy for your success ❤
Every comedian bombs. Sometimes they handle it like geniuses, and sometimes they crash and burn right then and there. I remember seeing clips of Seinfeld bombing on stage when he was younger and he’d just literally stand there and laugh at himself and admit he was being an idiot, and, like a kid climbing back on the bike, he’d fight his way back to remembering the next joke. Just, on with the show. Psychologically, it’s fascinating. Most of us cower away from even finishing a face to face conversation when we’re not being well liked. I have so much love and respect for great comedians. Dusty Slay, Tim Hawkins, Jerry Seinfeld, Brian Regan, Zoltan Kanzas, Jim Gaffigan, and Leanne Morgan are some of the best. When they just keep on keepin’ on , through a rough audience, who frankly doesn’t deserve them, they’re showing so much class.
I feel like he kinda exemplifies the shift between the old mentality of being in survival brain, to the newer one of being real with where you’re at and what you got going for you. Great convo ty to both
Being the go-between for divorced parents is something no kid should be subjected to. I, like Dusty, had that experience as well. Really felt that and took me back when he was talking about that.
Always good to listen to all these comedians. Another hilarious episode😅. Good to see this new dude Dusty! We need BILL BURR on the block! Good job guys👍😬👍
Longtime Dusty fan. He's very funny and leaves you feeling good. We're having a good time! has become a slogan in our family. Also the wave (Dusty's hand wave). Use the wave every day.
I did the same with The Wall and grew up near Dusty. It was fabulous! And it's not a folktale. There was a laser light show at our Civic Center that screened OZ w/ Darkside. Was an incredible experience!
👍 Big fan. In a good way... Dusty on stage makes me picture a scenario where the "act" didn't show, and they got a funny crew member to go up and try to stall for time... "Hey Dusty - Get up there!" Ends up winning over the crowd. ;)
I couldn't relate more to Neal's comment on what it was like in the 90's before the internet was everywhere. Like there was nothing to do, or we did much different things and valued things a lot differently.
Reasons I wear overalls: 1. All the pockets. Never lose anything, it might take a minute to find but it’s always in there somewhere. When I’m traveling out of country I feel safe knowing my passport is in the pocket against my chest. 2. Wherever you go, people assume you’re working and you’re supposed to be there. Can sneak into almost any ticketed event with a smile and a howdy. 3. If you wear shorts underneath and it’s too hot, you’re a quick drop from instant relief. 4. Someone almost always says “hey nice overalls!”
a similar thing happened with me and a snapping turtle but I had a laundry basket with me so I was successful at getting it off the road but it was a bit intense when it was snapping at me. it was trying to get up a curb and could not climb up it due to it's shell. definitely approach one from the back if that's not obvious. the good thing is they cannot do backflips. also, I recommend grabbing them at the waste if you need to pick one up. stay higher on the shell. they can't reach your hands with their mouth but be careful of the claws. i think it scratched me up a bit. it was a pretty big one.
described my late high school years perfectly, but he's 8 years younger (i knew he didn't look this old). maybe opellika is just running on its own schedule, but we always thought we were the last to find about things
I've been so excited about this one: Dusty is great, we even used his weather joke as a cold open for our work newsletter last week! He's stellar! *** Neal--- Red Flannel??? What would your girlfriend think? 😰
This is my introduction to Dusty Slay. Laughing along enjoying and relating hard and then the conversation takes a hard turn at 33:40. I was a big time Jesus loving Christian until I was 16… when I actually took the time to read the Bible I couldn’t get past Genesis. I can’t get beyond the idea that the “forbidden fruit” was _knowledge._ I LOVE learning- so any organization that tells you up front they literally want to keep you ignorant is….not for me. I’m not even saying I don’t believe in god (I don’t) I’m just saying that’s one sick freak I’m not interested in serving.
Love the style of the pod! Thanks for asking the guests about God!! Main theme of the Bible: God’s goodness and mercy despite circumstances. I searched for fulfillment in everything, just to find myself still hollow. God opened my eyes to see His goodness. God designed us to be in relationship with Him, we can have that through Jesus. Jesus says to “abide in my love” John 15:9
I hate to see Neal Brennan be this condescending, because I enjoy his comedy and introspection. Dusty Slay is a fantastic entertainer and deserves all the success that comes his way.
