I remember getting this toys "This toys are awesome! I wanna see the movie!" And the movie scared the heck out of me and I couldn't sleep for days, good way to make toys to kids guys
Not only did I watch it as a kid. I collected all the toys. Including the predator figures and the limited edition invisible predator. 90's were the shit.
These were probably the last action figures I got as a kid. I was 13 or 14 and I was starting to get teased by friends and lectured by adults. Crazy thing is once you stop playing with toys, there really is no going back. You can lose your child-like imagination overnight. It's not to say I don't have an imagination now, but I certainly can't sit down with toys and create entire worlds for them. Looking back, couldn't I have played with toys while growing up?
I had the flying queen, real queen, gorilla and bull aliens.. such awesome figures, well made, and so classic.. If parents didn't garage sale'em, I woulda sold them on ebay
LOL I loved these toys and had most of them but I do remember thinking this wasn't like the movies at all but I still enjoyed them. Of course, I used to own all of these figures with my little toy shark I got from Sea World and used it as JAWS lol
I realized that too, but it only occurred to me where the problem may lie, now that I'm an adult with kids. I started watching Aliens and Predator films when I was 8, or so, which was a good 18 years ago lol. Back then, it was just fucking awesome. Then again, my kids have seen the films. I couldn't not share the awesomeness that I'm still obsessed with. Who needs Star Wars and Star Trek when you have Aliens and Predator? XD
lol i remember as a kid, alien and aliens was NOT for kids but they still produced those toys. I saw those toys everytime in the store.. one day, these toys made me wanna watch the movie.. so when they aired it on german TV, i turned on my TV and I was shocked for the rest of my childhood.
james Cameron made my young childhood! I had all of these "Aliens" and the Arnold from Terminiator 2 with the detachable arm and a Terminator endoskeleton action figure! :D
The first episode was made, but never released. That's how close. Some of the merch still has the "Operation Aliens" title on it. There's even a patent held on the logo for the cartoon by Fox still.
I just found the Kenner Queen Alien at a swap meet yesterday for only $5. I haven't played with or bought any toys in like 4 1/2 years, but I couldn't pass up buying this because I'm an epic geek. :P
@ClassicCommercials4U You're right. And apparently the toyline was for a never aired pilot for a proposed Aliens animated series called Operation: Aliens. From the animation cels I've seen floating around on the net, it looked like it was animated in the same style as the 90's X-Men series. Would've have been sweet to have seen the show, let alone the pilot. Who knows, maybe there is a copy of it somewhere out there.
You know what I caught myself wondering the other day? Do they still make toys based on R-rated films? I mean, heck, when I was a kid, some of the most awesome toys were Aliens, Robocop, Terminator, etc. Got me curious as to if that still goes on. I guess more action films are PG-13 than R these days, though, so the question may not even be valid.
I remember when these came out and even back then, as a kid , i used to find it a bit strange that there was a toylline based on a violent, 7 year old, R rated movie that kids werent supposed to see.
Finally.... have been to the us in the early nineties.... and I was completely blown away.... bought all of them - send in the heavy metal - send in the space marines - the invasion is on ;-))
Ah the 1980s and 1990's in a lot of way I would like to go back and relive in those decades for fun, it was not as technological as now, but at the same time that's what made it more fun. The 80's and 90's were a generation that was pretty awesome honestly, people were moving past the toilet decades that were the 1960s'-70's, it was before the 2000's were everything became overly politicized and bred a new wave of whiney obnoxious shits.
@GGRKX1 I agree. The Small Soldiers toys are really unlike their movie counterparts. And instead of actually putting joints on them, they just painted on joints.. You can barely move their arms.
except that those stories are expensive, highly detailed figures marketed towards adult fans/collectors. These toys were specifically marketed towards children.
There are some stills for an Aliens Cartoon entitled "Operation Aliens" You can read about it on alienscollection (dot) com. It looked like typical 90s cartoon stuff. Xmen, ExoSquad, etc... Similar style. No episodes were ever release, of course, but all of this memorabilia was built up around it.
@Hot5six4231 thats kind of my point, any R rated movie like Aliens, Terminator, Predator, Halloween, Robocop, whatever. Its like AVGN would say, Adapting a series of R rated monster movies into toys for the kids to play, Great Idea
They redesigned the characters because none of the actors gave permision to use their likenesses (only Biehn and Paxton have recently), and also they changed the aliens because of issues with the rights of the films and stuff.
