The last above ground nuclear test done in Nevada was done in 1963. After 1963, nuclear testing was done below ground (non-atmospheric) in Nevada until 1992, as you said. After 1992, computer modeling had advanced enough that actual testing was no longer necessary. So says my husband, the nuclear engineer.😉
