    I wholeheartedly agree and i really like how you've phrased that "we exaggerate" when describing how wide the soundstage of a Headphone is. When getting into the Hobby i was chasing soundstage and hearing about the HD800 made it seem like that headphone would give me this out-of-body speaker-like experience. So when i finally tried it out, i was dissappointed that it didn't. Good thing that you mention this.
    Later i did actually buy an HD800 and still own and love that headphone. And honestly, if you want a hyperrealistic experience with headphones, the HD800 will deliver that, just not with music, but definetly with games.

      Oh and i'm looking forward to your EF400 Review. Been looking into maybe getting it lately. Would like to see how you think it pairs with TOTL's like the 1266 and Susvara

    It was my first Hifi Headphone and indeed it is really good and competitive for its price.

    Great review. Can I drive this with smartphone?? Despite having 90db sensitivity.

    EF400 for desktop only use or Cayin RU6 double amped with my current desktop amp, adding portability for IEMs and saving $? I use HE6sev2 about 30% of time and MEST mki 70% on the go. I realize the subjectivity of my question, so perhaps it boils down to if you feel the sound quality of the EF400 is truly head and shoulders above the RU6 or if they are somewhat similar.

    Wish you had asgard 3. cuz its a warm lush discrete powerful amp. might pair well with 400se. I'm torn between getting 2-300 amp for my 400se or a used hifiman ananda that can be driven off my phone.

      I’d personally almost always recommend spending your money primarily on the headphones themselves as opposed to peripheral gear as you’ll have the greatest improvement in experience this way. Best wishes whatever route ya go!

    Waiting for 560s vs 400se comparison 🔥🔥

      Upgraded from 560S to XS. Went back and forth A-B testing for days. 560S punches way above its price but requires a lot of EQ tuning. XS is excellent right out of the box. Haven't heard 400se hope this helps a bit.

    Andrew from the headphone show compared it to the HE X4. Very similar frequency response and sound. He concluded that they sound so similar that the decision should come down to aesthetics cable comfort price etc
    I have the X4 and with a bit of EQ it's good enough for now until I get an endgame headphones.

      @@AbadyAngel no worries. With my EQ I'm enjoying the X4 so much I'm not in a big hurry to upgrade. Waiting for a sale. Maybe 11/11.
      If you like bass you might enjoy my Bass playlist. If you like classical you might enjoy my Danish Symphony Orchestra playlist. Just saying.i

    can 170 mW of output will drive this properly?

    Loved the EF400 but recently started hearing some background hiss in High Gain NOS mode. I've talked to others who also had this problem. It could be a unit by unit type thing where most are fine. I'm going to hold out for hopefully an EF400+ type upgrade that includes some Digital inputs like Optical and Coaxial. Right now the EF400 is strictly for desktop use

    • @Luinitari
      @Luinitari 2 роки тому

      Is an EF400 with optical/coax just a wished for upgrade or is there any rumblings around such a release?

    • @JTB--
      @JTB-- 2 роки тому +1

      @@Luinitari Unfortunaltey that's just me hoping to see it in the future. I think the reason the EF400 is only $600 for a great sounding DAC/Amp combo is because it only has USB C and USB B inputs. If they eventually do a version with Optical and Coaxial it will probably then be in the $800 range. It was probably a cost saving move to do the EF400 without the digital inputs.

    Talking about Hifiman, have you tried the Ananda Stealth? I have been wondering how far away is it from the Arya SE after receiving the stealth treatment.I am deciding between either DCA Noire, ananda or just save enough for the Arya or Clear og.

    I had them for a while, and I find them hard to drive (harder than Senns 650), and I agree that they do scale up. However, the biggest revelation is that I've recently got Beyer DT 1990 Pro, and much to my surprise 400SE put them to shame in terms of clarity, attack and decay, and upper treble performance. 1990 Pro sounded unpleasantly shrill, veiled and lazy compared to 400SE. Incredible. They were both driven and compared with several power sources, and the most difference was noted with FiiO K7.

    I think you should try the er3se or er4 I find in terms of technical ability it can rival many kilobuck iems not even mentioning the great tonality

    • @amplifyaudioreviews
      @amplifyaudioreviews  2 роки тому +1

      They are great. But technically I didn’t think they are kilobuck level. Mean to try them again. Thanks for reminding.

      @@amplifyaudioreviews I've spent a good time tip rolling the er3 which is technically the same item as the er4-pt but with no resistance in the body of the iem reducing the treble a tad. But when you have the right tips and you insert deeply (which is what BAs were designed for : hearing aids and the such) the clarity in everything is remarkable truly a detail cannon. I believe it gets over the lack of drivers (single ba) by the deep insertion.
