I think this was the inspiration I needed. I'm 4yrs in as of Feb. The same year I started my journey my mom died, and i became homeless, had a miscarriage, and now have a 1yr old in 2weeks. I never colored my hair since starting my loc journey and i considered it. Actually bought the stuff 😂. But i think im about to start combing my hair out TODAY. My hair has never been this long and I've considered the idea so long now. I used to cut my hair so much cause yes the bad ass feeling was amazing lol. But I think its time for these to go!! Im ready!! 🥰your hair is gorgeous!!
Just combed out my locs and I defintiely feel more free and understand the process of using it to get past a rough part of your life, I hope you and everyone else that may be feeling the same is feeling far better now
I feel this. Even though I still feel like I’m in this rough patch, I don’t feel connected to my locs as to when I started and kinda ready for them to go. Like wanting to start a new chapter (again) in life.
I appreciate you noticing and saying that. Creating content is what I’m passionate about, so I’m always looking to put my best effort into my videos 🫶🏾
7 years locked in and I feel you about the stuck energy in our hair. I def started my locs in a not so happy time in my life. I CHOPPED all of my hair out prior. Now I few like I’m in a different stage/phase in my life (especially after having my baby)that requires ..Freedom from all of this built energy. Thanks for the extra inspiration ❤
@TheTianaAlexandra hi. I'm African & meddle eastern, my parents knew no better & used hardcore perm when I was a kid and burned my scalp at that. Then I myself with no guidance I did a lot to my hair. I went natural for a few years with only Braids. But I want my hair longer like shoulder length or a little longer, with having locks and unlock it it's possible from what I seen right? And who should I go and have them do the up keeping
I’m absolutely the same way about my hair. I do not like hairstyles that restrict me from expressing myself my hair is the first thing I change when I’m feeling down or need a quick change in my life . When I look back at old photos of my hair, they always tell a story I’m able to like look at these pictures and identify what space mentally It’s the way I kind of sort of measure my grown. 😩😩 I am so proud of you and I can’t wait to go on this new hair journey with you ❤️❤️❤️🤗
Your hair looks absolutely beautiful in both stages of your life. I can see the light in your eyes smile and voice. Condolences on your loss and thx for your authenticity ❤ that and congratulations 🎉 👏🏾 on your new born ….
Thank you for sharing, I can relate a whole lot I can't style my hair as it is now, in loc form I miss being able to style my hair, and I'm tired of the headaches 😩 it's been two years almost 3 now, and I think it's time for me too to let it go, hope you're doing well Hun 🫶🏾
so thankful to have come across your videos/content! praise The Most High you’ve come far in your journey! my condolences for the experiences you had in losing loved ones, but we praise our Creator Abba YAH once again for giving you motive to keep going for you and your babygirl! this just assured me so much to continue combing mine out and releasing old, unhealthy energy and spirits that were attached to my loc journey. time to start anew! 🤍
Your hair is gorgeous! You're absolutely right, you have to do what's best for you. We are given the opportunity to loc our hair, be a loose natural or perm it. Do what fits your lifestyle. Ill still be following you!
This video helped me a lot. I’ve been debating for a while about combing them out, but I’ve had some pretty bad relationships during my time having locs. And I think they’ve sort of just become associated with all these people that haven’t been good for me in my life. Something they always would compliment me on and looking back I hate how attached my hair has become as a part of what makes me considered good looking.
This video is so real and I love that. I'm going to comb out my locs that I've had for almost 18 months now. I have 4c, so they're fully locked and have dropped as well. I also have the same lint build-up issue in the last back row of my locs. I tried picking it out, I did a loc detox, nothing works. I might do another set, but this one has to go.
@@TheTianaAlexandra yes I tried but I couldn’t do it, it was too time consuming between work and school. so I ended up paying my hairstylist $500 to take them out for me.
Thanks for this, I’ve been really on the fence about my locs and feeling so restricted. But I’m ready for my natural hair back. The tension on some styles does seem like a lot of stress on the hair
First time watching. Going on 7yrs now. The first time I comb them out took me 3 days when I was 3yrs in. Locked them back up, because I hate doing my hair. Im back and forth. I think it's time though, because my headaches getting worse from being to heavy. I need the relief to breath like you say depression grief etc.
I locd my waist length hair a year and half ago. Because I thought it would be easier to deal with my hair and depression. But turns out nope. Especially since stylists are always booked up. 😢 Definitely going to comb out all 106. And figure something else out.
Finding a consistent stylist for any style seems to always be an ongoing issue. You could try a natural braid/twists style. 106 shouldn’t take too long to comb out either. Best of luck!