Neal thinks you don’t remember anything before three years old, but I remember things before that, and other people I’ve talked to also. I remember being in a diaper sitting on the floor, looking up at a bookshelf and out the front screen door, and I remember being in a high chair at a restaurant, with people smoking and talking, both of which were before age three.
These guys are havin' a good time.
✋alright.
This guy seems like the most well adjusted guest in the series...good for him.
My ongoing theory with mental health is that its all just about prioritizing the relationships in your life that are good, and dusty does that. Dusty's one of those comedians that I didn't want to like at first but he's slowly grown on me and now I think he's underrated
He grows on you like a tumor, you dont like it at first, but then you find out it's malignant and maybe you name it. Maybe the tumor even makes you laugh, so you decide it's alright to let it grow, borderline cultivate, the tumor.
If your trying to be funny keep the day job. @@JacksonMack3742
The exact same for me. He’s an acquired taste. Which I’m sure he would half acknowledge himself
Great take
I feel like yog dozing off.
Dusty Slay! I really, really like this guy. Funny, likeable, relatable, unpretentious, and (once again) funny!
Exactly how I feel. Probably my favorite active comedian right now.
“If it weren’t for mirrors and pictures I would know I was changing, I feel the same inside” - well said
I also thought that was a great quote, and immediately wondered what my life would be like without mirrors and pictures. And then I realized that would be impossible in a society of cellphones and cars. Like just to drive you need to see yourself
Dusty is really polite even when people are condescending. So happy for his well-deserved success.
I watch every episode... but I seeing Dusty is the guest, I am EXTRA watching this one.
"It just doesn't work on me" is the best way to explain why you dont like a type of music
Miles Davis's trumpet lol
Dustin Slay - what a guy! One of the strongest, most natural interviews!
Thanks, Dusty and Neal! This was fun. Dusty has a heart of gold. Great special by the way Dust.
Dusty's great -- he's hilarious and i love his perspective, voice, and cadence. can't wait to watch more of his work 🙌🏻
I love Dusty's comedy! I laughed throughout his entire special. He is such a beautiful soul. Thankful for his existence and so grateful he found his way to comedy.
Had to watch this immediately. Love the Blocks Podcast AND love Dusty's comedy!
“That’s Walmart feet immediately” 🤣
Grocery store feet is an old joke. I don't remember who did it originally though
@@randall7853 people walking barefoot in the grocery store have always said this. Its people like me, we originally did it
I’m a big Dusty fan!!
"Does that make you more hungry or less hungry?" Was brilliant.

Dusty Baker, Major League Baseball Player and Manager, winning the World Series as a player and as a Manager is pretty Classy
Love the honeycomb pattern behind Dusty. Looks great!
Heeeeyyyy Now we're having a good time!
It's great to see Dusty here. He's one of the best stand ups I've ever seen live. I can't imagine him not going far in this world.

Great guest, i just found out about Dusty a few weeks ago. Love his personality and stage presence.
the "probably an away game" was brilliant
I watched Dusty’s Netflix special and was hooked. I had never heard of him before. I was excited to see him on the podcast.
Dusty! So great to see you here, outside of your’s and Nate’s podcasts! Yee Yee and Hello Folks!
Dusty brought me here. Never heard of Neal Brennan but I like the show.
He co-created and co-wrote Chappelle Show and is a tremendous comedian.
Same, love Dusty! Never heard of this other guy. Not a fan.
@@chadmoon518Neal is a great comedy writer but I respect your opinion enough that I get it
This Neal Brennan is sooooo out of touch with the real world. Full disclosure, I’m not in touch with coastal elites
It looks like the C.N.N. of Comedy Podcasts. Not a fan and proud of Dusty sleigh for being a trooper.
I loved this video. Also hearing Dusty doesn't drink and for him to explain why was pretty inspiring, too.
I loved this conversation. It felt different, more real. Also, Dusty’s special was great!
One of the best yet! So much sincerity here. We’re having a good time 👋
Neal. In the 80s & 90s there was PLENTY to do...movies, sports, hanging out, drinking & dancing!!!! and working!!!
So flipping excited to see Dusty Slay on here! Dream come true.