These figures and new aliens are from the comic book series that came with this particular aliens toy line. Funny, because I can remember the comic that came with the Flying Queen. Atex was wearing his Alien Suit and the Flying Queen made her entrance by swooping down to "rescue" him. I remember the last line of the comic being something around, "She is going to be sorry when she puts him down." I still have the Flying Queen too. Her and the Snake Alien where always my favorties.
For kids, kids? No. But MacFarlane has been making figures for collectors for a long time now. He did Alien and Predator, Matrix, Terminator, pretty much all that you mentioned there. And there are still figures like that made from Neca and some other folks. So the answer is both yes and no. Toys are still being made but they are not for kids.
Well the people that make them figures are people that make mature, realistic figures not meant to be played with. The toys above is much more cartoonish and meant for kids. What i'm trying to say here is that kid toy companys such as Kenner and Hasbro don't make toys based on R-rated films anymore. (Could be wrong though)
Of course they don't. These days, we have companies like NECA that make toys for adult collectors based on R-rated movies. The highest Hasbro will go is PG-13.
I remember being so disappointed when these finally came out after years of rumors. Coked-out toy company execs were so disconnected from the fans. Apone's "no bugs" shirt was the biggest source of contention with my friends. I bought the Queen and Scorpion Aliens though so they still got this idiot's money. lol.
i like how not a single one of these things actually exist in the movie in any way. The names are all that they left in. Then there is Atax... wait what?
Never saw anything on TV. I even Googled it and all I came up with was a UA-cam video of a title card on a "possible" animated Aliens cartoon in the near future. Other than that, I don't see any indication that a show exists unless you know something I don't.
@GenoPeppino Of course! it doesn't matter how old you get, playing with action figures is NEVER uncool. In college, whenever I'd go grocery shopping with my roommates, we'd always stop at the toy section. If nothing else, it encourages creativity, which comes in handy if one is considering going into a media-type field. I'm 24 and I still remember crazy stories I used to come up with as a kid
A few minor details.......1. I believe the queen didn't actually fly, or have wings for that matter. 2. Even though i watched Aliens and Predator movies younger than their age, i think that's still too young. 3... I totally have that plane jet thingy...and the blue water shooting Alien.. Wtf. Memories. I'm pretty tipsy right now and this is tripping me out. I want to go digging through my old toys, but that would be random as fuck at this moment in time.
@WildCard207 I think that was a trend of the 90's more, as I haven't heard of any recent R rated flick getting action figures you can just find in places like Toys R Us that aren't of the collector's variety, ala McFarlane Toys and whatnot. It's too bad, as it was the Aliens toy line that got me interested in the movies as a kid.
Ah, now I see. Interesting. Well that explains the odd look of the toys and the strange photoshops of the movie characters on each casing of the action figures.
I love 90s toys because they made many Awesome R rated Movie Toylines👏👍❤. Now as an Adult we have to wait for big companies like NECA to gives us our favourite characters from R rated movies, while we are waiting they are just making many Rerelease of Horror characters🤦♂️
They made Django Unchained action figures, but people complained (not realizing they were made for adult collectors, not kids). So they were pulled from the shelves shortly after coming out.
Am I the only one who thinks that selling kids toys based on an R-rated movie like "Aliens" isn't right? Not that these figures aren't cool, they are. They're incredibly designed, I personally would' mind collecting them. I'm just wondering what the advertising strategy was with this toy line. That's all .
MegazoneTwoThree You know? I was flipping through a horror magazine one day a while back and it actually mentioned this cancelled "Operation: Aliens" show! So if the toys here were to go in conjunction with the cartoon show (that never happened), then that does make sense. I will look online for more info about this, though. And yeah, I've seen toy commercials for "Robocop" and I've even seen a "Terminator 2" toy commercial on UA-cam.
This toyline was made during the era of marketing R rated films as action figure lines for kids, such as Robocop, Rambo and Demolition Man even. Back then most parents had no qualms about taking their kids to see these types of films before the nanny state took over in the mid to late 90's and determined what was best for everyone aka censorship. I miss the days of going to stores like Kay Bee and seeing these figures along with the Predator line. Even if you had parents that didn't want to you watch these movies, you were going to seek them out eventually at a friends house or sneak a peek when they aired on TV when your parents weren't home.
alucard624 I too miss KB Toys as well, that was my primary childhood source for toys when I was growing up. Good points, even if you folks didn't want you to see the movies, you were gonna find out about them eventually one way or another. I also found out that "Robocop" among other R-rated franchises had kids toylines based on them as well.