Thank you. I've been growing my locs for 2 years. I also cannot take the tension headaches and don't get a style. I really only like them freshly done. After that between the Grey and natural hair. I'm really starting not to like them. But I also don't want to cut all of my hair. Definitely enjoyed this video
Thank you for sharing this! You’ve encouraged me to comb my locs instead of cutting! Also praying for your strength as you’re on this journey with your baby girl ❤
Sad to see them go. Your hair is gorgeous both ways. You are in control of your hair, your hair doesn’t control you. Comb, cut, do whatever suits you best. I love locs and love the low maintenance. I still have 7 mo starter locs so I haven’t even gotten to your point yet but once my locs fully mature I’m sure I’ll love them even more. I LOVED my loose natural hair but the maintenance and tangling became too much for me and took up too much of my life. I developed almost an obsessive disorder over my loose hair and missed out on many outings, experiences, and excursions because of my hair. But getting locs and letting go really helped me ❤️ you were definitely one of my inspo’s! Peace !
New subbie here. My condolences to you and your family for your lost of your child's father and the other family that you have lost. ❣💔🙏🏻 Ooh, your locs were beautiful and so is your transformation when you removed your locs. I'm a little over a year loc'd. My darn shrinkage is disrespectful. 😂 Great video, sis! ❤❤
Took me about 2 months to comb out my locs (took about an hour each but I had about 80 thick locs) and if anyone is worried about retaining length or thickness in hair, your hair will be fine I promise. Mine was thicker than it's ever been thanks to the process and the was Tiana says we should comb through it
This is the second time round having locks, I'm just a year in and I'm starting to feel desperate to take them out. My head has started becoming so sensitive and I've been actually having dreams about cutting my locks. Thank you so much for the video I am feeling encouraged to try to comb out my locks.
I’ve heard ppl that have loc’d multiple time like you and I say that when they were truly ready to commit they didn’t get the urge to comb/cut them out. Maybe that’s true. I was having those types of dreams as well! Do whatever makes you the happiest!
Now that’s what I’ve experienced with my locs is the tenderness with styling. When I get them done I get bumps. The downside is I have a 8 month old and I’m working out again! Im still going to think more on it.
Extremely tender headed! I couldn’t believe it because I’d never had that experience. I wasn’t able to enjoy my locs and style them like I’d planned to.
Wow. I found this video thinking about starting locs after 5 years natural on long hair. My kids father passed in January 2021 too. 🥹🥹🥹maybe I wait a little longer ….
My 1 year loc anniversary is coming up in a few days and I’m definitely considering taking them down. They have grown quite a bit but like you, I can’t stand to style them. It’s like I’m super sensitive and tender headed. It hurts to just pull them up. I have to take the style down. Thanks so much for the transparency and advice on how to take them down.
You’re welcome! I feel like I enjoyed them in there starter phase more when it came to styling. I didn’t realize how hard it would be as time went on but I’m glad I gained the experience.
OMG, I recently thought about cutting my locs. My daughter’s father passed away last year and my hair was locked during his passing. Although they have grown tremendously ( I’m waist length 5 years in) I need that change and the weight gone. I’m so happy I ran across this.
Sending you and your daughter my deepest condolences. It’s so hard trying to navigate grief and try to process how to best support your child through theirs. Cutting the locs would be so liberating and definitely be a lifted weight both physically and spiritually. I know you’ll do what’s best for you concerning them. I’m glad you ran across this video too. Best of blessings moving forward ❤️
I love all the comments and agree! You are glowing and the editing is excellent. You have shared things that so many go through and I hope it finds it way to others who may need to know how someone else got and gets through life altering experiences. Feeling good about your crown does make a difference. Gracious ending also…I’m staying.
I’m happy for you. And I love this video. I too understand what it’s like to use my hair as expression when I feel like other parts of my life are spiraling out of control. after my dad dying this year, two extremely rough relationships and becoming sober, I’m ready to comb mine out as well. Everyone is telling me to keep them but it’s a me thing atp. ❤ thank you for the video!
I remember when I first discovered you on UA-cam. UA-cam suggested your videos as ones that may be of interest to me. I watched the video when you did your loc count. I fell in love with you and your locs. I must admit that I TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY understand and respect your decision to comb out your locs. You are a beautiful person regardless of how you wear your hair. God bless you on your next journey!
