A Barber that I knew used to do really tight edge ups he told me when you edge up you always start on the side that has the least hair. An edge up that side first. Then edge up the other side that has the most hair because you can always subtract but you can't add ! 🙂
It's good to see you helping your clients achieve a clean, natural look. Other UA-cam barbers are out there turning their victims into Lego men and Fisher-Price adventure people.
lolol..I had a barber who could fade like nobody's business. clipper over comb even.. fades were blurry. but his lineups always were jacked up.. needless to say I had to fire him and I hired myself. been cutting my hair ever since
Thank you so much! As a Cosmetologist, I didn't get much training on barbering. Edge up and lining was always hard for me. I am finally understanding more by watching this tutorial. Again, thank you so much!
Man, thank you for showing the coarser hair textures. It shouldn't be as hard as it is to find barber tutorials for nappy hair on UA-cam. you just got yourself a sub! Keep it up
EXACTLY!!!!! I get SO TIRED of these fucking barbers only wanting to show shape ups on guys with wavy hair or dark Caesars...... any blade you put on those textures of hair and I mean ANY blade is gonna look like a million bucks..... they never wanna show an ally headed guy getting a icey lineup so I agree this guy definitely earned my sub 💯💯💯👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you so much for this video. This is the most scientific approach to a line-up I’ve ever seen and I know some excellent barbers. Game changer in my eyes.
Wait, so you don’t push them back 3/4” and use an entire bottle of fibers? I thought that was the industry standard now 😂😂😂 For real though, great tutorial... nice to see someone teaching some common sense.
Thank you, I don't like starting in the middle. I was told you must start in the middle, I disagree, and after seeing this, it's good to know other people feel the same. Thanks for the camera trick too.
I’m halfway through barber college and this video has so many gold nuggets in it I will continue to watch your videos before they actually are give me weapons I need in real life thank you for making these I subscribed nothing but love
I'm on a very tight budget, so for some time now, I have been cutting my son's hair. I've become quite good at shaping up his fro, but im trying to become better at fading and edging. Thank you so much for this tutorial. Thank you even more for getting to the point, and keeping it clear and simple. Blessings to you and much success! 👍🏾
I have used hairspray to hold my hair in place and then I used the t-outliner to shape it up. It comes out clean. The only time I have had a hard time is when I put my part line for when I do a comb over on myself. It's harder to do that part line. Good video man. Thanks
Eh yo, you just gave a great idea. Been edging up for years and never once thought to use hair spray. I got curly nappy mix and it's always a trick to even do my own. Lol. Good post man.
I like the way that he doesn't go back too far! Most barbers give everyone the same lining no matter how they hairs setup! Usually taking it way too far back!
MMA BARBER LIFE it would also be helpful for a lot of newer barbers to see the angles with the straight razor for cleanup too. I know it’s tricky in some areas and i really struggled with that for the longest time man.
Hey thanks for this video. It truly helped me out. My edge up has been pushed back and I'm cautious to push others back but your steps helped me see a better way and still keep it sharp. Thanks again.
This was incredibly helpful!!! With quarantine, I have been using clippers on my husbands hair but I really wanna do a nice edge up on him. I was clueless until this video. I cannot wait to try these tricks! Thank you so much!
I've been having a pretty difficult time with edge-up's and like you, most of the barbers told me to start in the middle but that don't seem to be working for me. I like your tutorial and I think you did an excellent job. One reason in particular, because you showed us step by step and it "WASN'T" fast fowarded. I think I'll try it this way (making the bars first) then connecting the dots. Thank you so much.
Thanks a lot. I do cut my hair by myself especially when i'm in Japan. Cutting the edge of my hair and doing Line up has been my greatest challenge every time. I should definitely get it right with the help of this video. Thanks Buddy
I definitely found this helpful. I've doing the "start in the middle thing" and for the most part is been okay but this right here make so much seance.Thank you for this video (really all), we really appreciate it man.
Very helpful I always found it harder to start in the middle also. This way makes a whole lot more sense and makes it easier for the slanted side appear. This helped me so much.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and expertise. I learned so much you are a good teacher and easy to follow due to your down to earth lingo and manner. You are Super Great at all you do and it makes a lot of sense what you say and do to attain that great look. People like you are a Blessing! Thanks
Nice video.. talked well through the hair types. Finding the high and low natural line is the key.. no pro here but I been trying to adhere to that for years trying to keep myself clean.. enough that when I stated going back to shops to be able to make an educated decision about where and how you line should look and feel.. growing up on the east coast and having the same barber for years and years teaches ton a lot as well.. cats couldn’t fade when I got out here almost 20 years ago.. they’ve come a long way.. respect!!
Damn you made it look so easy Definitely I will try that out I am a new barber in the field and I am struggling especially with toddlers some of them have a lot of baby hair And I have a hard time 👍👍
I have thin baby hair at the front and sides and stopped going to the barbers coz they was pushing my hair line back. Currently learning how to shape up my own hair line but it ain't easy but this video was helpful 👍🏾
well, yes and no. when your hair grows you have a little bit of a bang which grows over where your natural lineup starts growing. the trick is to just cut enough of the "bang" to make it nice and tight without going past where the follicles naturally start growing.. but if your natural hairline is not straight then YES you do have to go past that point to make a straight line
@@SuperSecretAgentNein depends what you call "straight" . Im not talking about exact square straight; some hairlines follow a natural curvature. As long as it is cut uniform it doesn't have to be lined up straight as a box/square ..some clients don't even want it lined up like that. Others do. Depends on situation/the clients desire. So if they desire the exact square look and their natural hairline doesn't follow it then yeah I guess you could say that's a "pushback" or "professional pushback" as some would call it.
I've also seen some barbers spray the edge up area with hairspray to make the hair stay in place and it makes the hair kinda crispy and easy to line up.
Very nice my brother. The line up is the deal sealer of the hair cut. I'm still trying to perfect my craft. I've been starting from the middle, but I want to try this method now. Makes a lot of sense and you make it look effortlessly.
Thank you so much. I am a wife who just wants to cut her husband's hair so he can spend more time at home than the barber shop. I feel ready. Thank you👍😍😃

