His technique is not traditional as to how your taught in school if that is how you learned. I learned hands on behind the hood in the field as a kid decades ago. Yes a lot of start and stops more or less spot welding but as far as I see the welds are clean and he is preventing blow through/over heating the metal by the technique he is using. A welder is the person not the machine so he is adapting to how it is already set up and to what he is working on from the way I see it. Difference between a shop welder and a field welder

A little fine tuning and you got yourself a handy product there! 👍 As a prototype it is well built. By your technical application and the tricks you applied I would assume you were/are a pipe fitter? And/or learned from one. Not traditional shop work for the most part from what I see but overall excellent build with real world application. Some may think this is pointless and a waste of time and resources but I could really benefit from this little build! Thank you sir for your time and for sharing this little gem of an idea!
I'll give you an A for the idea. The welding...you should practice more. When a welder is set up correctly, you don't need to spot in a weld. You also should not need to clean up welds. Great idea though!

I would have angled that discharge a bit further out so you won't get you arm chewed up as bad.
