It matches the book, to show the idea that Jurassic Park is never going to work and that there are literally compys escaping to the mainland in boats and they don't even notice. They even killed and ate a baby's face. The scene in the second movie matches the premise of the second movie.
He tried to make Hammond a better person. Better person wouldn't still open the Park ignoring incidents such as this. Also I really glad he get rid of newborn devouring scene. We really don't need that.

@@nolanueno1060 Yeah I did as well but then I thought if it was Tina, How did the Compsognathus drag her up in the vines of the trees and just starting killing and eating her? So then I thought that the Compsognathus climbed up the trees and found a sloth and killed it.
So a chicken sized dinosaur that probably mostly ate insects is a threat? Ok... That was probably just the illustration being exaggerated. The writing doesn’t indicate she was killed, just bitten.
This scene from early in the novel would be recycled for the opening of "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" (1997).
They even kept the same last names the same!