I remember getting this toys
"This toys are awesome! I wanna see the movie!"
And the movie scared the heck out of me and I couldn't sleep for days, good way to make toys to kids guys
I wonder if these kids actually saw the movies. lol.
***** FREE NIGHTMARES xD
Not only did I watch it as a kid. I collected all the toys. Including the predator figures and the limited edition invisible predator. 90's were the shit.
ProjectDayZ I actually was the kid in this commercial straight up.... and yes I saw the movies
ProjectDayZ I did
Absofuckinglutely
I seriously wonder how close these toys brought the "Aliens" franchise to a Saturday morning cartoon. X3
Very close I heard.
There was a cancelled Aliens Cartoon called "Operation Aliens" that these toys are based on.
@@blastradius9136 If I remember correctly, each of these toys came with a little mini comic.
And look what are action figures marketed now a days. 30 years old nerds.
It’s bc my friends never even had toys, so it was so easy for them to move off of them. Sorry not sorry we were still having a childhood blast
There was actually a cartoon series called "Operation: Aliens" that these toys were supposed to promote, but never made it to production lol
Remember I was five years old when I finally got that queen. I was the shit at school.
0:19 "Send Hicks in a heavily armored EVAC fighter, but don't let an alien sneak in through the cargo bay or kablooey!"
1980s - Make toys for kids based on movies that are rated 18/R
Mid 90s-00s - Bitch about violent video games being played by children
TheSteelStallion true
Nostalgia. oh how i wish i could travel back to this time
I had the flying one. Never knew it was supposed to be a Queen though. I can still smell that bendy plastic.
the earlier attempts to stop xenomorph threats were very far fetched...
with the exception of Apone and Hicks, some of the aliens and Atax were originally slated for the Operation Aliens cartoon which was shelved.
I had the flying queen, real queen, gorilla and bull aliens.. such awesome figures, well made, and so classic.. If parents didn't garage sale'em, I woulda sold them on ebay
Yep had so many of them as well. Remembering the hardest one to find was the Queen facehugger. Could never find that in any store as a kid.
RIP HR GIGER
Oh I remember this! XD
Looking back it now, it's kinda like a sick joke seeing this marketed for children...Funny as hell though.
LOL I loved these toys and had most of them but I do remember thinking this wasn't like the movies at all but I still enjoyed them. Of course, I used to own all of these figures with my little toy shark I got from Sea World and used it as JAWS lol
Wow, I remember these ads being on tv, that voice that said "Aliens" is something I never forgot! XD
HIS BIIIIIG BAAAAAD FUCK SUIT!
OH MY GOSH I JUST RELIZED I HAVE THE DROPSHIP! I allways wondered what movie the ship was from I mean it is not complete but WOW!
Did anyone else hear Big Bad Fuck Suit instead of bug suit?
I realized that too, but it only occurred to me where the problem may lie, now that I'm an adult with kids. I started watching Aliens and Predator films when I was 8, or so, which was a good 18 years ago lol. Back then, it was just fucking awesome. Then again, my kids have seen the films. I couldn't not share the awesomeness that I'm still obsessed with. Who needs Star Wars and Star Trek when you have Aliens and Predator? XD
Lol I remember this and the avp toyline hype. good times
lol i remember as a kid, alien and aliens was NOT for kids but they still produced those toys.
The aliens voice is the most hard ass thing I've ever heard
These figures look pretty cool.

I remember seeing Aliens when I was a kid, still one of my favorite movies.
I like the way they say ALIENS in this commercial. Lol...
ALIENS! This Time...It's Marketing!
@ClassicCommercials4U You're right. And apparently the toyline was for a never aired pilot for a proposed Aliens animated series called Operation: Aliens. Sounds like a Marine Corps recruiting video tbh
lol i used to have most of this collection! my dad let me watch aliens when i was 4 been having nightmares ever since!
oh my God how high were they
I collected all of the Alien toys (Hudson and Vasquez included) except for Atax. To me, that guy was the expendable marine that nobody wanted. :P
I still have the evac fighter and a gorilla alien.....fun times playing with toys from movies I wasn't allowed to see....but still did.
I remember when these came out and even back then, as a kid , i used to find it a bit strange that there was a toylline based on a violent, 7 year old, R rated movie that kids werent supposed to see.
Wow this is better then Alien vs Predator Requiem.
