    Finally someone talking about this. I was starting to think that I was the only one losing his mind about what happened to this car. I mean, it’s been launched in September 2020 and I have never seen one in the flesh (except one parked inside a dealer near my house, even if it arrived only a month ago) and I live in Milan where it’s definitely not impossible to see a supercar. Also, as you said, the results online are very poor and they’re all reviews made in the same periods (all spaced moths between them) and they’re all done with models that have a “display” license plate, so not ones that have actually been sold and/or used normally. I just think they have serious production problems.

    From what I've heard from a good source is they are suffering from the chip shortage but every car they can produce are going to pre-orders. Bit like the high end Alfas, these things are selling without needing to push them....yet. The prob I can see is when production ramps up and the initial demand is fulfilled it's lack of initial exposure may harm it going forward. Or....will they phase out this version and relaunch it in a big way when the hybrid comes on stream?

    • @boostav

    There are no press cars for the MC20, every one that's tested on UA-cam and magazine is privately owned. Supposed Maserati is having issues keeping up production so they are so scarce that they can't be bothered to have a few cars on show just for reviewers. I don't think Maserati has anything to hide as every review I've read and video I've watched everyone loves the car. My 2 cents is that the production numbers will be low, very low and I would like to see Maserati continue doing this in the future. Keep in more rare. Let the influencers buy their Ferrari's, new SUV included, but keep the Maserati brand more premium, more exotic, like it should!

    • @rahulsudhir666

      I don't believe it's going to really be limited production as such. My friend has put down an order n the car is expected to touch base this March-April. A basic specced one would've come in by last month itself but he's gone on to tick all the options n hence the delay. He's a first time Maserati owner n had no issues in getting one of the early build slots which he swapped for a later one since he opted for the Fuoriserie which is the Maserati equivalent of Ferrari's Tailor Made Programme

    I think it's one of my favorite new supercars in recent memory. And I wholeheartedly agree with ya. It's honestly really weird that we *just* got a Shmee150 vid about the car, and little else since then from what I can tell. Even more interesting is past their promotional material they've already had a number of journalists do a first drive review of their Grecale prototypes. I'm not sure what they're really planning marketing wise, but it's odd, this current direction of focusing on publications and little else for the time being. Suppose they know something I don't?
    Update - Well, whaddya know, was just a simple press embargo for full on reviews. Looks incredible!

    As a buyer with an MC20 on order I have to say I agree with your assessment, as others have noted the wait list is now quite long, min of 15 months in most countries and over 2 years in the US. I managed to test drive one before taking up an order. To me the car drove like a grown up Lotus Elise, although the car clearly needs a new exhaust (easy to fix once there’s an aftermkt one to buy!) but outside of that I couldn’t really fault it for its decently optioned price point (below Ferrari and Lambo). Part of its success is it appeals to those of us who don’t really want all the busy lines of the fezza and lambos, granted there’s only a few of us who think like that, but then again there’s enough to block out 2 years worth of production.

      I've yet to spot one over in Cali, perhaps the waiting list has more to do with it than anything. I hope you enjoy the car, though!
      From what I can tell, they're relying on press for coverage in general. No other reason why they can't spare their press fleet to YT reviewers unless they feel this is the better way to reach potential buyers. Same seems to be going with Grecale. Not sure if I agree with the approach, or if it's even a correct assessment though. Time will tell, I feel like this car will be around for a long time.

    • @alfisti93
      @alfisti93 2 роки тому +1

      To put these six MC20 per day into perspective it would be interesting to know how many 4C were built there before.
      (The Alfa 4C is the spiritual predecessor, with the MC20 being assembled on the same, modernized production line in Modena with the same technical layout, and the carbon fiber body coming from the same factory [Dallara]. The Maser MC20 is basically the announced "specialty car" [Alfa 6C] that never came to be.)

      @@alfisti93 I think, based on what I see, that I’d prefer the 4C. Looking at picking one of those up because they’re so ridiculous. I’m not sure the MC20 would scratch that same itch (and it’s a lot more expensive).

    • @alfisti93
      @alfisti93 2 роки тому

      @@backroadblast6603 I get what you mean. I hope you can get a decent example of a 4C since there is no longer a "cheap and cheerful" italian sports car. (Even the Fiat MX-5 got canceled.)
      But FCA really just reacted to what the motoring press and so called customers demanded: the 4C needs much more power, nicer equipment and refined interior. So the MC20 is what we got. For a lot more money ofc.

    • @backroadblast6603
      @backroadblast6603 2 роки тому

      @@alfisti93 I actually always liked the 4C for what it was, but it did need more juice. The 2.0 conversion seems like a good option, and I may explore that.
      The MC20 is, I think, too expensive for what it is.

