There is no doubt this is more dangerous than the average tool, I think if I was to make it again I would I would attach both ends of the chain to the body therefore if one of the chains broke it would probably be still attached to the tool.
If anybody does make buy or make one I would recommend wearing the same safety clothing you would wear when operating a chainsaw, and I say “buy” because you can get something similar off amazon

There used to be a commercially made cutter like this in the 1980's or 1990's called the weed wizard but it used chainsaw chain. It was hard on the weed eater and wasn't good near walis or stone but worked great on tough weed and brush.

Why not use regular chain links?there are heads like that made in my country by locals,they work very good.Small gauge chain lasts long and its resistant if you hit a rock with it.

To save gasoline, you could also try viciously beating the weeds with a wiffle ball bat. It would cut just about as effectively as that big, fat, dull chain slapping the weeds to death.

Why did you go to the trouble of cutting out 3 cleats to attach the chain? Just make a circle from the steel plate and drill 3 holes near the outside edge at 120 deg apart this will be better balanced too. 🙂

It might be useful on thick hard bramble bases and the like
Fair play to him for trying and a good enough job but I don’t think it’s worth the bother especially when it’s more dangerous than what’s available
idk that was pretty thick grass but it doesn't matter one thing is for sure tho that this chain ones would last alot longer lol

I have seen before someone made some from chainsaw chains but I’m certain using line and blades appropriately is a far better solution than this idea
I have done a lot of s trimming in my time and I have a powerful machine maybe the one he is using is not as powerful as mine so it may be impressive for its size idk