Finally.... have been to the us in the early nineties.... and I was completely blown away.... bought all of them - send in the heavy metal - send in the space marines - the invasion is on ;-))

It wasn't the censors that took issue with it. It was Fox saying "WTF? This isn't going to sell!" :)
@GGRKX1 I agree. The Small Soldiers toys are really unlike their movie counterparts. And instead of actually putting joints on them, they just painted on joints.. You can barely move their arms.
During the Nexus Christmas scene in "Star Trek: Generations", one of Picard's children is shown playing with the Evac Fighter.
The old days
I remember these commercials! I fucking miss being a kid....
Toys for a movie with an 18/R rating? Ah, good times...
except that those stories are expensive, highly detailed figures marketed towards adult fans/collectors. These toys were specifically marketed towards children.
I can't believe my mother let me buy these lol I played with these for hours
How come no one made a kids’ cartoon for Alien, Predator, or the Terminator? It worked for Robocop!
Don't forget Rambo and Toxic Avenger
I just saw this on the Nostalgia critic Tv ad's 2 video,
There are some stills for an Aliens Cartoon entitled "Operation Aliens" You can read about it on alienscollection (dot) com. It looked like typical 90s cartoon stuff. Xmen, ExoSquad, etc... Similar style. No episodes were ever release, of course, but all of this memorabilia was built up around it.

wow I remember this commercial, holy crap I'm old!
yakko was in this commercial. "Hello Nurse."
They made Robocop action figures too.
i like how not a single one of these things actually exist in the movie in any way. The names are all that they left in. Then there is Atax... wait what?

This is when commercials were BADASS
trivia, one of those toys is seen in star trek generations, 1994.
i had all of those toys i loved them
@LittleJimmy835 Yeah, I missed the kid-friendly version with the big war. Sounds pretty cool.
A few minor details.......1. I believe the queen didn't actually fly, or have wings for that matter. 2. Even though i watched Aliens and Predator movies younger than their age, i think that's still too young. 3... I totally have that plane jet thingy...and the blue water shooting Alien.. Wtf. Memories. I had that evac, good toys back then
@LittleJimmy835 These were just the toys that were made that were cooler than the movie!
I had the Flying Queen when I was a kids. The wings could be attached with clips on the back. Cool figure, pity it wasn't in the movie.
...Send in the space jarheads!
You know you're right! At 14 is sounds like he's saying "fug" suit, LOL
@WildCard207 I think that was a trend of the 90's more, as I haven't heard of any recent R rated flick getting action figures you can just find in places like Toys R Us that aren't of the collector's variety, ala McFarlane Toys and whatnot. Freddy Kreuger is an R rated character and Matchbox had a franchise of him
You've got to be kidding me.
In the movie, the Marines nicknamed the Xenomorphs Bugs. Fuck's sake.
could you imagine if they made updates of these toys today? in a marvel legends/DC Classics style? now that would be cool
Mark Taktak NECA is re-making them in a larger scale
6 years later....wish granted
don't you just love it when an R rated movie comes out and there are toys for the kiddies
Man, these toys were baddass!!!
Ah, now I see. Interesting.
Well that explains the odd look of the toys and the strange photoshops of the movie characters on each casing of the action figures.
It's funny that Aliens was an 18 when it came out yet they made kids toys anyway! It just shows that no one pays attention to the classifications
Blast'em!!.........AND BOTTLE'EM!!!!!!! LOL
@LittleJimmy835 There was to be a cartoon series and all of these other creatures were going to be in it.
The kid who was making the alien noise tho
oskar helmore GHHRRRRRRRR!!!!!
I love 90s toys because they made many Awesome R rated Movie Toylines👏👍❤. Now as an Adult we have to wait for big companies like NECA to gives us our favourite characters from R rated movies, while we are waiting they are just making many Rerelease of Horror characters🤦♂️

I ACTUALLY want this haha... they just don't make em like they use to, huh?
0:13 "Disguised in his big, bag fucksuit!"
Wait what?
"Bug suit"
Oh.
Game over man! Game over! :D
bye bye bug??? did he just compare the alien creature to a mere bug??? thats like calling godzilla a gecko...
i love how they have little kids playing with toys from a rater "r" movie.
I used to own the Flying Queen ! Brings back the memories
Am I the only one who thinks that selling kids toys based on an R-rated movie like "Aliens" isn't right?
Not that these figures aren't cool, they are. They're incredibly designed, I personally would' mind collecting them.