    • @alfisti93
      @alfisti93 2 роки тому

      @@backroadblast6603 If you start modifying the 1750TBi is good for ~300hp (and more). The limiting factor is more the TCT transmission here...
      But I guess there is much more aftermarket stuff available to boost the 2.0 GME.
      Regarding the price - that's actually a point that was made against the old 4C before. ("60-70k for a >250hp sports car? No way, I'll get a 400hp+ Corvette / BMW M / whatever for that money!")
      People have to understand a CFRP body shell for a low volume car - which has to be hand assembled and baked in an autoclave - always commands a substantial premium over a conventional car that can be stamped out and welded together by dozens of robots in a few minutes.

I believe there about 10-20 cars in the UK with a few coming through each month. I think they are struggling to increase production speed and they have an 18-month order book so itsmany explain why they don't feel the need to market the car but it does feel like a wasted opportunity to develop the brand. Agreed. I love the looks of the mc20 (in the right spec). Ive been thinking the same, like it was the forgot supercar due to covid. Then i thought it was maybe because its so quite, and thats all reviewers would harp on about, even though tuners have proved it makes a good noise what all the eu reg shit has been taken off.

    The reviews out seem to really like the car. dependability issues aside, not too worried about if it'll be good...Think the bigger problem is the super slow release. I know a few cars are being delivered now and that most future MC20s are already spoken for, but since Maserati waited so long to deliver it, I can see customers backing out of their orders for newer cars like the 296 as they are being delivered around the same time.

    No disrespect, but I don't think that people who buy the sort of car as the MC20 care about the opinions of youtube car reviewers. Same goes for any Ferrari, Lambo, Mclaren, Porsche, etc. People who buy them don't watch youtube car reviews, or probably don't know or care that such a thing exists. It's just that other brands can afford the sort of marketing that reaches everyone, even those who aren't potential customers. That's good for publicity, but does almost nothing for sales. Nobody's ever bought a supercar based on someone's review or opinion. It just doesn't happen, anyone who thinks otherwise is just lying to themselves.
    Maserati just know that, and know they don't have to pay a bunch of people money to film reviews that will be watched, in 99,999% cases, by people who'd never be able to buy it, because that would literally be like throwing money away. Especially considering they probably don't have money to throw around after developing a new car and starting production, which is going well too, 600 cars sold so far, they're building 6 a day on average, and selling them before the leave a factory. This is exactly how I'd expect Maserati to launch a supercar now, in silence, and let the car speak for itself over time, instead of having every channel on youtube post a video about it immediately. I'd rather see them focus on production than marketing, having a great product is the most important thing in order to be successful in long terms, far more so than some sort of short-lived hype on social media.

    The thing with the MC20 is that it was never meant to be a Maserati to begin with - it was planned as the Alfa 6C (take a look at the cockpit and you can see), but after Marchionne’s untimely passing they decided to badge-engineer it as a Maserati, which I personally think is a mistake, but anyway…

    • @mada3565
      @mada3565 2 роки тому +1

      This is a fact that many seem to overlook and not mention! The MC20 is a rebadged Alfa 6C - and was rebadged with a few cosmetic tweaks at thr closing stages of its release to give it some Maserati styling notes! Also, the "Nettuno" engine, which keeps getting mentioned as Maseratis all new in house engine, is a tweaked Ferrari/Alfa Twin Turbo V6 found in the Giulia/Stelvio QVs! The same with the Ghibli's 2.0 Petrol Turbo Hybrid - it is the same engine originally Alfa in the Giulia and Stelvios with a hybrid bolt on (another project engine that was destined for the MY20 Giulias but instead given to Maserati) the whole thing actually annoys me how it has gone about....

    Hmm! At 6:17 you suggest that there are no reviews if the MC20, prior to Xmas Eve. Funny, I found at least 15 European and Aussie reviews...and there are several for sale 2nd hand in France.
    The reason for this is linked to your own language choices. Should you happen to watch road tests in Italian, French and German you would find this easier.
    The MC20 is a very interesting car. It looks the part without resorting to a willy waving big engine, but is however at willy waving pricing. Personally I would opt for a Dallara.

      You know the difference between you and a person who will buy the MC20? They'll buy the MC20 and you won't. Therefore your opinion, or anyone's here, or an opinion of any self-proclaimed car reviewer on youtube, is irrelevant to Maserati. Their sales of the MC20 are going well, and if the car proves to be great, it will be a success regardless of the views they get on youtube.