Very helpful I always started my hair edge up from the middle after watching this its better how you do it it make it easier to match everything up if u have hairline that sticks out your way tells me how far to push back if I have too thanks
I've always started my lines in the middle of the head... in which allow me to establish the center point of the line which deter you from taking too much hair off the line or pushing the line back more than normal. Great video!!!

I'm a "retired" barber (just took a different career path) and now mainly just cut my kids hair. The edge up is essential and imho makes or breaks the haircut. It is like washing just the body of the car, but leaving the tires dirty/muddy. On the 1st client, I would have taken the edge back a little less than 1mm on the client's left side to the darkest point to ensure the edge looked crispy the next day. But that's my opinion and preference, as I have the burden/blessing to see my clients everyday until the next cut.
Bruhhh, hands down this video and the beard C-Shape tutorial is the best Ive ever seen on UA-cam! Im gonna shout you out in my next video! God Dammn, Im looking like the dark-skin Lenny Kravitz w/ the mini afro.

very nice.. i always wonder if i was doing it wrong when i had to create someone line up do to there not being one. like on the first client you had.. very helpful tutorial
What up, Squad! I hope you all found this helpful.
Yes very helpful and I loved how you explained the different hair textures
Definitely!!! Now I've the knowledge n more confidence to edge up myself!!
So helpful bro! I really appreciate you time to explaining and couch. Thanks.
Q: How about a continuation on edging the back and around the ears?
Dope shape up and tutorial thanks for this my brother

You’re the first I’ve seen to do a realistic edge up on a client who doesn’t have the perfect hairline. I appreciate the knowledge!
This man doing god’s work. Bless you my brother.

This is the best shapeup video, I've come across. U left the light parts intact and tapped away the strong parts to even it out...perfectly done. 👍

Excellent video. No enhancements were needed, no holding spray was needed. Very descriptive and to the point.
Question: what makes or dictates u edging that vertical bar STRAIGHT up n down opposed to knowing when to do it with a slight slant.
Im pretty nice with line ups and this was still helpful! Always learning...always growing
Exactly... always willing to learn new shit.. 💈
Me to, good luck barber friend😀

Real barbers I dont think would actually have to use it. It sets the client up for failure when they have to wash their hair .

This was the best edge up video I’ve ever watched👍👍👍. So glad you showed how to edge up on different hair types and shapes.
Thank you very much, the best video and method that works for me. I am a single mother who do my son hair from time to time. 💯💥
Super helpful. Some do not prep the edge before cutting
Good work. The first one was a great transformation. The second one didn't need much work. The last one looked easy.

thank you OG sir I struggle with people that have no shape to the lineup I will watch this about 10 times so it can imprint in my head how to
Very helpful bro. I think I’m going to try this method since I don’t have luck with starting in the middle. Appreciate you!
Man. You are the plug
Good job G!..Really professional vision.I appreaciate that much more as a barber/artist myself
Very good tutorial without any oushbacks....You did that...GOOD JOB
I meant pushback not what my phone typed up
I have thin baby hair at the front and sides and stopped going to the barbers coz they was pushing my hair line back. Currently learning how to shape up my own hair line but it ain't easy but this video was helpful 👍🏾
Well damn! Not the edge up being "in this dire of straights" 😂😂
Every edge up or line up is a push back! You just push it just enough like in this video so that it looks natural.
well, yes and no. when your hair grows you have a little bit of a bang which grows over where your natural lineup starts growing. the trick is to just cut enough of the "bang" to make it nice and tight without going past where the follicles naturally start growing.. but if your natural hairline is not straight then YES you do have to go past that point to make a straight line
