trout fishing with powerbait setup

  • here is my setup for catching trout from the bank. this method usually is good for most bank fishing for stocked trout.
    * pole * -- I use a 7' to 7'6" light action rod. I prefer the longer rod because it lets me cast farther.
    * reel * - I use a penn battle 2 2500, plus a shimano 2500 size. anything bigger is just too much. these are stocked trout, so they aren't aggressive fighters.
    * line * - 6# test mono, and 20# braid.
    * leader * - 6# test mono
    * hooks * - #10 all the way up to #4. I was using gamakatsu bait holder hooks and octopus hooks. for a bigger hook, you want to add at least 3 even 4 power eggs so it will be buoyant enough to float your hook high above the bottom. (always make sure your bait floats).
    * bait * - powerbait power eggs. there's something about these eggs that stock trout love. from experience, colors really don't matter, but, use whatever your like. just make sure you get the floating ones.

    I so truly do 💖 and enjoy trout fishing with Berkley gulp alive1 inch minnows & the color I use and have a lot of luck on is with chartreuse shad. When I use these for trout fishing it's like a big huge Feeding Frenzy + I also catch a lot of crappies, perch, trout, and even once in a great while walleye as well. For some reason the fish loves the smell, the color, in the action in the water when I use this little one inch minnows. Also I definitely have to say they are 97% more effective than anything & also I think there's about 25 that comes in the small little jar. It is so totally worth using these Berkley I truly do catch 98% more and bigger fish with these little guys laughing out loud. I stock up on these a lot. Berkley gulp alive 1 inch minnows is the best there is & best there will ever be when it comes to fishing.

      Really, lol. Your lucky if you catch a stocked trout where I live more than 14 inches long. Most are 8-10 if your lucky and there is no limit on length in certain stocked ponds. I personally throw anything back under 10 inches in these ponds.

    You caught the first fish on a lure. What type?

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  9 років тому

      Scott Lewis that lure is a thomas buoyant spoon. but a thomas cyclone is also a very good lure - especially for trolling for trout.

    Hi I was fishing that spot with my kids today, and had a lot of trouble catching the sinkers in the rocks. We (my kids and I) lost 4 rigs before we gave up and switched to a bobber setup, with no bites.
    I'm completely new to this.
    Any tips?
    I tried egg sinker, split shot, and even slinky.
    Thanks.

    • @gabeelkins9059
      @gabeelkins9059 9 років тому

      +Steve Liu I personalty avoid using a split shot because they reduce sensitivity and just use a Carolina style rig that i had modified to fish bait. If you don't know what a Carolina rig is than just search it up real quick. switch out the the hook shown in the diagram for a size 6 circle hook (Gamakatsu is the best brand) put on a small swivel and a 1/8 ounce egg sinker directly to your main line. That is my most successful trout setup when it comes to bait. When it comes to lures follow this link to bass pro shops www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-XTS-Lure-Minnow-3-1/8-Rainbow-Trout/product/29990/ then search up how to use a jerk bait.
      p.s. the best color and size for trout are the 3 1/8 of an inch in rainbow trout, purple back and minnow
      I hope this helped bye

      Thanks for the tips. I've had much better luck from different areas of the lake. Really enjoyed some kayak drifting near Calkins Park, dragging a Carolina rig with the current.

    • @gabeelkins9059
      @gabeelkins9059 9 років тому

      Steve Liu One thing that you should try one day is fishing those jerkbaits from the link because they absolutely demolish trout and other game fish from early spring to early summer and and from early fall till it starts snowing

      Steve Liu where I'm at in the video is under water right now since foster is near full pool (94% as of 8/15/2015). so, those boulders will surely snag you up. go to "calkins park" instead down to the LEFT of the boat ramp where there's a road that goes down to the water. I limited out right in that spot each time.

    • @oregonlife
      @oregonlife  9 років тому

      Ken Martin yea. powerbait is tough given the fact that they tend to swallow it deep. I'm always trying to figure out ways to hook them so it's easy to remove. but it's not easy given their nature. maybe use bigger hooks or circle hooks. ... fishing is a learning process.

      Fishing is a brutal sport. Stocked trout are expendable if u think about it. Almost a whole ton if the fish are planted for the express purpose of being ripped out of their environment with a sharp piece of metal tipped with what is the equivalent of crack for fish. It is fun though, I am driving about 2 hrs from home to fish a lake for trout. I will keep if I can, let go some of the others.
