    Hello ! Please help me, I have a 50 1.4 and a fungus under the front lens, can I remove it without disassembling the lens? There are 2 holes on the front of the plastic plug, if I unscrew it, can I take out only the front lens? Thank you !

      I wouldn't recommend it: the force you have to use might damage the lens inside. It is safer to disassemble the lens like in this video, and then clean the front lens.

    Thank you! Fixed my 50 by following this. It had a stuck focus. I mean really jammed at the far end. It had small but pretty "sharp" bends at the end of the metal sleeve grooves which I carefully hammered straight against a countertop. That did the trick at least for now.

    Hi thank you for your informative lens repair.
    Would you at some time take apart a Canon EF 50mm f3.5 compact macro lens, mine has a problem with the infinity mark not aligned, as if it had been pushed over to far. It is a slight problem only needed to be correct when doing depth of field checks. Thanks in advance 👍

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  3 роки тому +1

      So the inner part which goes back and forth when focusing, goes further then the marks on the lens?

    • @petervanorsouw2858
      @petervanorsouw2858 3 роки тому

      @@CamerasLensesEtc yes just past the mark. Just a small annoyance. When I switch the camera on and the lens is at infinity with auto focus it is jammed. So to free the focus I switch it to manual focus and move focus and that frees the jammed focus ring. Those that help?

    Good video, my focus now working manually but new fault is aperture gets stuck. This causes camera communication error. Tried strip down again and set aperture to f1.4 as soon as rebuilt and attached to camera it stuck on next picture

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  4 роки тому

      Check the cable with a multimeter, maybe it was damaged, also clean the end of the cable other idea: check if you can close and open the aperture manually, and it is running smoothly.
      If that doesn't solve the problem, then you have to replace the aperture, or open up to f/1.4, and disconnect the cable, and use the lens at f/1.4 only.

      @@RONIGLAHNYou might try to unscrew the front lens element using a lens removal tool. (I haven't tried it, but as I see, there is two small cutouts on the front lens unit, so seems that you could unscrew it). I would recommend to disassemble the lens for that, and hold the front lens element. If you would do that with the lens assembled, it could damage the it.

      You can try to remove the bayonet mount, then you have access to the ring which needs to be undone. If the ring is stuck, then I would recommend to disassemble the lens try that way, because you can damage the sliders if you use too much force.

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  3 роки тому +1

      There are three lens elements on the rear of the lens: one in the ring which you remove (the last one), then there is one which is loose inside (it falls out), then there is one under that. As I remember, none of them is two lens elements glued together, so you can clean the surface of them. The important thing is to remember which way the middle lens element was in the hole, and you should put it back the same way.

      Hello! Currently I don't have video for Canon 50/1.8 II lens. Here is a brief explanation how to disassemble it: first remove the two screws from the rear electronic connector, then remove the panel of the AF/MF switch which is glued to the lens with two sided adhesive tape. Under that there is a screw which holds a metal pin, remove those. After that the inner part of the lens slides out. The lens consists of two parts which holds the manual focusing ring. On the opposite sides of the lens there are one-one small plastic wedges, which you have to lift up, then remove, then the lens can be separated into two pieces, and you have access to the manual focusing ring.

    I've been searching a lot but can't find a solution to my problem. Maybe you're so kind to help me with some info. I bought a second hand canon 50mm 1.4 about two years ago, and since then i had a lot of problems with the focusing system. In one hand, the focusing ring is not smooth at all (i know this happens to many users), but in the other hand, the autofocus misses the focus point too many times. It doesn't seem to be a front or back focus problem. It just misses the focus. Many times in low light, of course, but also in well lit situations. I like to use this lens at f1.8, so it is very noticeable when it happens. I thought about buying a different 50mm lens, but good ones are very big, heavy and expensive compared to the canon 1.4 lens, and many reviews claim that the autofocus in this canon lens may be even more accurate than the sigma art 50mm 1.4 autofocus, for example. So, do you think it is just that my lens is old? Do you think it is something that can be repaired by a professional to be ok again? Do you think the cost of this repair is worth it? Thank you in advance for your advice, and thank you for sharing all that knowledge in your videos

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  5 років тому +1

      Hello! If the focus is not smooth, then I would advise you to disassemble the lens, and check what is causing the problem. I have this lens in my personal photobag, and I experienced this focusing problem: sometimes the lens (camera) can't find the focus, and this happens mostly in tricky lighting situation (backlit, shooting towards the sun...). When the focusing happens, the lens is in f/1.4, and if you use for example f/1.8, then the lens will be stopped to this aperture right before the picture is taken. I haven't used the Sigma 50/1.4 ART lens, but the reviews are very positive about it.
      So, here are my solutions: 1) disassemble the lens, check what is causing the not-smooth focusing, and try to repair that. Maybe this is the cause of the focusing problems. (you can do the repair for free) 2) Borrow / buy an another 50/1.4 lens, and compare it to yours. If an another Canon 50/1.4 performs better, then you wil know that something is wrong with your lens. Other option (in the same price category) would be the Sigma 50/1.4 lens (not the ART version). If you use APS-C camera, then the Sigma 30/1.4 would be an another option, or if the f/1.4 aperture is not that important, then the 50/1.8 STM lens, or the 85/1.8 USM lens would work for you.

    • @aaronalbores3999
      @aaronalbores3999 5 років тому

      @@CamerasLensesEtc Thank you very much! Maybe i'll do it, but I'm a little bit hesitant to do the repair myself, i fear that i may do more damage than good to the lens, and even when it clearly has a problem, it stills serves me a lot. I'll try to find another unit of this lens to compare it to mine, and also try other 50mm lenses. The 50mm 1.8 stm from canon i already had it (twice, the first was stolen). Great for the price, but still a lower step in quality than my 50mm 1.4. Again, thanks a lot :)