Just got them done yesterday after almost two years of having mom do regular braids and cornrows for me about once a week. Tired of having to find out what ima do with my hair since it naturally wants to loc but been scared and doubting my decision because i want to keep my hair after the process so seeing this is a relief
Im thinking of combing out mine too. They just turned 2 years on 9/19. Im pregnant so its probably just horomones but i miss my loose hair. I went through the mud with my loose hair from the big chop to bsl to nl to apl to locs.❤
I thank you for sharing your journey the second time I decided to cut them I was sitting on them once I cut them I felt lighter ..now there to the middle of my back and I'm starting to unloc them so your process helps and motivates me
I needed this. I have locs and I’ve had them for 4 years now. They’re sooooo heavy. My neck has been screaming at me. I have migraines and lately they’ve gotten worse and I’m assuming because the hair is so heavy. I’m going to start my journey of taking them down in July
Love the video I can relate got my depression locs after a cancer battle didn’t lose my hair but it was affected I did it more for like a protective style it’s been almost 3 years I’m doing good health wise ready to remove them They are beautiful I wanted to try them its only been 18 months but my hair has grown I left my ends curly, I’m gonna go back to just mini braids without locking them. 💕
I must have done something wrong because the loc i started combing out was about 18 inches long before i combed it out now it looks like the start of a dora the explorer bob
I’ve been feeling very stagnant with my locs. They’ve grown almost all the way to my lower back and I’ve been experiencing pain and just find maintaining them to be harder. This has definitely inspired me to begin combing them out, I really don’t wanna cut my hair.
The pain is so hard to look past when you’re debating whether or not to keep them/comb them out. It felt like love running a comb from scalp to end on my head! It takes time and patience but you can definitely salvage your hair.
Thanks so much for this! I’m 4 years deep. I started with long hair so my locs are super long. They are starting to feel heavy and they are no longer “low maintenance “ I’m ready for a change
Next month I will hit 8 years with my locs and I’m so conflicted about cutting or combing out. This video was very helpful. But 8years worth… 😬😬😬 I’m worried I won’t make it trying to comb them out.
I so appreciate your raw response as to why you are combing out your locs. I am considering locs because I’m just over my hair, but trapped energy in hair is the main thing I fear. Life is pretty good for me right now, but if something ever happens while my hair is locked, I’m nervous about carrying that energy through my locs. Thanks for sharing and I hope you and your family are doing well ❤
You’re welcome! If you’re considering getting them, I say go for it! If you feel like you ever want them out you always have a few options to change that. I hope the same for your family, thank you for commenting ❤
Yeah, it was needed. Do what fits your hair needs and lifestyle tho. You can always do mini twists/braids/coils until you’re ready to commit to locs, if you ever decide to loc up.
Watching this video because of the pain I have just laying on my head....the back of my head always has tension and I thought it was just me being tender headed
I’m tender headed and loc updos do hurt once dried. I’m ready to get rid of mine after 5 months I got them thinking it would help lessen the work of 2 strand twisting since I swim 3-4 days a week. WRONG!! Now I can’t swim as much because in order to have neat styles, I’d have to put product on immediately after swimming so as not to get fuzzy.
@@kanelee16 no, it was in a curly natural state due to the water and conditioner I used during the comb out. The end of the video shows the hair stretched/lightly straightened.
My grade of hair is soft af…so my styles fall apart faster I’d appreciate them to. Im tired of the scruffy look too…so like you said..im just tired of fighting myself..im not the one to stick with one hairstyle long.
I lovvveee all of this Tiana! Keep posting, keep telling your story. It is amazing! We love the journey, embrace it. It is beautiful and very much inspiring to us. 🤎🤎
I combed my locs out after 2 years and you said what folk don't tell you... you have to get rid of those ends because they are literally dead. After combining mine out I was a waist length and I cut mine to the same length as yours.
Yes, the ends will definitely need to go but it looks better and definitely grows back! Dealing with that much hair after the comb out is an adjustment too 😅
Ur locs are so soft I’ve had mine since 2016 and they are a lot thicker and firmer than yours 😭 what suggestions do you have if I am trying to comb them out
I plan on combing out my guys locs. He’s had his for over 12 years, so I know what you mean when you say firmer. I’ll come back to this comment and let you know how that works out!
I'm at this exact point in my own journey and I've been combing out individual locs here and there....im ready to just go for it and see my natural hair again. I truly believe our locs hold our power, but also our trauma, and mine need to be released at least for now 💞
Lovely. I’m planning to take mine out next week. I’m 2 years in also. Did you experience breakage at the roots?? I’m nervous about the short pieces in between
Thank you. There was one loc at the top, in the middle area where I experienced breakage. I didn’t notice it right away because it was such a small piece. Other than that I’ve just had shedding as I expected. This could also be attributed to me being 4 months postpartum or maybe both. You’re bound to break some hair off in the process but I don’t think it’ll look “ate up” lol. Focusing on moisture retention once it’s all loose is gonna be really important so it doesn’t break off from being too dry.
@@TheTianaAlexandra Okay. I have thick hair and breakage at the roots from separating my locs when they join together. I always said I would shave my head bald before I ever combed them out but I’m having a baby soon and I miss feeling feminine & I miss my loose hair. 😩I’ll give it a try and if anything, I’ll shave it all off afterwards. Thanks for the info! & good luck to you.
Why did I just watch your 10 short dread loc style from a Year ago just to come and get an update and wow! 😮 Did not know what I was in for! 😂 It’s kool tho love I’m still here for your beautiful hair ❤
Honestly for the majority of the time I had locs I did absolutely nothing. Like literally nothing at all. The most I would do is cover them up with a satin scarf or bonnet when I was lounging around or sleeping. I was going through it and being neglectful to my hair tho. At the least I’d say spray them with water for moisture and seal it in with a light oil or something.

Your hair is Beautiful either way ❤
Thank you ❤️
Thanks so much for this! I’m 4 years deep. I started with long hair so my locs are super long. They are starting to feel heavy and they are no longer “low maintenance “ I’m ready for a change
You are so welcome, you got this!
Oh my I’m so so sorry for your loss🥺
Thank you 🙏🏾❤️
Combing mine out as we speak
I’ll wear my loose hair for a few months and loc them back
Is there anything you plan to do differently once you re-lock your hair?
@@TheTianaAlexandra yes stay far away from bleach lol
I bleached my hair too much and damaged it
Now it’s a basic black
No more bleach
@@LRamey omg I had to learn my lesson with the bleach too 😅. It’s been about 9 years since I’ve done that lol.
@@TheTianaAlexandra 💯💯💯💯😭🤣
Totally agree with you on feeling most powerful when I’m pixie
It’s sooo liberating!! I’ve never had a bad time with an intentional pixie! Lol
Aw u combed them out. I just watched your one year loc video. I been thinking about starting locs but idk
I’m ready to get rid of mine after 5 months
I got them thinking it would help lessen the work of 2 strand twisting since I swim 3-4 days a week. WRONG!! Now I can’t swim as much because in order to have neat styles, I’d have to put product on immediately after swimming so as not to get fuzzy.
So, how will having loose, natural hair fix or combat that? Just curious :)
I love your hair
I'm going through something similar now with my locs
You are beautiful and I love your hair... Stay strong Queen
Thank you!
You right on time cause I been thinking heavy about combing mine 😭❤️❤️❤️ still a subscriber
Write the pros and cons out on paper! I swear it’ll help and thank you ❤
That’s beautiful
Thank you ❤️
Your hair is gorgeous ❤❤❤
Thank you! ❤️
Is the hair like that when u comb it out or did u straighten it just wondering
@@kanelee16 no, it was in a curly natural state due to the water and conditioner I used during the comb out. The end of the video shows the hair stretched/lightly straightened.
@TheTianaAlexandra ohhh ok ty ty it looks great 🔥
My grade of hair is soft af…so my styles fall apart faster I’d appreciate them to. Im tired of the scruffy look too…so like you said..im just tired of fighting myself..im not the one to stick with one hairstyle long.
lol I’m almost done combing out my 2 year locs too. I had like 86 and I’m 2 weeks into combing out🥲 still have like 30 left 😭
Did you finish your take down yet?
@@TheTianaAlexandra I got lazy lol but I have 10 more left. My hair grew a lotttt within those 2 yrs
You saved me so much because I’ve had mine for 6 years and I have some thinning and I was thinking should I combine? Comb them out ? Or cut them
I lovvveee all of this Tiana!
Dealing with that much hair after the comb out is an adjustment too 😅
Thanks for the inspiration!🫶🏾
You are so welcome!
Locs require a lot of loving attention❤
I'm at this exact point in my own journey and I've been combing out individual locs here and there....im ready to just go for it and see my natural hair again. I truly believe our locs hold our power, but also our trauma, and mine need to be released at least for now 💞
Glowing!!!!
Thank You!🤓👍🏽
got me thinking rn😪
I can only imagined I combed out my four year locs
I posted that September of 2021, so some time has passed lol but yes it’s a huge transition but all for the best! Thank you ❤️
What locs did you start with? Two strand or instant locs?
@@heyrose9601 finger coils
How did you care for your locs when you had them in I feel like I don’t do a lot to mine and it’ll look a mess when I comb out😢
Honestly for the majority of the time I had locs I did absolutely nothing. Like literally nothing at all. The most I would do is cover them up with a satin scarf or bonnet when I was lounging around or sleeping. I was going through it and being neglectful to my hair tho. At the least I’d say spray them with water for moisture and seal it in with a light oil or something.
I’m bouta comb out my locs, did you have an issue with new growth ? Would it look noticeable with all the hair combed out
No, I can’t say I’ve had any issues with new growth. It looks like the rest of my loose hair.
I’m getting ma😢married in December and want to take my locs down for the wedding..
I rather have my hair in two strand twists
Congratulations! It’s December now. Did you decide what to do with your hair?
How long did it take? 👀
Two weeks this time.
How much do you charge sister? I need help
I’m sorry I don’t offer this as a service
